Thanks to you all for the helpful suggestions.

The smell is starting to clear now, but I just couldnt believe how long it has lingered!!!   I think the smell went into all the material and soft furnishings in the room!!!

Thanks again  :thanks:

I've found that surgical spirit is very good and gets rid of most smells.

Isn't baking soda supposed to get rid of smells like that?  :-:

Neutrodol powder is good - just sprinkle it in the drawer, it neutralises smells.

Argh dont use bleach!!! Bleach has ammonia in it so cats think that another cat has marked its territory.....there's a thing called simple solution you can buy from pets at home.....I use bio washing powder watered down further than a paste  ;)

How to get rid of ammonia smell ... ?
« Reply #1 on: August 30, 2007, 12:09:46 PM »
My work friend has found out the one disadvantage of having a cat flap in her door … in that her cats can now bring mice etc indoors!

She found one Monday night, after enduring 2 nights of a stinky cabbaby smell and feeling rather ill on the Sunday – until they found the dead mouse which was decomposing in the drawer under their bed!

She’s trying everything to get rid of the ammonia smell – air fresheners, open windows, incense, have bleached the drawer etc – but the smell is still there

Anyone got any advice on what I can suggest to her to try?
