Bats are cool  8)

The best time to catch a bat is slightly after dusk. Sometimes you think they are small birds going to roost, but when you study their flight pattern you realise they aren't. Again, I used to see more bats in South Norwood, near Croydon, then i do down here. Maybe the cows scare them off?  :evillaugh:

I'm not really scared of anything (except snakes ), but a full size stag beetle always makes me treat it with respect - even though I've never seen one with a machine gun!

A proper big stag beetle flew into me once.

I'm ashamed to say I screamed - I actually quite like beetles and things, as long as they're not trying to walk up my trouser leg.

I love them, there has always been bats where i live but i'd say theres defo more of them this year, I just wish i knew where their roost was  :-:  They gather quite thickly around trees in my neighbours garden but bats dont live in trees so goodness knows.

No its just in the country they are more "natural" and have the space they need to be like this and to hide.

we're not meant to see foxes or badgers in daylight hours but like you's i seen both in gardens during my year in edinburgh, now i've lived the whole of my life apart from that year in the country, half of it on a farm and never properly seen a live badger (have seen them vaguely darting across a road at night)  Nor have a seen a fox up close (again seen them running across the hills in the distance)

THe wildlife i am enjoying just now is me bats  :Luv:  i step outside each night at bedtime just to see my little black shadowy friend flying above my garden  :Luv:  Its an extra special treat for me when i hear them clicking aswell  ;D

I agree, I had foxes in back garden in London, also squirrels eating my raspberries.

Wild life seemed to be in abundance but now in the country and never seen or heard a fox, badger, hedgehog.........nothing.

I think the natives spend all their time being scared of it and killing it  >:(

Wildlife appears in the unlikeliest of places, though, Lynn.

The last time I saw a stag beetle in full flight, I had just got off the 159 outside Lambeth town hall in Brixton. I crossed the road to Electric avenue market and there was a bloke with a Python round his neck.   :what:

Since I've moved to the 'country', I haven't seen a fox, but I used to have a family of 4 living in my garage in London.

But I do see an awful lot of sheep now.... and squawking seagulls.

I'm finding this really weird now, i've lived all my life in rural surroundings, half of it on a farm and i am used and aquainted to most creepy crawlies but i've never seen a big beetle in flight..seen smaller versions but never those larger sizes..I'm not complaining LOL but amazed i have missed this.

I prefer me bats  ;D  So many flying just a couple of feet above my head at night, i even get to hear their little clicking  ;D

I take it you've never seen a stag bettle flying, Lynn....  http://maria.fremlin.de/stagbeetles/andras/flying_aa.html  :owwww:

Tilly is forever chasing house flies. She actually caught one in her mouth once. She was so shocked, she swallowed and spent the next hour being sick...  :stupid:

I had to rescue a poor defenseless little spider from Max yesterday who seemed intent on terrorising it around the kitchen  :evillaugh:

Now I hate spiders, but still didn't want to think about it being gobbled by the Maxy Monster  :evillaugh: so I put it on a bit of kitchen towel and took it outside.

This morning all of a sudden a riot broke out in the living room fuelled with manic screaming from my daughter...I had guessed correctly and the "dung" beetle had reared its ugly black body from  under the sofa..Connor to the rescue and the creature is now outside..Phew, i thought i was going to have to unleash the dyson on it  :evillaugh:

I wondered what all the fuss and chirruping was about  :tired:

He was really funny though, stalking it and swiping it but hesitant and seemed abit afraid to just catch it..he's now guarding the sofa since it went under there and he ran from once side to the other pawing up the back to try and reach it  :evillaugh:

I'll get connor to capture it tomorrow  :evillaugh:  ( I hate them, Michael laughs when i call them "dung beetles" LOL)
