It's such an unknown territory....our vet suggested that FIV may be passed through saliva at one point so I always kept Georgie away from my parents cats (we were living together at the time) but it was so difficult. Georgie didn't like people (although he loved us and dribbled when we came home), other cats, dogs or anything else really but I so hoped he could have made friends. I believe that FIV is only passed through deep bite wounds and from mothers to kittens (that must be how Georgie contracted FIV) and although he had problems (manifested in eye ulcers/problems) he lived to be 12 years old....I miss him soooo much still even with Louis around.

At the moment, only Tatty has contact with our negative cats.  After he was neutered, and had lived indoors for several months, he calmed down considerably, and over a period of several months, he got used to sharing a house with people and other kitties.  :Luv:

Tabs has joined us much more recently, and we are still in the very early stages of attempting to integrate him into our family.  As both he and Tatty are FIV+, we thought we would start those introductions first.  Unfortunately, even though Tabs started out being a much calmer kitty when he joined us than Tatty was, he has shown signs that he may not like other cats.  :(

I'm not giving up hope yet - we still have a long way to go.  :scared: :)

So do your FIV+ cats have contact with your negative babies?

Hi Kelly and  :welcome: to Purrs,

Well done for taking on a second FIV kitty.

I have two FIV+ boys, Tatty and Tabs, together with 4 other FIV negative kitties, and found this site the same way that you did, after searching for FIV, just when I needed some support and reassurance, and I certainly found those here  ;D

Hope to see more (and larger)  :coolpics: of Louis soon

If you need help resizing your pics the following may help:

http://www.download.com/JPEGCompress/3000-2204_4-10404412.html?tag=lst-0-1

or

Image Resizer for windows XP

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx
It's the 10th or 11th on the right hand side .. Image resize.
Once installed right click on the photo you want to resize.
Select resize pictures
Select advanced
Select custom
Put in 400 by 300 (sometimes you have to put in smaller figures if it is still too big).
Click ok and it makes a custom photo ready for uploading

You can resize more than one picture at a time by highlighting them all and following the resizing steps above.

Hi Kelly, you can compress photos so they come down to size. Make sure that you do it as a 'save as' option though or your original will be small. If you right click on the file it will give you the option of 'open with'. Choose Microsoft windows picture manager and then choose the edit option. One of the options is compress. I usually use the 'website' size as that gets the pix down to a size that is small enough to post but big enough to see. We want pictures, that is why I am being so helpful :evillaugh: :evillaugh:

The username came from a nickname (Lijah) given to my brother years ago (can't remember why now) and even though I am older, I am most definitely littler hence Little Lijah!

Will hopefully have some pics of Louis soon....he is the most un-photogenic cat ever and he always turns the other way when the camera is pointing at him! I have one pic but the file size is too big to attach.

Hi and  :welcome: to Purrs!

Good on you for giving Louis a home - I can't believe his owners wanted to put him to sleep just because they didn't want him any more!  >:(

Hi

Just wanted to introduce myself and my little man to you all. I found this site after searching for FIV related info which is a give away to the fact that I have a cat who is FIV positive.

I lost my 12 year old tabby called Harry George in February after a long battle with FIV (it was a complete shock when I found out 5 years previously that he was FIV positive) and vowed that "I was never going to have another pet because of the heartache at losing Georgie"! After moving into a flat with no outside space I saw an advert for an 8 year old black male who was FIV positive and desperately in need of a home (his previous owners has taken him to the vets to be put to sleep because they no longer wanted him)!?!?!?!?! >:(
So off I went just to "have a look" at Louis and two days later he came to live with us. He is just the bossiest cat I have ever known and as yet has had no problems relating to his condition so fingers crossed!!

I live with my husband who has come to love cats as I do and a hamster called Larry.

Looking forward to chatting with you.

Kelly
