I have a Maine Coon called Billy, don't tell the others but he's my best boy  :Luv2:  :Luv2:  :Luv2:  I am in love with all my babes but Billy is something else, it's like he understands every word you say to him  :Luv2:

I know what you mean when you say he seems to understand every word you say to your cat, because Sophia is exactly the same.

Here is a pic of her but this is when she was younger than she is now , I am going to have to get an upto date picture.

:Luv: I love the sneering pic! Soo cute! Riley pulls those too - he's so tolerant of us foolish humans
I know what you mean, Sheryl - Riley howls and calls for Skye if she won't come play with him! Poor, besotted boy that he is

I am a fan of the lovely George Clooney but the phrase "Drop Dead Gorgeous" was of course 1st coined for the stunningly gorgeous Billy. That boy is just The Man!

No prizes for recalling that my beautiful Aslan RIP looked a smidgeon like Billy although no pedigree. He too was a fetcher and carrier and unfortunatley a wanderer too

Quite a few pedigree breeds are are trillers and chirruppers!  Somalis are known for their chirrups and trills.  I don't think I've ever heard Mosi give a normal miaow - it's all chirrups with the odd WAAAHHH! for good measure.

Oliver has a loud meow to let everyone know when he is about to use his tray, and a chatty one when he can't find his sister Portia or he wants her to join him.  He mrrrrs to us.  Portia has the smallest meow I have ever heard but when she did it today (I was putting out their food) and I wasn't quick enough for her, she came over and tapped my leg.

Nosiy cats - my 2 Bengals make the strangest noises I have ever heard and if they are in separate room they actually call for each other and it goes on and on until one of them goes and finds the other.

I agree completely! Riley trills and urrps to inform me it's breakfast-time, or to ask to get under the duvet in the morning when it's cold!
Does Rosie ever go "mrrraa-aap-aap-urrr?" (the only way I can describe it!) Riley did this a lot when he was younger (less so now) - it seemed to be a contact-call, like asking "where are you?" when he'd lost sight of me! I don't warrant this anymore - only Skye gets it now!

She certainly does!! She also loke to have a chat when you are in the bath and also calls for you if she can't find you!

She may be a tortie, but she has the Siamese features!

Binky said that too! He was Siamese and a great yowler. He played fetch as well. I know that 3am shriek as well, rosiesmum!

Dolcetta - we have to be so careful now, Xanthe has fallen into one bath that was only tepid but now it is colder the baths are hotter and we don't want to scald her. Oliver is a cheeky one - at least you can wash the tub out fast!

Rosie's Mum was Siamese, she has a wonderful array of shrilling, trilling, chirruping and meowing! Not so good at 3am in the morning though!  :(

Oh!! Well done Xanthe, atta girl!!

Lucy you got a bathtub cat, too I see?  Oliver is so attracted to it somehow, these days he picked up a not very pleasant habit of taking a bathtub tour directly after he went to the loo, leaving the sand all over the tub... it is gross so I tried to discourage him but nothing deters him!!  One of these days he WILL get a real full bath if he keeps it up!!

Really? I didn't know that it was unusual for cats to trill - if they do have a touch of oriental, it would explain Riley's wondersful cheekbones! I wish I had such good bone-structure! I love the idea of playing fetch - that's soo adorable!
BTW, Xante is sooo cute!  :Luv:

I beat Lisa to it with Xanthe!

She does the trilling chirruping thing, and has a funny squeaky little voice. She can shout when she wants to though! So where are the pics of Sophia?

;D Neither of my cats are Maine Coons, but they are both "talkers", if I didn't know better, I would think they had some oriental in them. Both Riley and Skye trill, urrp (sounds like a question, a kitty "huh?"), howl, mau, cry, warble, gurgle, twitter, shnuffle, Brrruppp and chuff-chuff, depending on what they are doing, what is going on, how they feel, or what they want!

It sounds as though they might have some oriental in them as not many cats can trill... but not only that though, Sophia will pick up a paperball in her mouth and run downstaires, you can even play fetch with her lol

Sophia is my first Maine Coon. I love her to bits, but does anyone else have a Maine Coon kitty?

I cant believe how they have many different purrs. meows and trills to what they are doing and what they are wanting, have any of you noticed this?

like when she is climbing upstaires she trills very loud and when she see's a fly her meow turns into like an Eeek sound?
