Vet consultation charge

My vets charge £27.45 for a first consultation and £19.95 for the second and any subsequent consultations.   There's a lovely vet at the main Animal Hospital branch that charges £19.95 for the first one and nothing at all for the 2nd, 3rd etc consultations, I normally go to the smaller branch but have decided that I'd like her to be the boys main vet in the future

My vet charges £22.34 for the initial consultation and £15.66 for a follow up. Thinking of going back to the practise at our local animal shelter which is so much cheaper and run by the vets at out present practise. £ 8.14 is amazing

Wow wish i lived in an area with fees around £8 or £10, the luck i'm having lately with my cats i could do with a cheaper vet!!

I'm moving Ralph tomorrow to another vet where they are more friendly and much cheaper!!

Mine charges about £25 for the first appointment, then around £17 for a follow up and £12 for any subsequent ones.  As someone else said, the size or type of animal isn't relevant, it's their time you are paying for.  My previous vets used to charge an £8 flat rate for small animals like my bunnies (and very often they didn't charge me for consultations at all) but I now feel it's worth paying more to get better care.  Although having said that, there isn't necessarily a correlation between fees and service!

My vet charges £10 consultation fee. Which is very good!

Vet fees differ greatly and mine is about £25.

I think if you are not happy with a vets attitude you should definately change.

When i phoned up my vets to ask them about kitty having diarohea she told me to take her to them so i asked what it would cost and she said £38 just for the consultaion fee 
So i decided that i would phone the vets that my gfs mum uses and ask for some advice and then said not to feed her for 24 hours if not to take her glad i didnt have to as that would of been a vet bill and a half

All veterinary care seems to be cheaper here. When Jasmine had her accident they had her in for 5 nights, she was on painkillers and steroids and the bill was £66. I thought I was gonna have to take out a mortgage to pay the bill lol. It was £10 when she was pts.

I rang the vets and they said that was their consultation fee, she asked why i wanted to know so i said i was just curious as a vet less than 10 miles away was only charging 18 for their appointments, she was quite abrupt with me so think i'll be moving him to the same vet as the other two now!!  It's quite a big difference almost £10 plus they are not very friendly she told me off because Ralph had put on 20g in a month.  I told her he was a house cat at the moment but she was so rude, he runs around so much and he doesn't eat that much so i'm not overly concerned about his weight at the moment he's a big cat anyway!!

My vet has just put her consultation charge up (again!) to £24.66 - was £23 a few months back, so yes, it sounds fairly normal charge.

I think i'm in the wrong job should have become a vet!!!!!!!

Yep, me too - thats what I'd planned to do when I left school - all those many, many years ago LOL! - didnt follow the dream though!

The vet's I WAS using charged £25 for consultation
due to finding Hamish's reciept for treatment for a cold - & Blood's which were taken 22/04/2006 !!
(and they said the last blood's they did was in 2001)

I am Now moving to another practice !!!!

That sounds like a normal consultation charge.  It's about £20 at my vets.  It will vary depending on where you live, like lots of things.  An out of hours consultation costs a lot more - about £70.  I don't think the consultation charge has anything to do with size (although obviously it will be more if the vet has to come to your home because you can't take the animal there) - you're paying for their time and expertise.

Like you said i think they make it up as they go along but last week i paid for exactly the same treatment and that was £27 for consultation and tablets for Ralph it cost me £41

I was looking at our vets charges the other day and it said something like £12 for a basic consultation up to £37 for a full consultation. I don't know how they differentiate but would imagine if its for worming etc its basic but if its diagnostic (without tests) then its a full one. They seem to make them up as they go along. I get a repeat prescription for Clapton every month an they always charge me a fee on top wich sometimes is £3.50 but the last time was £2.00

I had to take Ralphie to the vets last night as he's caught what Cleo had - full of sneezes!!!

Anyway i paid the bill and it wasn;t unti i got home that i noticed they'd charged me £27.94 for consultation.  It wasn't an emergency appointment just a normal check up.  I'm going to ring them today to ask why it's so much.  Ralphie is at a different vet at the moment to Jet and Cleo, their vet charges £18 for an appointment.  I'm going to ring them this afternoon to ask why they charge so much.  My sister only pays £25 for a consultation for her horse, i know Ralphie is big but he's not that big!!!!!!!!! 

Think might have to move him to the same vet as the other two!
