So glad Nikki's results are negative ... like I said earlier we don't and probably never will know the circumstances of how she ended up on your doorstep .... you shouldn't automatically assume she has been dumped out of malice or neglect.

It's always heartbreaking with these things happen and maddening!!!

Like many of you I never understand why people get a long haired cat if they don't know how to look after it or are just not willing to spend the time grooming them every day!

I really feel for this little one... especially at such an old age. This is the time of her life when she should be getting pampered and enjoying life... not suffering and in pain. grrrr

As you say tho... on the upside at least they left her where she would be found by someone responsible and get the treatment that she needs. Big relief to hear that the test results are negative.. great news. Lets just hope that her ordeal doesn't prove too much for the little one.

It is disgusting that they let her get in to that condition and to dump her when she is getting on in her years. How evil can these

be.

At least one saving grace she was dumped on your doorstep in a box, not on the highway on her own to freeze to death or get killed.

The poor poor baby. At least now she will have the best care and will find a loving home. Remember FooFoo? - the state she was in? (DD will, I still smile at her in her baby cardigan). Look at her now.

Ela, if she's placid, could they just gently cut some of the fur away with scissors? or are they thinking they'll need to sedate her and shave? With fur as matted as that its likely its falling away from the skin anyway and they would be able to see where mats meet skin, so with careful snipping its possible, although takes longer.

This makes me so angry,like everyone else has said, I've seen some bad ones in my time, admittedly the worst one was owned by someone who'd had a mental breakdown and just couldnt cope with anything anymore, never mind a longhaired cat's coat. But, the ones with no excuse......well, I just bite my tongque and get on with the work in hand. Some are ashamed, many are in denial and still expect you to believe that they comb the cat everyday!

Bit more info, Nikki is going on strong antibiotics as she has a slight infection. but all the bloods did not show really bad problems, but is is very wet on the back end and under that fur is just skin and bone, apparently now they don't really want to put her stress her too much so a vet nurse is spending much time with her trying to gently comb out what they can, but as a last resort if not successful they will need to shave her later today

and that's exactly my point - I've only done one weeks work experience at the vets and saw 9 that week for dematting/shaving I dread to think how many Lynn and Amanda must have seen

Poor little kitty. Hope she recovers well. I love persians, but wouldn't get one because I don't think I would cope with the grooming.

I always remember one I took in and called him Mr T he was huge, unneutered and absolutely stank, we had nowhere to put him so placed him in the bathroom for the night, by the time Monday came the stench had reached the whole house. The fur on his neck and face was so matted that one eye was pulled much lower than the other.

it really makes me sad how persians seem to end up like this, I am probably misinformed but of all the pedigrees they seem to suffer most - why get a long haired cat that you can't/won't brush - my friend took on one from her sister in law a few months back - oh he hates being brushed so is sent in a couple of times a year to be shaved - she is now brushing him daily so it seems that effort was all that was required in this case, not always the way I know

Well I usually use sleeves of woolly jumpers. with a few holes cut out. Not very trendy I know. Although the vet thinks they will have to completly shave her, you never know they may be able to save some fur if it is not attached solid to the body. I will let you know.

Apparently late last night the vet phoned and said that all tests have proved negative and that she (we now know the sex) is just very run down and needs building up. Today she will be completely shaved and then they may be able to tell if she is a full Persian, at the moment it is not easy to tell.

Ahhh poor baby ... of course we don't know the circumstances .... he/she may be a stray that has been rescued by a well meaning person and at least they left kitty somewhere they knew it could be helped.

Keeping everything crossed that this little soul will be OK and needs nothing more tht a bit of TLC and a shave!

This afternoon one of our fosterers went upstairs for about 5 mins, when she came down she noticed her dogs were making a noise by the front door, she opened it to investigate and saw a box., on opening it she saw a cat in a terrible condition, it is very matted and stunk to high heaven and its poor bum was a mess. She immediately took it to the vets, apparently it is elderly and has very few teeth. Every blood test that can be done has been and if tomorrow all is well the vets need to completely shave him/her. Isn't it a shame to think that someone can just leave the little one in a box? Then again at least now it will receive all the help it needs.
