I wouldn't be jealous of hand rearing, I really wouldn't. Although very rewarding it is a tiring task and also a worrying time as one always wonders if one is doing everything right.

Verrry tiring! I don't think I could do it all the time. I need a lot of sleep, and getting up every 2 1/2 hours is no good :( Although the OH has been good at taking turns  :Luv:

Makes me appreciate how much of a wonderful job people who do this frequently are doing.

The photos aren't great, I'll try and get some better ones later. The little one is the one who opened her eyes today :) It's so exciting hahaha.

;D Thanks Ela! I thought there was maybe something wrong. There's no discharge or anything, little healthy blue eyes  :)

That is quite normal, the oldest I have ever had eyes open is 10 days.

Just taken from net:- Kittens' eyes remain closed until, on average, 7-10 days after birth, although the age at which they open ranges between two and 16 days. When eye-opening starts, two to three days usually elapse before both eyes are completely open. Visually guided behaviour develops rapidly in the following weeks. By the end of the third week, a kitten is able to use visual cues to locate and approach its mother. Visual orienting and following develop between 15 and 25 days, while response to a visual cliff, visually guided paw-placing, and obstacle avoidance all develop somewhat later, between 25 and 35 days.

:rofl: I've got my first question already. Just went in to do a feed there and the smaller kittens eyes are open!! I didn't expect there eyes to open while they are here, but I suppose they are a week old now. I though it would be nearer 2 weeks?

Ok I'll get some pics this morning to post. It's a hard job being a foster Mummy I'll tell you  ;)

I dont think the flash would bother them too much, its not like you'll be holding the camera directly infront of them.

They are very time consuming I must admit, and no Harry Potter for me tonight :( Also at this age they are very boring and just look like cute little black blobs :evillaugh:

What would you's say about taking a picture? I think I've read before to try and cover the flash or just not use one?

Good luck with fostering them and hope you get to catch up on sleep once they're back with your mom.

If I ever get the chance to stop working I'll be fostering more younger kitties, as right now I don't think my work would like me coming in with kittens ;)

As some of you may know, my Mum fosters cats but mostly unwanted litters etc. She is going away for a few days for her and dads anniversary, so she has gave me my first litter to hand rear while she's away!

There are only 2 kittens, black, male and female. They are 6 days old, the mother kitten rejected them, killed their littermate :( She's currently still with the owners (who will be getting her spayed asap.)
I'll be at home for the majority of the days until Monday so Mum asked if I would mind :Crazy:

I have the emergency numbers etc if I need them but hopefully I'll manage :evillaugh:

I'm keeping them in my spare room, they're in a box with newspaper and blankets and a heat pad. Charlie and Missy were curious as to why they had been locked out of THEIR spare room, but they don't seem bothered now hahaha.

Anyways, I thought everyone would like to know and of course I can give you's some pictures if you's want. and any advice etc would be welcome :)
