It's dead easy to run and maintain a cat chat rehoming page if you have the right gear. I know you've got a camera and probably editing software, but if you haven't got these it makes things a bit difficult as you have to wait for CC admin to do thngs for you. Pics need to be keep to a size on or below 30k. I think the problem a lot of rescues have is that fosterers don't have cameras or computers, and cats can be spread over many locations...

They run ads in the news papers as far as I know.

I get alot of enquiries through the CatChat website and I have posters up at the Vets I used to work at, which has five branches as well.  Also the Cats Protection are now passing calls on to me and I have details at our Offices.

Usually word of mouth and CC homing page.  My vets also give my number out when farmers etc are looking for feral cats.

We actually ran off word of mouth and a basic poster at the vets for years, until me and Kelly came along, the rescue lady doesn't even own a computer. We manage to home a lot more cats now than before, which is excellent as the rescue lady was wary initially.

I'm a one woman band like Dawn and also like Dawn I'm always knackered.  Just taken another three babes in less than a week old, so up every two hours to feed them and also then have to look after the other 21 resident and other 15 looking for homes.  I keep meaning to get some posts on of them, but I'm too busy for that. :rofl:

I don't have a problem with those types of volunteers, as even a couple of hours  if only occasionally can be an enormous help. However, with some people everytime you see them they are 'Gunner'  and never do or do so once and never again.

I guess even with the best intentions most volunteers have commitments but willing to do what they can, when they can. I would love to work with cats all the time but realistically have a business and home to run as well as 3 cats of my own to take care of. I do take it seriously though and will always resedule other stuff wherever possible - I hope to be "used" more than I am. I would imagine there are quite a few that think its about fussing over balls of fluff when in reality, people in the frontline are dealing with difficult people, neglected, sick and injured animals, usually with very limited finances and resources AND usually having jobs, homes & families to see to.

Reliable is the word, isn’t it?  So many people say I would love to do what your so or I will help. Very often they are gunners but rarely take aim and fire, if they do, usually they drop out after the first hurdle.

If only 10% of the people who say they will help us did, we would have more volunteers than we need.

Having spoken to Pinkbear last night, i for one need all the help i can get! But the most important point is reliable volunteers! Otherwise its just goes back to other other poor souls that are coping !! And very often you end up doing it all yourself... Impractical if you work!!!!!! I for one would liove to do this full time but cannot afford to.. I snapp up volunteers and try to work with them what they want to do... Our recent lost and found person is fab! and one less thing that we have to do.........

It hard to know what volunteers want out of volunteering some just want abit some love it and want more......the important bit is teamwork and getting on but also as in much of life to be reliable... And that even means being honest if things get to much and you cannot do it no more.........But thats just my view............

I love reliable, fun volunteers!!!!!!!!!!!!

I do know that is the case with some as indeed that was what it was like when I first volunteered, however, when I know of anyone wanting to help I am dealing with the offer within minutes of hearing.

I am an unpaid slave volunteer for the Chesterfield and District Branch of Cats protection. My roles are  Co-ordinator, Fosterer.  Homing Officer  Membership Secretary  (we have 378 members) Newsletter Editor (that includes writing about 99% of the content), Vouchers, Webmaster,   dogsbody of all trades, master of none. Of course most of the roles mean that I also deal with the hundreds of phone calls a month. Oh! and when the shop needs help I have to help there as well.

CP has 29 Adoption Centres and 260 voluntary-run Branches. The adoption centres are run by paid staff and some Volunteers where as the Branches are run by unpaid volunteers.

I always say then wrong thing the wrong way - cyber space is littered with my mistakes.  :innocent:

When I said 'badger', I meant the following - often they don't have folks to respond to you immediately. Emergencies happen. Things get forgotten in favour of more pressing needs. Wires get crossed. Sometimes they think you've been replied to when they haven't. -  It doesn't hurt to remind them you're still there, wanting to help.

It's just 'badger' was shorter.

Am I let off now...?  :Flowers:

Dawn, I'll do your trays anytime, you know that.  ;) But you'll have to FedEx them to me....  ;D

After several months of trying, today I have at last found something I can do to help... but that's not because there isn't anything for me to do - if you understand all that?  :Crazy:
