Hi there,

Progress report..........

6am - breakfast and medicine served, litter trays used and NOT ONE accident anywhere. don't know if I want to shout yippee (or more to the point I don't know if I dare!)......AND........poo is definately thicker and not runny and slimey. Perhaps there is lots of help coming from the bridge and our other babies?? I do hope so.

I will email some pictures to cheesecat when I get home from work tonight and she is a darling and going to put them up for me.

Will let you have more progress report tonight.

Hi all,

medicine going down ok, poo has mainly been in the tray (only twice all over bed, and I think it is Coco) this morning she was paddling about in the trays (now 3 in there!) and Simba shoved her out and did a poo as if to say LOOK this is how you do it

but fell on deaf ears, never mind we will get there hopefully. His eyes are dare I say it...good today, hers not so good, all gued up. both very bloated tummy and still coughing. We are just giving lots of love, grooming and fussing and telling them how loved they are

it's all we can do, keep them clean and medicated and fed and live with our fingers crossed

this is the 3rd full day of medication and Rome wasn't built in a day was it? Vets are phoning us tomorrow for an update. That's all I can tell you at the moment. Just taking one day at a time.

As usual, grateful to you all for your support and kind words, can't tell you how much it has helped.

Royal Canin Intestinal. Looks a bit like broken bits of choccie!

I had to really persuade Simba to eat his breakfast this morning (he knows it has medicine in)

still coughing...but we live in hope.

No, I think you mis understood me. My vets did not say that the other 2 cats had FIP, they had coronavirus and had been treat successfully.

Yes its the killer but much rarer then people think, and for the cats to have been ill this long is very unlikely. Same as saying about the other 2 cats they said had it but they have treated. There is no treatment so the other 2 cats couldnt have had it.
I just feel sorry for people who get so worried and stressed that their cats have it, all for no reason.

Hi folks,

the more I read, the more confused I get. Our vet has spoken to DD's vet today and they are both in agreement. The medication they are now on is the best way forward. DD is right and they only saw him once because it was more advisory (due to him not actually seeing them much!) poor fella. Their poo tests were also tested for Trichomonas?? and came back negative.

I feel very overwhelmed at all of this, and poor John is beside himself with worry (about all of us, when I'm upset I can't sleep, not good for somebody recovering from a stroke!!

)

We are so very grateful to DD for advice and reassurance, to Dawn & Phil, for fostering them, and so very very grateful that we have been given the chance with these 2. I can say no more than I have already said really, in that we will do our very best ever to get these 2 babies back on track. We are grateful to you all for your support. We will of course keep you up dated and thanks for the healing vibes...please keep sending them.

Our love and gratitude to you all. Don't know what else to say really, we are staying very positive.

i am hoping this is just the corona virus they have come into contact with, and that their immune systems can fight it off. I suppose there is a chance they are carriers and it could flare up in stressful times, fingers crossed the meds help them a lot.

My vet was also very quick to mention FIP with both Zeta and Gwynnie - she nearly always gives the worst case scenario - scares me half to death most of the time!

Persistently infected, healthy cats play the most important epidemiologic role in FIP, because by harbouring FcoVs in their intestines and blood, they act as a constant source of infection. Today, the amount and frequency of FCoV shed in feces can readily be quantitated by real-time PCR [7]. The shedding pattern of FCoV in cattery cats is a continuum: while few cats hardly every shed, the majority of cats shed low to intermediate amounts and few individual cats have very large amounts of FCoV in their feces. The difference of concentration between low and very high shedders may be as high as a factor of 1 million. Generally, young kittens shed the highest amounts while older cats shed significantly lower concentrations of FCoV. If one or more "high shedders" are living in a group of cats, the air, food containers and especially litter boxes will be heavily contaminated with FCoV. As transmission is via the fecal-oral route, it becomes clear that the viral load in an individual cat may be affected by the infectious pressure that exists in a group of cats living under crowded conditions.

basically its transmitted by the cats sharing litter boxes and them cleaning their paws and ingesting others faeces / virus.

Dawn - If your cats have had no contact whatsoever with these cats or their litter boxes then I wouldn't worry. Yes, have a general gut out and bleach down in their room (Vikron is good or Domestos). do the rest of of the house if it will make you feel more comfortable. Bleach the litter boxes, bedding and bowls. (I say bowls but Litter boxes are the worst culprit although if these cats have been extremely messy as I know some of them can be and it ends up on the food bowls!)

From what you have said it is highly unlikely for any cross contamination. (IMHO)

Yes, sodium hypochlorite (sp?) bleach (like Milton) is best one to use around cats.

Your right DD is doesn't last long in the open air, it's all coming back to me, the things my vet said. He said the sameas your Shaun.

Can anyone also advise me what I can do to make sure my babes are not at risk - they are not allowed in the foster room and did not meet the siamese, but Doc managed to get in there the other night - bowls, trays etc will be thoroughly disinfected - I must admit I don't really know much about FIP
