4got to say, with the DNA test, you will need 2 tests, @ 6 months apart.  First test gives a 'benchmark' second test then determines the aggressiveness of the FIV, thus showing which stage the cat is at.

I know the Bristol School of Clinical Veterinary Science is excellent and over the years I have heard many good reports about it.

Just thought is that not the University that Vets in Practice was filmed?

Thanks for that - my vet had mentioned 2 places for the FIV testing, but I couldnt' find anything on the other one, so that was very handy.

Bristol also do an early test for kittens - a true reading at 9wks old (not just anti bodies)

Hi all.

I am relatively new to this site.  Our Fizz was diagnosed as FIV+ earlier this year.

We were told by our vet about the tests Glasgow carry out as, you all know, there is a slight percentage of in house tests which give false results.

After carrying out some internet research, there is also a facility at Bristol which do the same.  They also carry out DNA tests, upon request, to determine how far advanced the FIV is.  We had this test carried out on Fizz (all done with one blood sample) for @ £35.  Cannot remember if we were charged for an initial FIV Elisa test or not - so much has gone on this year, one way and another.

It has helped us, at least we know he is not in the latter stages of FIV so we ought to be able, with the support of our vet, to treat and overcome anything which he is suffering from.  (See link http://www.purrsinourhearts.co.uk/index.php?topic=7470.msg119255#msg119255)
