That is a disgrace. The oldest Cat Cats Protection ever took in was 32 yes, I do have the 3 and the 2 in the correct order. Sadly as with most things in life there are always a few Hitlers, and people who  tell HQ one thing but in reality do not do what they should do.

I've contacted my local Cat Protection centre, but they were very vague and said of course they would take them in, but made no commitment, just if I was to die the authorities would call them in.  But what if they don't?  What if the authorities put them to sleep

It really does make me annoyed when people answer the phones but do not know what they are talking about.  Available to all branches is much information and there are cards that branches can order to hand our to people to keep in their homes in the event of an emergency. Branches should also either order information from HQ about 'What will become of my cat' and pass it on the the enquirer or advise the caller to contact CP HQ direct.

The money was just a donation, though a hefty one. Would have thought they’d take both cats after that regardless of age.

Not sure who all the family spoke to, if it was just the branch or not.

The lady did leave CP a bit of money too in her will so you'd think no matter the rescue they would have taken both cats.

With our branch people do not need to leave us a penny. In reality the carer of the cats should have contacted CP HQ, however at a time of great sadness I understand why they may not thought of this. Also nowadays at CP HQ  have a large cattery, although they are always full they would most certainly put the cats waiting to come in and perhaps given them priority. HQ are not happy when branches let them down and understandably so.

It did make me realise that when its time to draw up a will (soon, have to wear down my OH) that we make full and detailed arrangements for the 3 cats.

Also make sure to be very specific in your will about your cats, a coworkers next door neighbour put that all of her cats were to go to the Cats Protection (in or nearby York), and they would not take one of the cats because it was 8 years old. So one cat went to CP and another went to a friend who offered to take the cat.

 :welcome: to Purrs, Marlowe.

The Mayhew Animal Rescue in west London also has a scheme by which 'Friends' - it is £10 per year, I think - can register to have their pets taken in if the worst should happen.  They have a no-kill policy.

And it would be lovely to hear some more about your furry family!

No, they help elderly, disabled and terminally ill people, so the last two can be of any age group. I should get something sorted though - I am actually a registered fosterer and dog walker for them.

Cats Protection will care for cats in usch circumstances and you can get5 all the details if you contact them via their site www.cats.org.uk.

The  Cinnamon Trust provides long term care for pets whose owners have died or moved to residential accommodation which will not accept pets.  Also a national network of  volunteers has been established to provide practical help when any aspect of day to day care poses a problem - for example, walking the dog for a housebound owner. A national fostering service is provided for pets whose owners face a spell in hospital.

Hi Marlowe

Someone else can correct me if I get this wrong but I believe the Cinammon Trust (sp) offer assistance.

I must read up on this myself too. I understand completely the anxiety you must feel.

How can I provide for my cats in case of my death?
« Reply #1 on: July 31, 2007, 02:25:52 AM »
I've been rerading a few of the topics on this website and I was really shocked by the story of the two cats left on their own and thrown out after their elderly human died.  As I'm alone, have no family who can help, and my few friends already have cats, I'm very worried about what would happen to my seven cats if the worst was to happen.

I've contacted my local Cat Protection centre, but they were very vague and said of course they would take them in, but made no commitment, just if I was to die the authorities would call them in.  But what if they don't?  What if the authorities put them to sleep?
That must absolutly not happen.

I found a scheme from the RSPCA  called Home For Life, but to be honest with you I know that they put animals to sleep after a month or so if nobody adopts them, so I don't really trust the RSPCA, although I'm sure they do wonderful work they don't have a no-kill policy.

I have no children and I live alone, and I'm disabled.  My cats are all my life and I bless the day I met them, each one of them.  They are my best friends, my family and I would do anything for them.  When I go, everything I own I want to go for their care, shame that it isn't as much as they deserve.
How do I go about setting them up for life?  Do I have to call in a lawyer for a decent arrangement to be made?

I know 7 is a big number, but to be honest I don't even realize they are that many, we are so close that it just feels like being part of a big family.  My vet tells me he doesn't know how can I tell one from the other (six of them are black), but it's easy, I just look at them in the eyes.  There's no mistaking their looks.

If anyone knows what is the best way to arrange for my adorable friends, in the event of something happening to me please let me know.
 :thanks:
