I have 9 registered with Petlog and 2 with Back Home !
I was really upset about this at first as i wanted then all with the same company but it doesnt make any difference really as a chip is a chip xxxx

Thanks Ela, that's set my mind at rest.  I probably sound really stupid but I didn't know that there was a register other than Petlog!  It just threw me a little bit as Bella was chipped by the same vet and it was a Petlog one.  Another question Ela - do you know whether Identichip have something similar to Petlog Premium where you can upgrade and change address details for free?

Years ago there were a number of chip companies and the chips could only be read by that companies reader. Nowadays chip readers thankfully are universal.

We use  idENTICHIP. The different companies have different numbers. Usually if they start with 826 a vet or rescue will contact Per Log. Otherwise they will possibly ring idENTICHIP. But whichever company you ring knows by the number who you do need to ring. Sorry if that does not make sense , I know what I mean.

hope that's not the way it works, or Shadow's microchip is redundant, having been installed in Oz. I rather assumed that the chip number would tell them which register to look on, a unique identifying code for the register, as well as for the cat.

Thanks Desley ... so if he was found and scanned, would all vets/ rescue centres etc have access to all registers?  Sorry if I'm being dim .. I'm just worried that they might only ring the Petlog register and there wouldn't be any details for Bertie on it.

I think that means they are with 2 different companies, so I wouldn't advise using the Petlog tags on him, but Identichip might do them - think mine are with two different companies, as they were done at different places.

I had Bertie microchipped yesterday - I feel awful for not getting him done as a kitten, but money was tight and it's only in more recent times that I've really started to understand the value of microchipping.  Bella and Minnie are both chipped already and are both on the Petlog register - but the forms I filled in for Bertie at the vet's yesterday are for a company called Identichip.  I'm a bit confused now - does this mean that Bertie is on a different register to Bella and Minnie?  I upgraded Bella and Minnie to Petlog Premium earlier in the year and received those "I'm chipped, please scan me" collar tags with a phone number on them ... I was going to put one on Bertie's collar but would anyone calling that number not be able to access Bertie's details?  (Does this make sense?!)
