Funny you should say that !
When Issey was referred to the Hospital they wanted us to pay the bill and then recover the money from the insurance company.
If you couldnt do this you had to pay any extra £25 (you coudnt claim that back though) for them to get money straight from insurance company

There wasnt a fee when i enquired in Feb  ;D

we did get a earlier appoint but mi dad wont let hubby have time off and i cant drive that far , it will take a few hours

What a shame, Had I been in that position I am afraid my dad would have not got any peace until he given in and I would have told him I hope if he is ever ill he has to wait for treatment. If that failed I would have taken the time of anyway. Especially as the sooner  the little once can come of steroids the better.

4pm till 9am the next day on oxigen a little , well peter the vet only charged me £19.50   i think he is feeling sorry for me

He must have done. Round here hospitalization is £20 plus VAT a night  and Oxygen therapy is also £20 plus VAT an hour.

AHT said that i could do that as my vet also gets payment stright from the insurance

its the cost of the treatment that worries me cause we dont have a lot on the insurance to play with , as vets has done some investigation and then theres her ongoing meds too

Im glad you have got your date now  ;D i dont know if you have thought about it but AHT willl accept payment direct from some insurance companies so you dont need to stump up the cash upfront.

Glad she's home now cosmic, did she like her prawns?
When i was thinking about referring one of mine to a specialist there was a 2 week wait but they would see you the next day if your vet said it was important (this was animal health trust) so if you keep worrying then do ask your vet if he can push her up the list.

I bet your glad you have insurance! I have 7k cover a year which you never think you will use until situations like Mango arise.

thats interesting about the tumer in the throat , they have dung lung thins on mango and chest xrays but nothing to do with throat and nose
they are going to do mri on her to check her skull and everything at the specialist
a bit worried now though cause we only have 3000 left on insurance till march next yr and this will have cost last night on oxigen and monitoring and she has to go to specialist and have treatment and drugs till next march on 3000 which isnt a lot , already sent 500 this yr

So Glad Mango is home
It might be worth telling your vet about Issey as all the symptoms seem the same.

Issues tumour (think they called it a polip) was somewhere near the soft or hard pallet in her throat but had started in the inner ear - sorry i am so vague but it was 4yrs ago now - (Lynn might be able to correct me). They kept thinking it was something to do with her nose too because of the closed nostrils and the gunk that kept coming down them. She had the chest xrays aswell.
The 1st Op she had was at my Vets where he sort of located it (well he said he could see something) but it was too big a job for him so thats why she was sent to the specialist.

We were lucky that Issey was insured too and the shocking thing was the Op at the special Hospital actually cost less than the treatment she had had at our Vets !!!

Hope Mango feels better after a night in the vets.

It must be a very worrying time for you.

My Issey had the same thing with breathing problems, breathing opened mouthed ans snorting through her nose hers turned out to be a tumour in her throat.
She was meant to go to Cambridge too but became so ill that she went to a Hospital in Catterham. (which was nearer and could take her the same day)

Tumour removed and never looked back since.

mangos in the vets on oxigen tonight
« Reply #1 on: August 01, 2007, 19:18:22 PM »
all lst night mangs breathing was bad again so this morn i took her to see peter our vet , he has refered her to cambridge specialist but we are waiting for appointment
he gave her steriod inject and painkiller her nostrils were vacumed and she was really struggling in breathing
i fetched her home but at 4pm she was no better so took her back in and they are keeping her overnight in case she needs help with oxigen . Shes better off there as we had a sleepless night last night and i cant get air into her and its really upsetting to see her like that , she sticks her head up and breaths throug her mouth and makes snorting noises through her nose

luna has been walking round the house crying for her for 3 hours now and finally settled down next to me , she normally sleeps with mango shes like her surigate mummy

i hope she will be much better in the morn when injections kicked in  :'(
