I received a phone call this afternoon,
Caller: Can you come and get this kitten it has been dumped in a box outside my home while I was out.
Me: We have no room just now but I can put in on the list of cats waiting to come in. (We had already
taken in a cat earlier who had been threatened to be PTS, I know a lot of people do this but I
could tell, gut feeling tha caller was not messing)
Caller: Well I can't keep it my child has asthma. I already have one cat and that lives outside.
Me: Well if you keep the kitten it for a few days I will bring it next, I promise.
Caller: The cat lives outside.
Me: Would you like me to put that on the list of cats waiting to come in and it is not really fair to make it live outside.
Caller: It is allowed in the kitchen
Me: How old do you think the kitten is?
Caller: 5 or 6 months, I can't remember.
Me: Is it the mother cat you have and you homed the kitten.
Caller: I think so, I did check the new homes very carefully though.
Me: Has mum been spayed?
Caller: No
Me: Would you like me to send a voucher towards the cost of having her spayed.
Caller: I already have one from the RSPCA,
Me: (Because I know our local RSPCA only gives £10 vouchers to people who adopted cats from them).
Did you get the cat from the RSPCA?
Caller: No
Me: (Suspicious) Is it for the full cost?
Caller: I don't know
Me: Do you still have it?
Caller: Yes
Me: Will you have a look now how much it is for and if it is not full cost I will send you a full cost voucher
for the mum and one for the kittenCaller: Um, Um, I don't know where it is (what a surprise)
Me: If I send full cost vouchers, will you take them to the vets next week.
Caller: How much will I have to pay.
Me: Nothing
Caller: OK then. But the kitten may have been spayed, I don't know,
Me; Well she is only just about old enough to spay now so you would notice the signs.
Caller: But I homed her 6 or 7 weeks ago.
Me: Vets round here will not spay until at least 5 months more usually 6 and in any case even after 6 or
7 weeks there would still be some evidence.
Caller: Oh!
Me: Are you sure you don't want me to put mum on the list of cats waiting to come in.
Caller: It is allowed in, we let it in the lounge.
Well: If at any time you feel that it is your little ones interest to re-home her please give me a ring.
