Hi Gill,

How much larger do you need?  These ones on ebay (item 270176987144 ) are 17cm & 21cm....(not mine by the way - just looking ;)!)

I used to have a good oldfashioned fuel stove. The top would get cherry red with the heat. My cats used to love jumping up on it during the night as it was still nice and warm. I lived in horror of them landing on it when it was going full bore. So one day I picked up each cat and held it just above the heat. They never went near it again. A case of having to be cruel to be kind as the consequences of them jumping on it when in operation were too horrible to contemplate

Oh mark I was hoping thatv link would solve my problem, but noooooooooo grrrrrrr 16 and 20 cm is just not quite big enough.

Also if you put these over the rings when they are hot they also just heat up and get very hot.

I think they are slightly raised so they don't touch the hotplate. Maybe you can get other sizes?

I used to put dinner plates over them - they still get hot but not hot enough to sear tender little paws.

You can buy hob cover sets for electric cookers http://www.alacook.co.uk/cgi-bin/cp-app.cgi?pg=prod&ref=KCHOBSET

We are getting an induction hob for our new kitchen - one good reason s that willow is fond of running over worktops and the cooker. The induction hobs don't get hot but transfers the heat to the pan directly. The glass will only get as hot as the pan and cools quickly.  Although they still get really hot, its not the searing heat of a hotplate.

Hi Mark, I have looked into getting one of those, like you say they are cool to the touch and aren't as hot, think I priced one for my creda
cooker for £167 ;)

P.S. Furball, How's Sox Doing ???

Accidents do happen. Xanthe tried to jump into the lit oven the other day when the door was open as I was basting the meat and she went  into major chicken frenzy. Luckily I grabbed her in time, but it made me feel sick to think what could  have happened. Hope Sox's paw is OK, if it seems as usual he should be fine.

Stuart - like the cat scan! Now I know who sits on photocopiers at Christams parties!

You Speaking about Chicken Frenzy reminded Me of this..
Kirsty My mother's Cat,(I cant remember how old she was) But it was xmas time and my Mother had a Very Large Turkey that
needed to be Defrosted, She put said Turkey in the Sink to defrost, but in the Morning My mother was cursing and swearing
about Kirsty!! That  :censored: Cat !!!  >:( >:( >:(  I asked Her what's Wrong ??
and she told me to look at The Turkey, I looked, and couldn't say anything for laughing  The Turkey was now covered in
Millions of Claw marks, and the Plastic cover was ripped to shred's (made it more Funny cause I'm a Vegetarian  )

The Year after, Not to Be out done And have Kirsty Cluck the xmas Turkey again !! My Mother Put it in the Washing machine
to Defrost !! My sister came down In the Morning and Put a Load of Washing in the Machine, You should have seen My Mother's
face when she heard the washing machine was on , A Real Picture    !!

Couldn't stop the washing machine till the cycle had finished, half an hour of knocking and banging the cycle finished, and the
Turkey was well and truly defrosted !!!
It was her own fault for not telling anybody where she put the turkey ;D

Yes , there are times our Master's get themselves into mischief, I have that Stupid hotplates on my cooker
and they take forever to cool down. one day Hamish Jumped onto work top and proceeded to walk towards
me, not looking where he was going, just looking at me meowing (the way they do :Luv:) and before I could react
Hamish stood on the Hotplate (luckily it had been off for wee while But was Still Hot, going by His reaction.
His paw must have been on the Hotplate for 100th of a second, luckily there was no burn and he just carried
on looking at me meowing PHEW !!
another time I was doing a lot of scanning, and Hamish must have detected the Heat from scanner and He sat on
it, Below is the Cat Scan ;)

Hope Sox is OK, if He isn't limping or paying a lot of attention to paw, i.e Licking etc. I say He's OK ;)
But if you notice anything I'd take him to the Vet !!

Try not to be scared...accidents will happen.

If you're still worried about him, ring the emergency vet and get some advice - it certainly won't do any harm and might put your mind at rest.

I know you should put the burn in water but it would need to be for a minute or so I would think.

Can you see the bottom of his paw and if so what does it look like?

If it looks bad I think you should ring emergency vet and ask for advice, it maybe best to do that anyway.

ONe problem would be I think is if it has blistered ab=nd he starts to lick it, this may cause an infection but I really dont know.

I feel so guilty
« Reply #1 on: October 14, 2007, 22:28:12 PM »
I'm feeling guilty tonight as i was making dinner tonight as i was dishing up sox decided to jump on the counter( he usually does this but never at dinner time he didnt see the tray till it was to late) and put his back paw on the baking tray that had come out of the oven, it was still hot and covered in grease.
Will he be ok he spent the next ten minutes licking said paw. i ran the paw under the tap (straight after it happened)to try get the fat of his paw he seemed to be trying to pull at his claws with his teeth. He seems ok he's walking on it fine but at the time he yelped when i picked him up and put his paw in water not when he touched the tray he is sleeping right now. i feel so bad he's only a nine weeks old(had his first jab yesterday). Is there anything i should do or will he be ok should i ring the vet feeling quite scared dont want him to be ill because of my stupidty :-[
 :thanks:
Helen
