my dad is always giving them a plate to lick (sorry hygienic people  )

Max has been known to lick the plates before as well ...... as long as they're washed up properly, don't see a problem  ;)

I hate scrounging cats, my dad is always giving them a plate to lick (sorry hygienic people  )
I make him save any scraps for the next meal they have, it also helps me keep check on what they are getting so theres no expanding waistlines  :sneaky:

The minute we sit down to eat Ollie and Portia appear.  They sit very quietly for a while, then if nothing appears, Portia very gently pats my knee.  I've lost a few pounds the last few weeks(through trying to eat more healthily) but watching those hopeful little faces makes my appetite go!  I think it's moral blackmail myself.  ;D

His dinner includes a part of our meal most of the time.  I always set aside a bit and serve it to him just before we start our dinner so we can at least eat with a clean conscience even if he protests that it wasn't enough.  But if he does have to wait because the food is still too hot, boy, we need to wear a metal armour on our legs...

He doesn't do it so much to o/h, more to me as I'm a complete pushover lol.  He's better than he used to be, and knows that I'll always save him a bit at the end of the meal, so he'll sit there staring at my plate until I'm finished  :evillaugh:  When I first got him he'd literally try to hook food of you're plate when you weren't watching  :shify:  :evillaugh:

Lirael's gotten a few treats from taking food right off your plate. Lately Smoke & Penguin circle my husband while he's eating (they know he'll put his plate down to type something on the laptop computer), they both completely ignore me which is great ;)

Last night I made chicken and took bits around to each cat....

Lirael was on her pillow in front of the fire and I fed her tiny bits, she's not spoiled at all!

my mum's dog and two cats would appear from nowhere on a sunday when they heard the drawer which held the electric carving knife being slid open...

also, Cosmo has started whining at me when he wants attention, strokes, cuddles etc - when I'm out he doesn't bother mathering up at OH 'cos he knows it won't work  >:( me, I'm just a sucker...

He definitely deserves to be given treats but I agree with Desley, give him treats on your terms as otherwise he might get into a habit of begging for things while you're cooking.  The boys don't get that much human food but when I do give them something I make sure it's after I've eaten.

I fell into the trap with Tiggy of being a complete pushover, if she woke up and came into the kitchen while I was cooking or eating I'd stop what I was doing to gently pan fry her some chicken and then blow it until it was cool enough for her to eat  :shy:  Lots of cold or burnt dinners for me!

I have to say, giving him some beef wont harm him, but I wouldnt' do it straight from coming out of the oven to avoid him getting used to begging, and I think I read somewhere you are best off waiting till you have eaten, and then putting it in their bowl to help with them begging for treats.
Please spay your cat

I agree with both posts below although we did that with Cleo when she was younger and now everytime food is in the oven she's next to it scrounging - whether it's chicken, beef or at the mo -  lemon meringue pie!!!!  She'll get a shock when the oven door is opened this time

Although I agree with Michelle, if you give in you may well find that every day you will have a scrounging cat.

Can I give into him ?
« Reply #1 on: October 28, 2007, 14:12:07 PM »
Leo has been sniffing round the kitchen all morning while the Beef has been in the oven.. ive just got it out & he wont leave me alone..!

If I chop it finely can i give him some ? He has all his teeth now.. Also if I put a little bit of the fat in would that be bad ?

I need him to get out from under my feet !
