I thought Bisolvon helped to thin the mucus out

It supposed to stimulate the mucous for it to be 'ahem' removed easier (think we need a 'Spit the Cat' smiley LOL!). Mind you it was devloped for use in pigs and cattle, slightly different physiology than the cat methinks   ;D

Hmmm....I don't have any Karvol. What about tea tree of eucalyptus oil if it's out of reach? Will that help or will it be potentially dangerous to him?

Karvol on a hankie hung out of their reach can help, i prefer this to Olbas as its milder!

I thought Bisolvon helped to thin the mucus out

Ahhh, he definately needs NO help in stimulating the mucus! I've been cleaning the stuff up....yeuch. He's still sounding congested, but he's getting lots of sleep in, so that'll be helping. Is there anything other than antibiotics that might help?

Ela, is Bisolvon the best type of antibiotics for cat flu?

Its not an antibiotic, its whats known as a 'mucolytic'  - it actually stimulates mucous and supposedly helps clear it - I've never found it to be very useful, in fact, because it stimulates mucous it makes the problem worse in my experience.

My oldest tom has this problem at the moment. He was just recovering from cat flu when I got him as a kitten 12 years ago. He's so snuffly - I know exactly what you mean about wanting to blow his nose!

Ela, is Bisolvon the best type of antibiotics for cat flu?

I've just looked on VetUK and it says a prescription is needed. Can it from a vet without having to take my big lad in? (He's due a jab and I don't want to take him in more than necessary - he hates cat carriers with a passion.)

Nearly took Sabre to the emergency vet last night he was coughing a lot,but he settled down and started to eat more, his eyes seem a lot better today but still watering a bit and I brought some hi life tuna as it has a stronger taste for him and he had some of that before. He is walking around more now which is another good sign.Corky still has no signs of getting it yet (good job) We are so broke from all the vet bills. :(

Nope

Perhaps you could ask the vet if it may help.

Just rang they said it can take up to two weeks till he gets better, just keep offering him small meals thoughout the day,if he doesn't eat or drink anything then I should take him in.

Yes thats true, if its full blown cat flu, it can take them a long time. When Gypsy had it a few years ago, she was very poorly and it was only in the 3rd week or so that she started to get better.

Sabre still seems really bunged up he has only eaten a few cat biscuits this morning, and is sleeping most of the time,he is purring when he is sitting on my knee,if he does go the vets again the vet just may say you just have to wait a bit longer for him to get better, has any one here had the same experience and how long does it take for an improvement. He has had a wee,its prob cos he can't blow his nose and it makes him sound worse than he is,he was trying to eat some grass last night.I won't be able to get to the vets till this afternoon if I have to go. :'(

Thanks for asking Sheryl, didn't come on yesterday to busy looking after all my babies :tired:

Simba seems better than all the others for a change, must be cos he was already taking antibiotics.
Sky eyes seems loads better now (not watery any more)
Geri snuffles seem better.
Sabra is still very sniffly and eyes watery(poor baby)
Corky still seems fine.
Been steaming vick in a pan of boiling water for them on the hob.
Yesterday one of them must of spat their tablet out cos noticed in later on on the floor :(
Just hope Sabre starts getting better now.
Another thing I thought of yesterday how they might of caught it but can't be sure is that this Ginger big cat comes around crying a lot outside of the cat run and think he might be a rescue cat as a women a few doors down from us has hada few  different cats in the past which we notice and then when you don't see the cat you will see another one a bit later.xx

Got hold of our Dennis (son) and he took me took Simba and Geri cos Geri sounds worse than the others.Gave Simba even more antibiotis for another week and some different ones for the other three, don't need any for Corky unless he shows any signs and then if Corky does get it he will have the injection for antibiotis he won't have any tabs down his throat :( Another £37 odd :-[) had to use the shopping money :-[ I really hope that is it now :'(

I dont think the Lacto B will hurt but if they are all sneezing now I would try to get a vet appointment today because if it is flu the sooner they are treated the better.  You must be at your wits end - big cyber hugs for you and your furbabies

Got to go back Tues anyway, he did have it when we got him as a kitten but my other cats didn't catch it.

Ah bless him.
Think i am right in saying that because he has had Cat Flu (now a carrier) he is more than likely to get it again,
Hope everything goes ok Tuesday xxxxxxx

Hows Simba doing this evening?
Once they have had flu they can have recurrent outbreaks especially at times of stress. Maybe the vet trips he has been on are starting to upset him.
The steroids hes having can also the lower immune system so they may be to blame.

Poor lad, i hope hes better soon

He is still sneezing quite a bit hope he doesn't get cat flu again, he has had a really bad start in life when we got him 6 months ago he had cat flu and that took weeks to get better, and the breeder fed him on tuna and that took 4 or 5 weeks to get him on proper food. Then all the tummy troubles :Luv:Don't want anything else going wrong please please. :(
