Just had a look on my old bank statements- to have Mango and Chutney spayed cost me £43 each!

Wow thats cheap in comparison!! (Abbey Vets in Shrewsbury-looked after my furbabes very well too)

The prices up north are higher than i thought they would be, as insurance companies are always saying london and essex have higher bills!

I get the information from CP HQ as I am a Branch Co-ordinator. The advice is printed on every batch of 25 vouchers so there should be no-one who does not know. Someone has misinformed you, the new rules came out on Feb first. Rule 3 is Eligibility. Pink and Blue Vouchers may be issued to anyone in genuine need of our financial assistance. This includes students, anyone in receipt of means-tested benefits and those reliant on pensions or low wages. However, if, in your opinion, the cat would not be neutered if we did not help, then please do issue a voucher. Our only priority is to reduce the population of unplanned, unwanted and abandoned cats in the UK.

It is also possible to pay the full cost on a Yellow voucher.

You are quite right and nowadays to get a CP voucher you do not have to be on benefits, in fact you could be a millionaire and CP will still give a voucher if it is the difference between a cat being neutered/spayed and not.

It's funny how so many people who claim they can't afford to get their pet neutered can afford holidays, tv's, the latest electronic gadget, alcohol etc.

Not tarring everyone with the same brush, but so often it's just a case of neutering the cat not being a priority.

You have it in one, so many people cannot be bothered. So many people apply for a voucher then don't use it. If after a month the voucher is not uses I always contact the owner and offer a free neuter/spay and also advise that if transport is a problem we will take the cat or more usually cats, even then few of them bother to contact us.

It is very strange how they do find out about us when their cat is heavily pregnant, or had kittens or in the case of males when it is injured possibly due to being not neutered.

Unfortunately, CP seems to be so franchised the feedback of information is probably not that good.

As a franchise is a proven methods of doing business to a franchisee in exchange for a recurring payment, and usually a percentage piece of gross sales or gross profits as well as the annual fees. I am not sure what you mean by this. CP is not a franchise and the prices I quote are the prices everyone pays. Yes we do get a small discount and a special rate for injections, but I am not daft enough to quote our prices as that would be of not use to anyone as it would not be a true representation of the real prices.

If there was such a thing as a truly nationally active cat welfare group, this would be target number one for them - get more competition between vets!

I think CP is nationally active as there are over 300 branches/shelters. I don't think there are many other rescues or even businesses nationwide with so many branches. You have to remember that in some towns they may be many vet practices (in ours 6). There is no way we could start off a price war. Yes, we do spend a lot at our vets (up to £4000 a month) but that still is only a small part of that vets takings.

CP would even be more nationally active if they could get people to volunteer to start a new branch.

Angie, the problem is that a lot of people are still unaware of CP's vouchers. Blue cross also have a similar scheme, I think.

I recently took a call from someone who had taken in loads of stray cats. She was trying to do a bit of home based rescue, but had to stop and ask for help because of a sudden disability. She'd taken a part time job to save up for neutering...

I can't remember the prices for cats but I remember our vets price for a large lady dog (not a princess!

) is about £500

We had a cat when I was a kid who ended up with stitches on both sides after a spay. At the time, my mum said it was because her insides were back-to-front

I wonder what the real reason was?

Pet Vaccination clinic does spay for about £30 - may even be less in Coventry.
Doesn't stop us having a kitten problem.
CP is also vey active as is anothr neutering scheme and people can't be arsed.

I think we should hand out a pizza voucher with every spay as an incentive!

Hi all
I find these prices startling! Cannot quite believe the difference.. Seems that spay and neuter not only being the bread and butter of vet practices but also a way to print money.. Why such a major difference.? £70 to spay a female.. horrendous!!

I know this abit off thread but one vet we use ALOT, charges us (for CP cats only) £21.00 for males and £31.00 females, he uses our chips and charges nothing for chipping them, but if you were to take you own cat in he charges 7.50, although he is more expensive on other things.. Can we add to this thread, FELV testing, as we pay between 21.00 to 28.00 for this?

Chipping at all vets about £20 at all. Spays. Cheapest £26 ( I would not take a dying flea there) then various prices (6 vet practices ) up to £40.94 Neuter Cheapest £20 the various prices up to £29.96. My vets is one of the dearest however that includes a full MOT while you wait before signing cat in. A check 3 days later to ensure all is well and 9 days after that stitches removed.

I thought it would be interesting and educational for us all to list the prices our vets charge us for routine neutering. Can I suggest you also say what part of the country you are so a geographical picture is formed?

Mine is East Kent and this is the higher end of the scale for non-rescue cases.

£35 for a Male. £49.50 for a female.

Microchipping £12
