Black cats/kittens have a tough time getting homes.

How peculiar - do you think it is a hangover from perceptions about bad luck and witches?? My little black cat has just moved into Smidgens Ikea tent and is the light of my life ...

No one knows the reason, but look in the rehoming pages of any rescue and you'll find a disproportionately high number of black and black and whites to any other colour.  :(

Quite honestly I think the reason there are more looking for homes is because more black & black/whites are born than other colours.

Very occasionally someone will ring me and say they want the cat that will be the most difficult to home. It brings joy to my heart when I hear those words.

Years ago when I went to kennels in search of a rescue dog I took the cowardly way out; I didnt look at a single dog just asked them to bring me the one who had been there the longest that no one else wanted. If I was lucky enough to be able to have another I would do it exactly the same.
The fosterers should be able to advise on the "best fit" and if you are not sure go and visit again, they wont mind.
Good Luck

Tough one....  :scared:

Tabby boys are just so much fun. I've never had a tabby boy that wasn't a soppy cuddler.  :evillaugh: :Luv:

It has to be said girls can often be a bit stand-offish. But then again, I have just heard a report from a fosterer saying the girl she currently has in her care is the most affectionate cat she's ever known.  :Luv: And at the kitten stage they are a blank canvass so you can work with them to overcome shyness...

Black cats/kittens have a tough time getting homes.

Yep... I probably go for the girls.  :sneaky:

My advice would have to be - is either pair going to be less easy to rehome, in your opinion?  If so, take the more difficult-to-rehome pair.

Whatever you decide, hugs to them.

Went to look at two pairs of kittens today, probably shouldn't have as now between a rock and another rock lol

1st pair both boys very outgoing one even more than the other no regard for his own safety lol and all tabby and a tabby and white

2nd pair two girls one black who was quite nervous and one white and tabby patches with one blind eye she was very bold nothing, phased her and she acted big sister to Missy the timid one

So now don't know what to do, going to speak to my daughter who I hope is going to objective on my behalf lol

I'm not sure about establishing too strong a set of search criteria myself. I set out to find an elderly cat, possibly a breed of some sort, and look where it got me - an abyssinian cross male kitten and a black moggie of indeterminate age. Love them both to bits so I say go with what is put in your path - if you love it you will overlook the little details ... Kitten searching with a tick list is a bit like saying I want this baby I am having to have red hair, blue eyes and grow up to be an intelligent sportsman. You gets what you're given but you love it anyway ...

Super news  :wow:  Have you got a preference for boys or girls?  When I was looking to rehome after losing Tiggy I was adamant that I only wanted two boys as I didn't think I'd be able to love another girl like I love her.  Went to see L & R and was told that Lukey was a girl, it was too late by then as I had fallen in love with them both - Lukey turned out to be a boy in the end so I'm so glad I looked past what I thought I wanted as otherwise I wouldn't have him now  :)

Yes I have the only thing I need now is litter and food but need to find out what the little tykes are on first :)

The boys took to chick crumbs from day one, I'd already bought the CC's and was going to go out and get whatever they had been used to after I brought them home but they beat me to it and used the tray straight away with no problems.

Worlds best or chick crumb is good for kittens as it has no dodgy chemicals added to it, so if they eat it they dont get ill

Can I recommend the wood pellet type litter? Much better for tiny paws as the grains won't get stuck between the pinkies...  ;D

Aw...!

I'm so thrilled for you, honey!  :cheer: :cheer: :cheer:

But we could have told you not to bother with the dusting!

Now, take your time in choosing...  :sneaky: And don't look at two many at once or you will want them all. If the first batch isn't right, move on....  ;) But before long you'll find two that are perfect!  :wow:

And does this mean that there's some Hobknobs up for rehoming?  :look 2: :tongue 2:

It went excellently :) she was very nice, didn't drink any tea coffee or have a hobnob though lol, I also blitzed the flat last night and all she looked at was the living room :)

I have a chance to go see a pair of boys and a pair of girls over the next few days, will ring shortly after the homechecker has had a chance to warn the fosterer's. the boys are a week or so away while the girls are ready now don't know if I can look at more than one pair, it breaks my heart to have to leave some :)

But went well, thanks everyone for your support

happy happy happy
