the strategy behind flea collar's is that fleas drink via the cats mouth

Assuming you mean the blood, how come that  a cat can have scabs all overs its body from where the flea has taken blood.  Well I know why the scabs occur (due to an allergic reaction) but it means that fleas  drink from all over the body.

ARGH! Learn it from a female......dont "tell" yer sis.....advise her

A bit like the difference asking someone to do something and telling them to. You have to do it but it is far nicer to be asked.

ARGH! Learn it from a female......dont "tell" yer sis.....advise her  ;)

ps....the strategy behind flea collar's is that fleas drink via the cats mouth thus crawling under the flea collar to get there.....i think the inventors forgot that fleas can jump

There are rescues on here who have cared for cats whose leg had to be amputated due to horrific injuries caused by so called safety collars (the elastic type)

Unfortunately some of the cats we have dealt with with horrendous collar injuries had not only had elastic type collars on. Also as some of you may know Cats Protection had designed what was supposed to the ultimate of safety collars, sadly that too caused injuries so was withdrawn

do see the benefit of having a collar for that reason.

If the cat was chipped  and involved  in an accident or taken to a rescue the same can be said, and this is without the dangers that collars themselves can bring. Please don't think we are getting at you but many of us have experienced the problems that collars can bring. It is not nice authorising a cat to be PTS because of a collar injury

and Bengalbabe .. hmmmm I still want a Bengal, I have a large house and plenty of room for them so shouldn't be a problem.  Its that problem of where to draw the line i guess.

well I am not the best person to advise on that one, for sure  :evillaugh:

One gorgeous kitten  ;D

But have to go with the others about the collar, it needs to be a breakaway one to be safe cos it would be so awful if something bad happened to her.

Jealous, jealous, jealous  :Luv: :Luv: :Luv:  She is gorgeous, I bet you're so excited  :wow:

On the collar issue my two will wear collars when they are old enough (around 6 months so not long to go)  but they are the breakaway safety type.  There are rescues on here who have cared for cats whose leg had to be amputated due to horrific injuries caused by so called safety collars (the elastic type) so even though my 19 year old cat wore that type all her life I have switched to the breakaway type, I just wasn't aware how dangerous they could be.

Would she listen about spaying mummy cat?    :wish:

Also, you may not know that frontline can be bought online loads cheaper than the vets sell it  ;D and if you go through a rescue link they earn a little commission  ;)

She's adorable  :Luv:  How old is she and when do you get her?

Agree about the collar - ones that snap open under pressure are the best type to have if you want a collar.

Flea collars DONT work !

Do you know how many times ive heard and said that to people?
my 2 cats have collars but have ID barrels attached to them.. when my previous cat A.S.B.O (rip) was knocked down by a car, all he had was my phone number marker penned on his collar and i was contacted straight away so i do see the benefit of having a collar for that reason. As for a flea repellent, my vet told me a while back that they 'might' be effective if the flea is an inch away from the collar but other than that they are pretty much useless.  same goes for the bob marten spot-on.. I only use the frontline vets stuff and in this weather use the bob marten flea carpet shake and vac to keep any fleas at bay.  I can tell my sister all this, whether she takes my advice or not is a different matter  :'(

Flea collars DONT work !

Your sister needs to treat Mum and Kittens with something from the Vet
ie: Frontline

Also Mum and Kittens need to be wormed - coz if they have fleas they will have worms
Again this NEEDS to be bought from the vets.

So come on what name your thinking of ??

I didnt think it was so bad to have the collar on her.  It was my sister who put the collar on.. the kitties mother had really bad fleas recently so i guess she thought it was the right thing to do .. it IS a collar for a kitten and not an adult. I will tell her though next time we speak .. and NOOO name for her yet, I was thinking Boadicea .. but its just a thought at the moment..

and Bengalbabe .. hmmmm I still want a Bengal, I have a large house and plenty of room for them so shouldn't be a problem.  Its that problem of where to draw the line i guess.

She is lovely! ;D

What's her name?

And I can understand why people put collars on their cats, but as mentioned, please look into a break away one for her. (Mine lose theirs regularly, but at least it means it's doing its job!)

Beautiful kitten.
Hope you dont mind me pointing out that the collar she is wearing is actually rather dangerous  if she gets caught on something.
Collars are best left until 6 months of age and then always use a snap release one.
