My little Ozzy is an angel in comparison. She is always waiting at the window for when I get home, she hasn't destroyed the carpet yet, but I have put down squares of surplus carpet by her litter trays just incase she wants a scratch.
I agree kittens are seriously hard work sometimes, and when left alone for too long can go a bit crazy, went out after work one Friday night didn't get home till way past midnight, thought everything was ok, then went into the living room on saturday morning only to find an entire toilet roll shredded into millions of pieces, not the clear up job you want to do with a hang over.

I am sure she has a lot more surprises for me in the future, waiting for the first mouse, bird, next doors sunday roast to be dragged in.

A friend of mine does CP phone calls and spoke to one lady who needed to give up her kittens as they were catching birds!
And another unwanted kitten because now it has outdoor access it wees in the house. Have you got a tray? Oh no i didnt think he needed it    poor chap didnt get the time to work out soil is his new loo.

The tradegy is that this woman may well have made an excellent Mum to a golden oldie. She had given the baby all it's vacs, and had enquired about neutering but the vet had told her to wait a while. She was genuinely sorry, felt defeated, but very misinformed about kittens.

I was tempted to suggest a retired, 'lived in', spent mouser... but of course there's no way I could because she was giving up her kitten.

I know my husband would love a kitten, as I know I would, but we live in a rented house and know that our older cats have had a go at the carpet, and know that a kitten would be 100 times worse!

I've always said that whenever we either get our own place (so then at least it's our own carpets!) or whenever we decide to start a family and I'd then be at home a lot then we can look at a kitten - at the moment we're giving the golden olides a good home.

WOW! its such a shame and pretty unbelievable that some peeps conceptions of a kitten are like that....im at home all day and this goes on around me constantly......at least puss will be re-homed to someone who will have the time for him/her x

I had a day at maning the phone line for our CPL yesterday.

One caller was a very nice sounding, very polite lady who was obviously in the pits of despair - almost in tears. She wanted to know if we could rehome her cat because he's too destructive when she's out of the house. When I pressed her for further information, 'cat' turns out to be 6 months old.  Apparently this kitten has dug up the carpet so many times that it's ruined, jumped on book cases and knocked ornaments over, used the curtains as a climbing frame and shredded them. The final straw was when she came home and found a picture frame smashed. She then let out that kitten is on his own unsupervised for a lot of the day.

Well, of course we are going to help her rehome her kitten and after instructions were dealt with, I couldn't help but probe her for her expectations of a kitten if left for hours and hours. She said she'd had an 8 year old cat given to her once, and all he'd done is sleep. She hadn't realised kittens are so energetic.

I can't get cross with this lady because she obviously wants to do the right thing by little puss, but I'm sitting here thinking "How in this day and age do people not know what a kitten is like..."
