Fleas on an indoor cat!!

I have an OUTdoor cat and he has never had fleas!

I blame students!

We have started to use Stronghold because it does ear mites and some worms aswell, only problem is that I can only get if from the vets at the moment because its still a prescription item.

You can still get free prescriptions from the vet and then but it on-line

They could easily hop off in the waiting room and find a new host.

I wish I'd had these remedies about 20 years ago, when I tripped over a hedgehog on my way to work and infested me, my two indoor cats and my flat with fleas! Either they weren't available, or I simply didn't know about them.

Prevention is beter than cure even in winter   

Whats the diffrence then bnetween frontline combo and normall ?

QP, its cheaper and just as effective to use normal frontline and a spray that lasts 12 months  you can buy these online and save £££s

Every week I get phone calls about how people are surprised when they find out their indoor cat has fleas. I know we on here have covered this topic many times, so it just goes to show how necessary it is to keep covering the same topic time and time again. As already posted if a cat has fleas it most certainly has tape worm. So it is essential to comb cats daily and inspect the comb contents, then if any blackish specks are seen place the contents of the comb  on a damp tissue and if they turn red then fleas are present. I personally have not seen a flea on any of my cats for as long as I can remember, but I never go on bus's or in crowded places, so I expect that is the reason. I do know our Town hall had a flea infestation earlier this year and when I worked at the Postal Finance HQ on the 5th floor had a cat flea infestation. So they can get anywhere.

I think less likely to be picked up at the vets as the table is disinfected after each client and usually in the surgery there is no place for them to live. If fleas was brought home from the vets it would possibly have come from another clients clothing.

Indoor cats can get fleas (as a few of us on here can testify!!  ).  You can bring them in on yourself, esp if you've been stroking another cat.  Jaffa got fleas last year and he's never been outside in his life (except for vet and cattery visits in his carrier).

a few years ago Misty had weaping sores appear on his temples ?? I took Him to the vet, and the first thing she checked for
were Flea's?? I said he didn't have any !! she then told me that because his glands were weaping, it was most probably an
allergic reaction to Flea's, has He had Flea's Before ?? Yes, but I stay in a second story Flat and I cant see anyway of them getting
up so High?? she did say maybe I took them in, and she also mentioned Birds( I have had starling's nesting in my balcony for
years and on the fine days I would just leave the balcony door open for Hammish and Misty to watch the world go by from
an advantage point
but I think they probably did come attached to the birds although I didnt end up with a full infestation and Hamish showed
no sign's of it iether

Queen Penguin, had she been to the vet's any other time recently?  Bertie caught fleas at the vet's as a kitten ... he'd never been outdoors so it was a real shock to find his little visitors .. we came to the conclusion he caught them when he went for his jabs.

Ah thanks Dawn! I have Frontline Combi for her. Yeah my dad mentioned about the flea/worms thing but I forgot to get worming stuff... I havent been bitten as yet... and she sleeps with me! The little  normally make a bee-line for me!!

Hey Sarah - I didn't believe this at first when it happened to our three either - but I have since found out that fleas can be brought in by us or our guests without us knowing, so even if the cat never goes anywhere they can get them. (ie: we could sit next to someone on a bus whose cat has fleas and can can have them on ourselves all day and not notice and then bring them home)

I used indorex to spray the whole house (all soft furnishings etc) and also used frontline and gave ours a worming tablet too as apparently having fleas can give worms too. You can get all those things from Vet UK - thats where I got mine 

edit - sorry I just remembered you have been to the vet so you will probably already have these things

Menue is an indoor cat, she never goes out and seldom sits in windows now that its cold. So when I went to the vets today, I was surprised that he found fleas    and also that she has a flea allergy, which explains the scabbyness on her tail again. I was gobsmacked and I still am!!

HOW DID THE LITTLE  GET INTO MY FLAT?!
