Great ending for a lovely girl  :Luv:

Shame you couldn't keep her but as you always say, there will always be others.

Thanks for a nice ending Ela

This is such good news, I'm really happy it's all worked out and once again Ela thank you for helping this cat.

Also Ela - sorry I haven't managed to reply to your email about Whiskas, it's been a manic week or so at work and I've not had chance to do any social stuff! I'm really pleased though. Does the lady who brought her to you know?

The new owner is so eager to take Whiskas home she has been out today and bought everything a cat could desire and later today she is off to her new home. I am so happy for her but also there is a tinge of sadness because I wanted her myself. Still I know there is another Whiskas out there waiting for a valued place.

This morning one of our volunteers who I have known for a couple of years rang and asked if I still had Whiskas, I said yes and she said her mum would be very interested, so I arranged for her mum to come and see Whiskas, and immediately they fell in love and Whiskas will be going to her new home in a few days. However, that is not the end of the story, we were all talking as you do, and someone mentioned Penmore, I said oh! my mum was a nurse there, and the new owner of Whiskas asked her name but did not seem to recognise it, I then mentioned another name of someone who who worked there and she said oh thats is a relation of mine, I looked at my husband and said it is a relation of Stuarts also, then the penny clicked, the new owner of Whiskas is a long lost cousin of Stuarts and her daughter the volunteer I have known for quite a while was one of our bridesmaids. What a small world.

Whiskas was a very brave girl today, she went to the vet for her boosters and a full MOT. She has been given a clean bill of health, Thankfully it apprears that Whiskas has forgiven me as she is still continually plying for attention and rolling over and over. I do hope I can home her before I go on my holidays.

I'm not surprised she didn't like her last owners, with what they were prepared to do to her!

That's lovely news Ela, I'm so glad she's happy and well and hope she finds a nice new home soon

p.s a scritch is a scratchy headrub, my foster cat will let you do it all day!

I now know for sure Whiskas  definitely is not the she who must be obeyed', she is adorable. She loves everyone and seems to like kids also during the last couple of days children have visited and  soon as she hears their voices she is plying for their attention and rolling over on her back.

She sounds like a little sweetie! Maybe the owners had made her out to be worse than she is to ease their consciences about their initial decision.

Glad she's settled. Give her a scritch from me!

Whiskas has settled in very well, she spent the first couple of hours or so in the litter tray. (as many of the newbies do). What didn't  help matters is that not long after Whiskas came so did Jonty come for a few days.  She then came out had a walk round the pen and curled up and went to sleep. I am able to fuss her and she loves it. She does not appear to the the 'she who must be obeyed' type as suggested in one of the first posts. She is eating well so I think all in all you can say she is happy.

How did you manage to persuade them

I just phoned the owners brother and asked if he could make one final plea. To even say that I personally would love to keep the cat, (which I would) lie say anything to try to persuade her to give the cat to me. He said he was going to see his sister that evening and would do his best.

Thankfully his best was good enough. All credit to him he brought the little one to me (he is a teacher and obviously is off work just now but his wife had to take a days leave so she could come along also.

You know  Whiskas must have been well cared for as she is in purrfect condition, chipped and injected although that ran out 2 days ago but next week I will take her for a booster. She also came with 2 bags full of the most expensive cat food money can buy.

She looks lovely!

Ela you are truly great. Thank you again.

I came back to work today to emails from you saying you'd not heard and one from the lady at work saying she hadn't been able to change their minds and Whiskers was definitely going to be PTS.....I'm so glad I'd seen the forum last night and knew otherwise.

I'm so pleased she's safe and you managed to persuade the owners. Thank you.

a short time in a pen before being adopted.

The pen is also quite big, the run alone is at least 10' x 6' and has a tree branch leading to  shelves a sun lounger and loads of other bits and bobs.

Fingers crossed - so sad that a healthy cat would be pts cos the owner thinks it is better than them spending (hopefully) a short time in a pen before being adopted.

Glad there is a happy ending for this little one.

Apparently up until last night the cat was definitely going to be PTS.The owner thought the cat would be better of PTS as she did not want it to spend time in a pen. Obviously she has no idea how the better rescues work and did not know that every cat that comes into our care has everything its heart could desire and our pens are very nice with heating, lighting, toys and runs. I rang the owners brother yesterday afternoon and after he had advised me that she had made the decision to PTS I asked if he could have just one more try. He advised me that he was going to see her last night to see what he could do. Later last night the owners Sister in Law rang to say that her husband would bring the cat from Chorley to my home this morning. So please keep everything crossed.

I suggested petalcleanse, but as we all know, how much people will try/put up with depends on their determination to keep the animal. I haven't even suggested they take the cat to Australia, there's no point seeing as the sister in law would rather PTS than try to find a new home!

There's always an endless supply of excuses, the best one I heard was that they had redecorated and the dog no longer fitted the colour scheme.

That is absolutely pathetic - almost sounds like it must be a joke because it is so ludicrous.

I am allergic to cats, so is my sister, bf's dad, my dad... etc etc etc - I just take allergy tablets once (or twice) a day and stockpile them when they are cheap out of the hayfever season. I keep a stash for visitors too - its not exactly a strain to take a tablet, is it?  :tired:

You're right, once they've made up their minds that's it, the animal has to go..... or they think by lying the animal is more likely to be dealt with quickly.

I'm crossing my fingers the lady at work has got something sorted - I'll catch up with her tomorrow and keep you posted.

You are quite right, so often (daily) I receive calls from someone who cannot keep a cat or more usually cats for a certain reason, I say oh! that can easily be resolved and advise them how, they then come up with another reason, again I advise how that can be solved and then of course nother reason and another, in the end I sometimes say, look you don't really want the cat do you?  We will still help you but I would rather you be honest. It is the same when people ring to say they have found a kitten/cat sometimes they know its name and age, gut feeling usually tells you if it is there cat. I usually say please tell me if it is your cat as I will still help you but if it is yours you can tell me so much more about its needs and likes. Usually they then come clean.

I know, grr. I know there are many genuine cases (my most recent foster dog was a very genuine one, a lady who refused to go into care til her dog was sorted) but most could be avoided if people were more bothered about their animals, and didn't see tham as so disposable. But I don't need to point that out on here, many people deal with it every day and know it only too well.
