I went into the local nutritition centre to ask if they knew of any tablets that release oxygen. He said no and asked where I saw it. I said it was an American site and he smirked. He said if I find it again, to tell him the active ingredient and he will find out what it really does. He asked what the problem was and I said George had a bad heart (he said he is not allowed to advise for animals but is giving the advice as if it for me  :sneaky: ) He recommends to strengthen the heart, coenzyme Q10, when I mentioned oxygen absorption again, he said you need to concentrate on lung function. He recommended high quality essential oils. He said a bottle of high quality oil is about £9 and only remains stable for 6 weeks in the fridge. He said the oil helps to build the membrane of the lungs. He said dry food is rubbish as anything dry loses it's goodness. Wet catfood has reduced oil as it's oil that produces fungus and the manufacturers try to avoid this. Also the oil in petfood is low quality. He said he swears by high quality essential oils (amino acids?)

I will try to find the other things again but this man seems to know his stuff.

I also saw some tablets you can buy in America but not sure if you can get them here- I lost the link but will try to find it again. They are specially for cats & dogs. They somehow work with water in the body and release oxygen into the bloodstream. I will try to find it again.

I saw these as well - maybe they would help? http://www.oldmotherhubbard.com/wellness/cat_wellness_supplements_welldefense_dog_cat_formula.html

I found this with the same active ingredient but it doesn't mention oxygen absorbtion http://www.nutrecare.co.uk/latest_detail.asp?prod_id=1848&id=&grpid=1848&msg=&offset=108

I will still try to find the other tablets as they sounded impressive. They were called oxy-cap cat & dog or something but I can't find them now.

Mark, you're an angel thanks, - that looks very much like what we are looking for.  Will investigate further and let you know how we get on.

Sorry to hear about George.

I saw this site that has various size portable items. I also wondered about the oxyshots water, I wondered if the oxgen would be absorbed that way?

Anything to make him more comfortable  :Luv2:

Oh Lesley I'm so sorry to hear about poor George :( He really is a special boy, but at least you get to spend some quality time making a fuss of him and spoiling him rotten. I'm not sure it's the same thing, but I used to have acutely asthmatic ratties, and we had a pet nebuliser for them. I really can't remember where we got it from, though - the vet gave us the info, so maybe yours will be able to advise re: the oxygen. It's so hard when they have something deteriorative, but at least you can make him comfortable and give him lots of love :Luv2: :Luv2:
All the best to you and lovely George-boy, sending lots of love, hugs and furry headbutts from me and mine

OH Lesley my heart goes to you and George.Last year at this time i was told my DD has cancer and the vet told me that she has very little time,

every day i spent with her was precious. Every morning i woke up i had this feeling of being scared because i knew the time will come soon and there is nothing i can do to  make her better, but the last few weeks we had together was so speciall that made it worth while going through it.

The last time he visited DD was christmas eve and gave her the steroid injection and four days later she took turn for worse,

But i made her speciall christmas lunch and we cuddled up on sofa all day together, i had the chance o say goodbuy to her.

I hope you have very speciall time with George, remember he knows how much he is loved by you and you gave him a happy life filled with love.

It is so very painful, even just for me to imagine, to see dear George deteriorate slowly and there is nothing can be done about it. :(  But know that George is a lucky boy to be able to spend his life together with you, and you just as well, I know George has given you so much in return.  Each day together is a gift, is special, so try to live it to the fullest.  I am glad he is with the best parents in the world for him!!

Its so very hard Lesley and I know from my last Christmas with Kocka, which of course I didnt know would be the last. I didnt know about sites like these back then and only found CC about 5 months after she went to the Bridge.

At least you have the knowledge, albeit sad, and can look after George in the best way, Enjoy him , I know you will

Well, the news for George is not too good. :(  Unfortunately, his condition is deteriorating and his heart is not working well at all.  Apparently, the heart is pumping round blood that is not well oxygenated explaining why George is heavy breathing and his bad colour.

Robin, my Vet, was very good and tried to explain in layman terms all the things that are wrong with his heart and why and explained that we could bleed him, which is something the Cardiologist said could be done, but Robin said the improvement would be short lived and the stress could make him worse.

So it has been decided that we will just keep him as comfortable and stress free as possible.  OH asked about giving him oxygen if we could and Robin said this would definitely make him feel better so we are now looking into the viability of getting some sort of oxygen equipment for him.  Any ideas from anyone would be greatly appreciated.
Although he did not specifically say so, I think Robin was quite concerned and intimated that there might not be alot of time left with George.  I have always known he was living on borrowed time but, deep down, you always think they will defy science and pull through.  Robin also explained that medically there is nothing the Vets can do for him so unless he really takes a turn for the worse there is no point in stressing him out every time he looks a bit down - Robin was even loathe to do much examination of him yesterday as he said the less stress the better.

We have decided that this Christmas will be a quiet affair at home, as I am sure it will be the last one for George and we want to be with him as much as possible.  The other cats are great and spend alot of time just sitting with him and almost comforting him - they know he is not like them.

I was talking to Robin about lili29's cat in France and how they were seeing a Cardiologist in Paris who make undertake surgery and he said he thinks it was the same one he met just this last weekend.  However, we both know George is past that stage now  :'(

George has always been on borrowed time, having come to me as a feral kitten aged 8 weeks with coxpox virus, and then being diagnosed with Tetralogy of Fallot at his first vaccination, but he is a VERY VERY special boy and I will do the best I can for him with the time he has left. :'( :'(.  In some respects, it's worse knowing they haven't got long left than it is losing them suddenly, like Gizmo, but at least I can make the most of the time I do have with George.

George, my precious boy who has Tetralogy of Fallot is not doing well at the moment.  Has lost some weight and his tongue has gone really purple in colour so he is off to the Vet tonight.  He wouldn't take any of his medication this morning and he has been sick over recent days, one of them was foul in colour, really blood red.

I know he is living on borrowed time, but he is so special, - please send us some good vibes for his appointment tonight.
