Well, we've heard nothing from the RSPCA...  :shify:

But both me and a colleague has carried out several drive passes and we've not seen him about. I'm hoping that's a good sign...  :scared:

It's shocked me because I when I moved from London, I thought I wouldn't come across people like that here.

I think its the opposite PB. People are more civilised n London. The "countryfolk"  :evillaugh: have a completely different mentality towards animals. The are either food, vermin or pest control  >:( - I can't see why someone would want to have a cat if they just let it roam.

Did he say "get orf my land" in the email?  :evillaugh:

Don't feel defeated. Whatever he says, he is breaking the law and needs to be taken to task. I think its one for the RSPCA to use their powers on and when they have him, offer to take him from them.

BTW - I naively expected people to be nicer here then in London as Londoners have a reputation for being unfriendly but its not the case. We are called "DFL's" here (down from london) and its not a compliment.

Dont feel defeated PB....you know that your doing the right thing and your heart is in it

The upsetting thing of all is it dosent matter what walk of life people are from there are always going to be ppl like this where ever you go  >:(

I am wavering between anger and depression over this one now.

This  :censored: managed to get hold of the address of one of our past coordinators and stuck a note through her door.  :scared: When she replied to him via the email he'd supplied sayiing "dunno who you are but how did you get my address?" He wrote back to her launching into a tirade likening us to the IRA.  >:( >:( >:( Poor Carlos is obviously still got those fur matts and would still be riddled with fleas if I hadn't Frontlined him.  :'(

I think this is all going to turn very nasty. It's shocked me because I when I moved from London, I thought I wouldn't come across people like that here.

I feel defeated....  :(

Various phone calls will be made to the RSPCA today.  ;)

We have reason to believe that Carlos's case may already be know to them. No proof, but something our vet hinted at... But if we'd known that early yesterday, maybe we would have toughed it out for a bit longer. You know how it is under pressure trying to sort out chaos?  :shy: Meanwhile his 'owner' has written demanding this, that and the other and not thanking us once for picking his cat out of the gutter, defleaing him and feeding and caring for him for 2 days - he's demanding to know who reported him!  :P

We haven't given up yet. One way or another, Carlos won't have to go through that again.  ;)

UPDATE

We have had no option but to hand Carlos back for now.  :( His owner replied to our email detailing the state he was in. He didn't ask if Carlos was alright now. He didn't ask if he could see him. He said "please give me Carlos's location WITHOUT FURTHER DELAY"....  >:(  :P :P

He is now at our vet awaiting collection from this  :censored: Our vet will present him with an estimate for his required treatment and will also call the RSPCA today to get them in the picture.

I felt like a traitor handing back to this man but what else could I do? We have no legal powers and this is really one for the RSPCA....  :scared:  :'(

Sadly, I think not, Ruth...  :(

From the state of this cat's feet, he hasn't been on anything softer than tarmac for months. And the reports we got say he's around begging 24/7 and always laying in the road... When I got him, he was so tired and so hungry, he slept 6 hours solid after he's eaten two bowls of food straight off...   >:(

We've asked for the name of his vet so we can see when he was last treated for anything.

And there's nothing to say he was imported legally. His chip details haven't been changed from his Spanish address. Which also may explain why he's so keen to get Carlos back! :shify:

Some people just don't like their 'property' removed without consent. I'm pinning my hopes on the RSPCA.  :shy:

Seems odd that someone would go to the trouble of importing him from Spain and then neglect him.   He'd have had to have all the right vaccinations and paperwork to be allowed into the country.

I thought the new animal welfare act was supposed to cover this sort of thing?  Where it's not out and out cruelty but the animal isn't being cared for properly?

He's very handsome  :Luv:

Well atleast you know he is wanted.....maybe the owner isnt clued up ie correct flea & worm treatments to use etc.....that would not surprise me these days......hopefully with a push in the right direction and the shock of the cat been noticed by an authority he will change his ideas on the right way to bring the gorgeous Carlos up  ;)

What a busy morning!  :scared:

Carlos's owner has been in contact via phone message and email. He says he wants his cat back!  >:(

We have responded with an email, carefully worded so as not to make him hostile. We have pointed out Carlos's condition and his need for vet treatment. We await response...

Meanwhile, the vet says his state isn't obvious cruelty but he isn't being cared for the way he should be. In short, we can't prove diliberate neglect enough to make it legal.

Sharon has called the RSPCA. They said they will send an Inspector to talk to his owner if refered by the vet. Our welfare officer is putting the squeeze on the vet to get this done.

But it looks like we are going to have to give Carlos back for now...  :(

after he has been seen by the vets do a home visit. If he is elderly the cat may be his only companion. If so, then assess whether he is capable of looking after it. He may not be simply because of limited mobility. I would err on the side of humanity with this one, and provide advice and follow-up visits if you can manage it.
