He has been checked to see if he is 'equipt' enough for the op & he is !!!!

He has doubled in weight since he 1st went to the vet & he still has some of his baby teeth which suprised me as he is constantly chewing anything metal he can get hold of  :wow: This includes the washing airer.. the end of spoons... & the other day i caught him with the nail clippers which I had been looking for for days !.. he runs away & hides stuff !

So he is boked in for Fri 7th Dec... & he cannot eat from 6pm the previous evening !

Personally, I dont have mine done on Fri's if I can help it, just in case they do something to their stitches (I generally hvae females), and need to go back to get it sorted. My vets dont allow food after 8, and if i have to use the rescue's vet, they are dropped off the night before.
Please spay your cat

Something tells me somehow not to hold a high hope about Oliver slowing down and become calmer after the dirty deed has been done...

We are nocturnal people and often stay up to some ungodly hours, but I had to stop playing with him at late hours because when he stomps around and leaps up in the air and land, he rattles the whole building!! (so much for the feline lightfootedness...) :evillaugh:

Mosi may not be that big (although he's big enough!) but it certainly sounds like a herd of elephants sometimes and he's showing no sign of slowing down.  He pulled the shower curtain off the rail this morning (ripped it) - he thought he'd try to climb it  >:(

Well it didn't calm Mosi down  ;D  He acted like nothing had happened and is still a complete nutter at nearly 2.  But at least it took testosterone out of the equation  ;D

Im going to try & get Leo in on a Fri morning so I can be with him the whole weekend..

I have to take him today to check he is developed enough to get it done.. Im sure once they see the size of him now (in genrall!!!) that they wont have a problem..

Will it calm him down a bit do you think ? He is a nutter at the moment !!!!

We had Mellika spayed when we had a weeks holiday so that we could be there to keep an eye on her, she was a real cuddle pot and I think she appreciated the company.

Definately ask for the internal stitches and glue, so much easier and no buster collar to contend with.

If your vets are open to suggestion ask for glue  ;)
They cope amazingly well afterwards so i would choose whatever option puts your mind at ease  ;D

Xanthe is due for her op soon too  - do you wise people out there think it would be better done over Christmas hols as I can be around during the day while she recovers, or would she be better on a friday so she has company for the weekend then left to her own devices while I'm at work? I wonder  if she would be calmer in an empty house for a few hours each day? I work in a school, so not a long day, but also means I can't take time off other than school hols.

Any advice gratefully received!

No food after ""supper time"" I'd make sure food was taken away by around 10pm (of course i always use to say abit earlier than that like your own tea time as ela said in hope it was then taken away before bedtime)

Remember and leave out water though overnight and take it away in the morning.

Our vets says no food after 6p.m. possibly in the hope that people will not give any after 8p.m. Also like Michells vet the little ones can usually be picked up 3 ish. It just depends on what time they had their op and how well they are coming out of the anaesthetic

I am sure Leo will be fine and my vet used to say no food after 2000 too although with Kocka it was later cos she didnt eat much.

Ummmm Lisa do you think you could email me some full sized pictures of Leo, head , full body shots, preferably not too difficult posees though, sitting , lying would be nice but will all tail and ears please

My teach hopefully is about to show me how to paint cats and I thought Leo may be just what I need LOL.....I wanted long flowing fur and no tabby patterns at moment and not sure my cats are suitable for first attempt cos there is farrrrrr too much white.

Sorry for hijacking the thread  ;D

Now that sore bum was brought up I would like to jump to the opportunity and stick in another question... I clearly remembered the op got Hobbes constipated for 3 and half days.  I was so worried he might blow as he didn't lose a tiny drop of appetite meanwhile, and he didn't eat nearly as much as Oliver.  Is this a normal thing for them to have a constipation for some days?  Is there any special diet like to ease the situation?

If he's anything like Mosi, he'll be fine!  Young Mose had the time of his life - flirted with all the staff and got loads of attention, then came home, bounced out of his carrier like nothing had happend and got a special tea and lots of cuddles from his meowmy (and some hissing from Jaffa  ;D ).  Granted, he probably wasn't too happy about being put to sleep and waking up with a sore bum, but he didn't seem to mind too much!

Thanks everyone, just as I thought... 24 hours seemed to me quite exaggerated!!  I just needed to make sure.  There are several other vets not too far from our house, so I shall ask around.  Ooooh, Ollie is so peacefully taking his afternoon nap on a chair right next to me... he wouldn't be very chuffed if he realises what we are scheming about!!

I think 24hrs is far too long without food, especially for a growing (rapidly  :evillaugh: ) kitten. Whatever the vet stuff says, I always feed them right up til my bedtime. I think 3pm is also quite late in the day - poor kitties.  :ahh:

I was really shocked too, I remembered when I took Hobbes in he had to skip the dinner the night before and his brekky the morning, and he went in in the morning.  This surgery opens at 15, which means he can't eat after his lunch the day before!!  I thought I may have mistaken as I am not exactly perfect with the Italian language, but Cristiano confirmed what I thought I heard.
I am thinking about checking around with other vets... we went to this one because it was the closest from our flat, but frankly I didn't really care for this vet he didn't seem at all like a cat person and he had a very inpersonal approach with Oliver, he didn't even seem to know how to hold him still while giving him a jab and asked BOTH of us to help holding him down.  (in the end though, Ollie was very good, he didn't make any scene albeit being very nervous and tight.)  I will have a talk about it with a friend nearby with a plenty of experience with cats just to make sure!

I would try and check out the other vets first.  The last thing you need is him being traumatised when he goes in for the chop and it doesn't sound like they know what they are doing.  I hope you manage to find another who will be gentle with you babe, xxx

Bless his heart - I hope he hasnt seen this post or you will be forever known as "bad Mummy"

Raffiki was "done" at 5 months and he couldnt eat after 8pm the night before.  It definately hasnt quietened him down though, its like a Bengly tornado when him and Mellika get going but I wouldnt have them any other way.

Sounds like it's time!  I've always had mine done at 5 months old.  Mosi was definitely ready by then.

I've never been asked to starve them for 24 hours.  12 hours is usually sufficient so they just have to miss breakfast on the day.

my two had there last meal a 6pm the night before and where dropped of at the vets at 9.30am so they didn't really go 24 hours without food as I fed them on returning from vets at 3pm

that he needs to be off his food for 24 hours prior to the visit,

Why does he need 24 hours bless him   OMG, I hate starving mine just the night before  :sneaky:

Poor little Leo, it does sound likes he's getting ready for the chop, I would give him a a couple more weeks and then get him in,

Now it is also Oliver's turn too, whenever Cristiano can take some time off to wheel him out to the vet...  The most scary thing is that he needs to be off his food for 24 hours prior to the visit, I don't know how he can cope with that!!

Leo is getting more & more vocal as time goes on.. He doesnt seem as settled as he did & is constantly on the go.. he is also sitting by the front door & crying ??? (he has never been out there so he doesnt know whats beyond the door!)  He has now taken to running from the Living room... through the hall & jumps as high as he can get to the latch on the front door ! I couldnt believe it when I 1st saw him do this ??

He is trying to get out ! ... do you think its time for him to be neautured ? He is just over 5 months..
