Hee hee, sounds like a cat I used to know.  In my old house I was targetted by a big black cat we named Scrounger, who was a stray looking for some food and obviously clocked the fact that I had Bertie and Bella and was therefore a cat lover.  He came into the house a few times but was very aggressive towards Bertie, plus I was renting in those days and had a strict agreement with my landlord that I wouldn't have more than two cats, so I contacted a local animal resuce organisation to rehome him.  Scrounger was rehomed 10 miles away and renamed Charlie.  Two weeks later, he turned back up and I had to call the centre to get the contact details of his new owner, who was frantic as he had been missing for five days!!  Over the next year, he turned back up at my house no less than seven times ... each time he went missing, his owner would call me to warn me, and I would then see him on my doorstep 5-10 days later.  I moved out last July so have no idea whether he still does his 10-mile journey every couple of months!!

I think when cats dont like thier home or slaves they go and look for a new home, and choose the slave! ;D, About 8 years a go i went to mayhew home with my neighbour to get a little friend, and as we were looking there was this tortie young cat which in her cabin was scratching and meowing, and we got her out she was so friendly and lovely ,so i decided she is the one as i turned to take my bag from the floor i so this big black cat holding my bag and leaking it?! So sweet he was so i asked a member of staff why is he out of his cabin?  And if i can have the tortie and him to come home with me,i was told his name was OSCAR, and he has been rehomed few times and returned because he doesnt like other cats, also he needs a home with no kids and men?Apparently his very first owner treated him badly and since then everytim he was homed people couldnt coop with him, they said its very hard to rehome him,as for the tortie it was easier to find a home so we decided he is coming home with me we changed his name in the car to BOY.(Oscar didnt suit him ;)). Soon after this tabby cat turned outside my flat, friendly, young and beautifull, but boy wouldnt have it, so i started feeding him and called him snake,(He was slim and long :evillaugh:),Some nights i used to bring him in to bedroom and early morning let him out but it wasnt right for him so i took him to mayhew and asked them to find a home for him ,changed his name to Biscuiets :),he was rehomed soon after, Few months later there it was outside my flat Biscuiets&he came with a friend !!!another tabby male  I called mayhew asking them if they can check with his owner and see if he is missing , weeks later i kept calling and nothing,It started getting cold and wet and i was still feeding them outside , a neighbour turned with a box one night and we managed to cover it and make it as comfortable as we could but the heart breaking thing was biscuiets and his friend couldnt fit in together and they used to take turn , one would go in and the other would sit out in the rain :'(,I had to go to mayhew and they said they will get someone as soon as they have space?? After spending all morning i managed to make them understand that biscuiets has got a home somewhere and he was rehomed by them and they kept saying how did he end up in your place again >:(,i managed to get some one to come the day after and take them togeher and made a big donation to the home, well no wonder he left his home because the owners never reported him missing,so probably he wasnt looked after there,i dont know how far he came to find my home, but i wish all this could happened two years after i got Boy, because boy changed to be a loving cat who loves other cats, and kids and men ;)(He used to st by the door and not let my male friends in,by hissing and attacking them, everyone was scared of him) :evillaugh:,BY the way they couldnt find biscuiets file becos his name was changed to BRANDY...That shows where few come from.,not so loving home, searching for better place(Snake brandy biscuite&his friend were rehomed to a different home) :Luv: Happyending.

I would stick a paper collar on all 3 and see how many phone calls you get  :evillaugh: If one does turn out to be a stray you can put he/she on a waiting list with a rescue so they are not out all winter  ;D

Hi folks,

Reminds me of something that happened some years ago when I was living in a small house with my original two cats. I was awoken at 5 o'clock in the morning by something very heavy sitting on my chest and rubbing its face into mine. Half asleep I fumbled for the bedside light and there was this huge tortishell cat sitting on my chest grinning from ear to ear. It took me a few seconds to realise in my sleepy state that I didn't own a tortishell cat !!. I got up and escorted it downstairs and then all hell broke loose as my tom cat Oliver shot out of the front room and chased it around the house. I managed to separate them and gave it a saucer of water/milk before letting it out of the back door into the early morning air. I couldn't go back to bed as I was very much awake and a couple of hours later, as I was walking up the road on my way to work, I saw a woman standing in her doorway a few houses up who must have recently moved in and we exchanged pleasantries and she mentioned that her cat had stayed out all night and returned home just after five in the morning and, putting two and two together, I asked her if, if was a large tortishell cat by any chance. Apparently it was in the habit of going through other people's cat flaps and had obviously gone through mine and, as I had it set to only let cats in and not out, got trapped :). She thanked me and we had a good laugh and, when I got home from work that evening there was a little stack of tins of cat food sitting on my doorstep :). We became quite good friends after that and often stopped to chat about our cat(s). Who says it's only dog owners who make friends through their pets ?! :).

Cheers

Leigh

Oh I was laughing when reading the first post, and it reminds me of someone

I used to have a trail of cats through my cat flap and used to think that I had the only catflap in my road in London. But I met some gorgeous cats and some were such good friends and they all lived in rented places and only stayed a short time. They were always being moved from place to place and often couldnt get back into their homes when owners were out but others just liked my cats food cos it was better than theirs.

One owner said we only feed him on dry food cos wet food makes him ill........................really, no wonder he eats all my cats wet food, I thought and of course he hadnt been ill at all, just that cheapo biscuits save money but the cats know how to fill their tums with nice food  :evillaugh: :evillaugh: :evillaugh:

Where do they all come from?

You might remember that when I first started feeding Minnie back in May, I was leaving food outdoors as she had always been an outside cat and was reluctant to come inside with Bertie and Bella there.  We've worked on the situation over the last few months so that although she's now normally outdoors, she knocks the front door twice a day for breakfast and dinner, and then again at 11pm so she can be put to bed inside!  Since this was all working so well, I stopped putting food outside last week and was relieved at the lack of slugs and maggots in my life, at long last.

However, I was not prepared for the following:
1.  The knock on the door from a big black cat I have never seen before in my life - clearly come round looking for food and following Minnie's lead, expecting to be fed!
2.  The tortoiseshell cat I have also never seen before in my life, standing where Minnie's food used to be, meowing at me most indignantly!
OR
3.  The little ginger and white cat that walked right into the house when I left the front door open the other night and started munching Bertie and Belle's dinner as if she had a perfect right to be there!!

I have never been so popular - I've been moaning about Minnie being gutsy and eating me out of house and home but now realise I've actually been feeding at least three other cats without even knowing it ... and that Min's appetite is actually rather petite!!

Where DO all these cats come from?  The big black cat is very friendly and people are speculating that he's a stray ... OH has banned me from having cat no. 4 so I have hardened my heart and not put any food out!
