The keeper of this cat is picking him up tonight. I gave her a right lecture about chipping and will talk to the owners when they come back tomorrow. The lady sounded like a student to me and knew very little about cats, but she agreed he did wander.. I tried to get her to see it our way.. we leave him to face the traffic or we don't.. He will prob return to that restuarant as well and the one the other side of the road as well.. Think  his days are numbered if he does. She said that he is usually in at night, well how come we  had a call at 8pm then? She couldnt even remember if he had ben done or not.... The cats home is in a busy part of the city roads everywhere, i am amazed he has lasted this long.. The owner will get some info about chipping, at least that would of sorted the matter out very quickly, he didnt even had a collar... Oh well, never going to see eye to eye with all of them out there i suppose.. At least we know get our pen back for another needy stray...

I have a feeling most of their money probably isnt spent in the best way  :tired: admin and nice shiny new vans to collect cats to PTS in, if they turn up at all  :(

I think she was too gutted to consider that. She did point out to them they are obliged by law to keep any stray animal for 7 days before euthanasing it, but is not really an assertive person, my sister and I did not find out about it for several months. If I had, they would have been given a right earful. Not that it would have brought cally back (short for calico cat), but just so they didn't do it to some other poor sod.

I have heard several cases of cats being lifted from their own garden by an over zealous rescue worker.  :evillaugh:

But it is unforgiveable to not wait a decent lenght of time before taking such a drastic move as PTS.  >:( If it wasn't taking cash away from animals, I'd be inclined to sue!

Happened to my sisters cat who had, for 23 years happily seated herself in the middle of their (very quiet) street in the sun and who, because of her advanced age was beginning to look a little motheaten. New neighbour spotted her, had the RSPCA collect her, and when my sister came home from work that night and called the RSPCA they had euthanased the cat already...

Needless to say the new neighbour was never spoken to again (by several people in the street).

This happens to so many cats when their owner is away, also many go missing at this time. When people go on holiday and ask a friend or neighbour to feed we always recommend that the cats is kept indoors. The trouble here is that I expect that cat will return again and again to the dangerous location.

Well, as I suspected, this puss lives a short distance away...  :evillaugh:

A very scared young lady called this afternoon to say the cat she had been minding had been scooped up by us, she was told by the restuarant that called us in. She was alarmed as she thought we may have him PTS. Why, I dunno?  :shify:  :shy:

His owners are away on hols and she was feeding him twice daily. He had his breakfast, turned his nose up at his tea and went to the resturant for a coq aux vin instead.  :rofl: :rofl:  :rofl:

Sharon is going to give the lecture about microchipping...

I emailed Oscar (the lady's son) with the pics. He said he will do posters & leaflets. He seems very responsible and I think he will keep his word.

This puss has no chip and there fore will go in our other pen.. Whichis very annoying as another more needy puss should of been going in there first, one that isnt in the best of health. But we are out of pens............If only people would chip their cats... Im not particularly keen for people to take on cats when they have only just rang us at 8pm last night.. They could of kept him safe until morning done the collar thing that we suggested a while back (if its the same cat) and saved us having to use a pen for more needy cats....Very often people say that they would be wiling to take a cat on at the spur of the moment, but 2 wks down the line they change their minds..........so i am abit cautious here...We will advertise for 14 days and contact vets and i will see if this lady gets in touch to see how he is doing, if she dosnt then i think that says it all really. He is obviously a wandering cat and could get into all kinds of trouble.. He is neutered though.........

Lets wait and see.

I almost asked if I could have some  :evillaugh:
A bowl of chicken there probably costs about £30! - it was one of those restaurants that terrify me. Lovely georgian building, with a lectern inside the door, crisp white table cloths, candleabra etc  :evillaugh:

I ended up having my dinner at 10.30pm and it was a disaster - I decided to do chicken fajitas. had the chicken frying in olive oil, added the onions, searched for the frozen chopped peppers and didn't have any  :( - had to adlib so mixed in a can on sweetcorn and a can of refried beans. By the time I added salsa & creme fraise, the were very edible  :evillaugh:

As long as she doesn't live over the restaurant - I don't think she does though. My guess is they live in one of the villages outside canterbury.

Like you, Ela, we can only take a finite number of cats. This cat is in perfect health. The proceedure is paper collar, scan for chip, put on the waiting list to come in.  ;)

I know where he was reported before is the centre of the city where there is very little traffic as its only cabs and delivery vans but where he was found as Julie said is the other side of the ring road and very busy. Sharon only had room in a kitten pen in a lean to and said she will try to sort something out tomorrow. Most of the fosterers are on holiday so will be a problem.

I still reckon it's the same cat, Mark. Exact same description. He does the rounds of all the resturants in that area I was told. Ask the taxi drivers.  :evillaugh: It just sounds like he's found a fresh punter  8) Silly cat to run the risk of the ring road, though...  :scared:

When I dealt with him, Ela, he wasn't in a dangerous location. Not sure how well you know Canterbury? I visited the site, spoke to witnesses - all of whom fed him every evening. All of them said he went home. But this resturant was cooking him his own dish of chicken chow mein.  :tired:

It was a different area Julie, Isobel said he was around a year old and very healthy. Sharon said if he was OK to use the paper collar but to take a view regarding how at risk he was in the area (hewouldn't have lasted a day). I think the restaurant owners were good to put him in the office for safety (with a big bowl of roast chicken  ;D )

I did ask if he had been hanging around for long - he said yes , over an hour  :Crazy: - but as I said the roads around the restaurant are deadly.

If it were us we would have dealt with it as Mark did, we do not use the paper Collar method when the cat is in a dangerous location.

This is not the Six Dinner Sid who I dealt with from that same area three weeks ago, is it?  :shify: It sound very much like it...  :sneaky: Funnily enough they called at past 9pm last time....  :tired:

Sharon is going to check in the morning as it was too late to do much tonight. Lets hope so. I'm sure he just wandered off but there are lots of windy streets and a very busy ring-road around the city nearby so it wasn't safe to leave him and hope for the best.

Sharon received a call tonight that an emaciated cat was being looked after at a posh restaurant in canterbury. Sharon called me to see if I could go and see what the situation was. I got there about 8pm and went to the back of the restaurant. A young man said the cat was up in the office as they were scared he was going to run away. When I got up there, I was greeted by a very healthy looking handsome male tabby who was a big fusser. I knew that he was well looked after and probably belonged to someone but the roads around there are really dangerous. I was wondering what to do for the best when Isobel (another volunteer who is a vet  ;D ) arrived and examined him - clean bill of health  ;D but agreed that he could get squished. The woman who owned the restaurant said she thought he was really handsome. I asked her if she wanted 1st shout if he isn't claimed - she said "yes"  ;D - Anyway, whisked him off to Sharon's and he is in her emergency pen until tomorrow  :Luv:

Pics aren't great but he was in a pen in a lean-to and it was dark outside so we had to be careful.
