If you saw some of the pics I get from some of the fosterers, you would realize this could not be a consideration, I have to play about with some for ages. Also a write up needs to be done for each pic and while some of the fosterers have shall we say a way with words others have no idea. I think there are certain jobs in rescue that it is best left for one person to do so there is uniformity.

Also it is only to the homing officer that people contact initially, so I think it is best if that person (in our case, me) deals with the pics etc as it is all part of the homing process.

We don't very often but one of the fosterers sent me some pics so I have put them on, although we have loads more kittens in fact another 5 were born on Tuesday.

IT takes me more than 60 seconds to upload pics into photobucket sadly, and we still have to write the text for the cats as well - in fact, I can't get into my photobucket album at the moment, i even struggle at work (hence the lack of pics recently!!)

I think J20's idea is a great one, the link to the photobucket (or whatever site you choose) is always the same so that can be a permanent link on the rescue's website. Anyone with a PC (ie whoever took the pic) can then upload it to photobucket which has got to take less than 60 seconds in total. The potential owner can then view all the pics in the photobucket account.

I understand what you are all saying about time spent with cats instead of website admin but if it's a case of 60 seconds work to get massive exposure for the cat and potentially a forever home much sooner I know which one I'd choose.

We dont advertise kittens, if we have large amounts it is mentioned we have a variety of colours and sexes, but they can go so quickly it would be a waste of time that could be better spent fussing the cats.

I think it mainly comes down to time J20, i do a catchat page and it takes more time than you first think to get all the pics, edit them and posted. And in the case of kittens they would probably be gone in that time!

That is not possible as it needs to be done by the Webmaster. Also as previously advised not all fosterer's have cameras let alone digital cameras and if they are like me not too good with one anyway.

How about using Ringo, photo pic , you tube etc you can put a link on the main site and use one of the sites to host the photos that way any authorised person can put up photos to be viewd. I have done this myself before with a travel club don't think their are any laws or regulations against using these sites in this way as not strictly business

That is how it is in many parts of the country. Some rescues including CP are run mainly by unpaid volunteer fosterers who have cats in their homes (including pens in their garden). We have 8 fosterers and don't find it puts people off. The home visit usually helps to decide which foster has the most suitable cat/s for that person. Only very occasionally does a person then want to see more cats at a different fosterers.

IT is a nice thought, but not practical - we have 3 different people looking after the cats, 2 of us have digitial cameras and a computer, so can take pics and e-mail them to whoever needs them (2 websites), but the person who runs the main part has no digital camera and no computer, so photos can only be done when one of us fosterers go over, which we try and take in turns and I am doing that this weekend - but also have shopping etc to do, and a 21st to go to, so cant even guarantee they will get anywhere near the computer this weekend!! You do have to bear in mind that some of the people who help out in rescue do work full time as well, and if the options are giving a foster cat some attention, or putting a pic up to try and home them, I know which comes first in my book.

Its just i think would make things so much simpler and attract more potential homes

I would agree with Ela cos I put stuff up an Catchat and one rescue.................yes in Scotland lol..................hardly ever send any pictures and then if they do , the cats are usually rehomed before I can get em up!

Lynn have you checked the Cat chat pages in the area? Sure you must have.

It may not take long to put a pic on but even I sometimes find it difficult to find the time. Please remember that many unpaid ~~slaves~~ volunteers work full time and have other thing to do with rescue as well. Although I do appreciate that having pics on a site does help to re-home.

I find my biggest bug bear is actually getting the pics from the fosterers in the first place, not all have cameras let alone digital cameras. Often by the time you have the pics the kittens have gone. I have put another 2 new pics on today and am waiting for another 7

A girl from hubbys old work mentioned to him the other day that she is after a ginger kitten and would i know of any (nope ) I have obviously passed on the message she should set about contacting rescues before scouring the classifieds in paper.

So i set about looking at the various cpl websites in our area and some were very basic, another totally crap and non have listings or piccys of cats/kittens for rehoming. Obviously there are contact numbers etc where you can phone and presumably be told.

Having seen other branches on here plus other seperate rescues who have atleast some photos i'm wondering why they dont do that too..If they have the website in the first place it doesnt take long to add a photo surely..seems to me they'd rehome quicker if they did.

Humph..ok rant over LOL.
