Re: Found New Home for Buttons - Didn't work out, bringing her back!!!!

:( Its been 5 weeks and unfortunately I got a call yesterday telling me that Buttons and the other cat Sootie are not getting on!! So I am picking her back up tomorrow and bringing her back to my mum's old house where my brother still lives.

Its such a shame, the people said she is a wonderful affectionate cat but has been bullying Sootie - who apparently seems very timid and so basically from day one Buttons has taken to her new home fantastically but doesn't let Sootie move about the house ... she hasn't eased up on him for the 5 weeks and they don't want Sootie to be affected like he is.  At least they did call me and let me have her back and didn't just give her away - I would have been beside myself if they had.

I'm on the hunt for a new home again - I still have the information I gathered last time so will be calling around rescues etc next week as I'm asking around family again first.  And I'm going to get some of that Petal Cleanse you have recommended to see if it helps whilst staying with my brother and hopefully he'll be less allergic to her and so will be able to pet her.

I'll keep you updated :)

Jayne, I'm so sorry to hear about your mum.
I recently also rehomed a cat that we had got very attached to so I know what a wrench it is and especially it being your mums cat and having that added sentiment.
It is great news that she has a lovely new home, her new dad sounds like he'll be a perfect slave  :)
let us know how she is getting on and if you get some pics  ;D
All the best for the new year, Fiona and the boys x

:Luv: Jayne thanks so much for updating us on Buttons and what great news she has found a new forever home.

It certainly sounds like she will be fine with her new Daddy.  You may want to point her new owner towards the following website as there are some really helpful tips on how to introduce new cats to an existing cat.  http://wizz-catz.co.uk/behavioural.html

Hi all

I know what its like when newbies join with a situation like mine (I’m a member of a boxer dog forum) and then never let you know what happens – if you’re like me you always think ….. ‘I wonder what happened to ………….’

Well Buttons has gone to what I think will be a fantastic life changing new home for her.  She’s gone to a family member of a friend of mine (who has 7 dogs herself and I know she is a total animal lover) – her brother already has one male house cat – Sooty and has basically been over the moon when I said OK to him having Buttons – even going out days before to get extra food and toys for her.  He works in the day and basically is a quiet man and so just sits in with his cat of a night.  The first question asked was what her name was and what food she ate and I honestly have no doubt she will be very well looked after – if I did she wouldn’t have gone.  There was a possibility that she could have gone to one of our family members but they offered really because they didn’t want to see her go into a rescue and because of sentimental reasons with her being mums cat but once this offer came up and once you weighed up what was really best for Buttons and not for the humans then I think (I hope) we’ve made the right choice.

It’s been totally heartbreaking letting her go (its quite a distance away which I suppose is a good thing) – I’ve cried my eyes out literally and felt sick to the core of my heart – she’s a beautiful thing – I took her the vets before passing her over for a check up, to get her booster jab and to get microchipped and all she did was purr her pretty little head off – didn’t even flinch with that massive microchip needle.  I’ve requested that she be returned should any problems arise with settling her into her new home with the other cat and I’ve said that I’ll pass all microchip papers etc over to be transferred to the new owner when I know she’s settled in OK.  Hopefully the new owners will keep me informed of her welbeing although I do understand that she has now started a new life but hopefully I'll get the odd photo.

Fingers crossed that everything goes well, I have reports that her first night went well with her and Sooty ‘kissing’ and she seemed quite at ease with sniffing around her surrounding.  A massive thank you for all your help, advice and support I’ve appreciated it greatly and its been very useful.   Hope you all (and your furbabies of course) have a wonderful Christmas and good wishes for the New Year.

Thanks again - Jayne

I too am so sorry to hear about your mum and only know too well the feeling at this time.

As far as I know there is no Cats Protection in Chester, perhaps it would be wise to contact CP HQ, details on their site www.cats.org.uk and they will advise you of the nearest shelter, please be aware that there will be a waiting list. Hopefully in the New Year Liverpool  are opening a Branch, who knows Buttons may be one of the fist on their list of cats waiting to come in, some who post on this forum may have details about that.

The fact that your brother is out at work is not  problem, Buttons will do what most cats do, sleep. Your brother could always leave on a radio or the TV. If we only homed cats to people that did not work then I am afraid rescues would home a lot less cats. In the meantime as Becca suggested your brother may try Patal Cleanse on Buttons www.petremedies.co.uk and eyre drops & Piriton for himself.

Hiya Buttons - thanks for coming in and I'm really sorry to hear about your mum.  :(

I can see from your post that you really care what happens to this little cat - if you or your brother or anyone else truly cannot take her on then the best thing I can think of is to get her onto a good shelter waiting list (Chester cats protection maybe?) and continue attempts to rehome her privately through this site and others. As you've the decency to keep her safe and fed in the meantime, I'm afraid it is not going to be a quick process as pretty much all shelters are constantly taking in cats who are in urgent need of care and protection but sooner or later someone WILL have a place for her.

To cope for now, there's a couple of products your brother could try - as well as standard antihistamines (Piriton etc and plenty of it!) I'm aware of stuff called Petal Cleanse or something which you rub on the cat that makes it a bit less allergen-producing.

If by some miracle the allergies subside - which they sometimes do when someone starts living with a cat - then the best solution to the loneliness concern would be to find the young pusscat a house-cat friend to keep her company.

There is also a charity called the Cinnamon Trust that specialises in taking care of older people's pets, particularly after bereavement. I'd urge you to get in touch with them too and see if they can offer some help.

All the best and please keep us updated on how Buttons gets on.

Found New Home for Buttons (20mth Female)
« Reply #1 on: December 15, 2006, 21:21:55 PM »
Hi All

I hope I'm not breaking any forum rules but I need a little help. My mother recently passed away in November and I need to rehome her cat - Buttons. She's a lovely cat very affectionate and very much a house and lap cat.  Unfortunately I'm unable to take her I already have 2 dogs and a cat myself and could not offer the attention and loving she needs.  It breaks my heart that I have to do this and I've cried alot over this little girl, as you can see I'm an animal lover but it wouldn't be fair on her or my other furbabies.

She is currently still at my mother's house and being looked after (ie being fed etc) by my brother who is still living there but he is not an animal person and is also allergic to her and whilst he is by no means cruel to her he cannot give her the attention she should have.  He is happy for her to be there in the short term but feels its not fair on her too in the long term as he has now gone back to work and so the poor girl is alone alot of the day - like I mentioned she is a house cat and not one for wanting to get out and about and he wouldn't dare leave her out whilst at work.

I live on the Wirral (near Liverpool & Chester way) and have would travel to home her with the right people. I would love to home her with cat people hence the reason I joined this and a few other sites - I'm a member of a boxerdog forum and so I know that forum people only want the very best for their furbabies so I'm trying every possibility to get her a good home.

Can anyone help or provide me with good sources to contact, rescues etc. She is better suited with a family or sole owner but who are at home alot or works part time as she is use to the company.

Can anyone please help, thanks very much for listening :thanks:  The attached pic is of buttons :Luv:
