I put mum in the carrier the other day and put it down by Kizzy. Neither hissed or seemed that bothered by each other. Kizzy is now an outdoor cat so maybe she won't mind so much. She did have a 'boyfriend' for a while until the lady moved house. Having foster cats also got her used to other cats being around. She no longer hisses when I smell of other cats.

One kitten went to his new home a few days ago. He will make a nice companion for one of my near neighbour's cats. He is settling in well already. The other two are on reserve, pending home checks, to people who I know. Mum is going to stay with me - I'm adopting her, as she is gorgeous! She's been neutered, so no more kittens for her.

I'm just doing a short-term foster this time. I may help out again later, but my circumstances will be changing so I can't take any other kits on for the time being.

Good to hear from you again Jenny - sorry to hear about the divorce though. Glad you are fostering again, I am sure it will help you, and as you say, at least the ones she was willing to give up are safe now. Can't wait to see pics!!

They obviously didn't love the cat to start with. They would not give up the other kitten no matter how hard we tried. As I said in a previous post, we are thankful we got the mum and her other three kittens out of there.

Thats strange, why would you want to keep a kitten and give up the mother cat when she has been the cat you loved to start off with.

We do insist but in a nice way of course to date no one has ever declined our offer especially when we advise that it is in the kittens interest. Although the bottom line would we would help anyway.

Cats Protection like to limit people who keep cats in their own homes/.pens in gardens to 12 cats including their own. Off course if a cat has kittens that can't be helped when you go over. This is mentioned in the Cat Care Standards booklet which Co-ordinators should give a copy to each fosterer.

We have a potential problem like that. We got a call from a lady of limited educational ability. She'd found a heavily pregnant cat and taken it in. She called the RSPCA, who came to inspect, told her to put some newspaper in the corner of the room an left again....

She called us in a panic by mistake - she actually thought she was calling the RSPCA again - to say puss was behaving strangely. It was obvious this lady wasn't up to caring for this puss and her babies so our welfare officer carefully pursuaded her to give us puss to care for during birth and kitten weaning.... But now she's demanding this and demanding that and she's forgetting or ignoring everything we agree with her... It's like negotiating with a goldfish.

The point is we couldn't compel her to sign over the cat, so we've pretty much got to give this puss back... eventually! But we're trying to get her to sign over the babies

Fosterers who have several pens in their garden are not limited to how many Cats kittens they can have in their care, as long as they don't exceed the capacity of the pens.

We take in many cats from simlar situations and I would have insisted that mum and kittens stayed together until at least 8 weeks old. Then once I had the kittens I would ask the owner to sign for the kitten she wanted, there we could ensure it wsa neutered/spayed at the right time.

Don't let CP HQ know that or else they will not be happy. We are not supposed to have more than one litter per fosterer. (I appreciate that is in an ideal world and if we look through rose colours spectacles)

Although I do understand their reasoning and have known a foster with 2 litters plus adults completly wiped out when a kitten got enteritis.

I have started fostering again. I heard my local CP branch were inundated again so I cleared out my spare room and within 24 hours it was occupied by a gorgeous mum cat and her three 5 week old kittens. The previous owner decided to keep one of the kittens though. GRRRR!!! I bet it was female and no doubt will be pregnant in 6 months time. When will people learn.

Despite being busy working and with 3 children to look after AND a divorce to deal with, I thought 'what the heck'! The children are enjoying helping me and they love playing with the kittens. Mum cat is likely pregnant again so she is going in to be spayed this week. One CP fosterer alone has over 30 kittens in her care ranging from 6 weeks to 12 weeks. It's the worst year for them - it gets worse each year, though.

I will be browsing through the posts if/when I get a chance. lol!

Does anyone know of a good air freshener that gets rid of bad smells? I don't want one just to mask the smell. They do have some stinky poos at the moment! What about Neutradol? I read it is not harmful to animals, but does it work.
