I know how you feel Susieh. I only ever use the top opening part of carrier for Billy. When Billy in cattery a few weeks ago, as he was initially very upset, one of the girls suggested I leave the carrier open at the front so he could get back into it to feel secure in the pen. Needless to say, I completely forgot it was open when I collected him and only noticed just as I was leaving the cattery. If he had got out, God only knows when/if we would have got him back. He isn't called Billy Whiz for nothing.

I had to take Fred to the vets on Monday as he was not himself, turned out to be cystitis.  I was sitting waiting to be seen and noticed that a couple of the clips that hold the top and bottom of the carrier together were undone  I don't know how I missed that as he had been in the carrier for a good half an hour by this point.  Fortunately he was feeling so poorly and scared by the dogs in the waiting room that he just sat there feeling sorry for himself and made no attempts to escape.

They sound charming - best avoid their chicken kebabs as well

Thats probably where the pigeons go....

J2o if you look in the bargins section you'll see a thread about a tesco carrier. Basically just make sure its a solid make. I prefer the metal type that vets sell, great for heavy cats and top opening which is good if your new cat doesnt like being boxed  ;D
Il see if i can find a link...

Oh thats terrible  :'( I really hope the kitty ios found safe and well!

Last time Menue went to the vets to have her stitches out, I put her in the carrier, the door can be opened either left or right, I had opened it one side to get her in then some how the other side remained open so she got out! Luckily this happened in my lounge and not else where!

The one time she did do a runner, when we were having her "lady problems", she hid in a door way round the corner from me, I got her back and just as I was at the front door, she jumped from my arm, scratched my chin so that blood was pouring from it (the cut went blue and I still have a scar!), then did a massive diarrohea poo on my rug... Im so glad she has stopped peeing and pooping everywhere!!!
For a man to truly understand rejection, he must first be ignored by a cat.

Dogs believe they are human. Cats believe they are God.

No amount of time can erase the memory of a good cat, and no amount of masking tape can ever totally remove his fur from your couch.

This one from Tesco on offer @ £13.97 - loads of people on here say its the best - its normally sold as Avior for £20+

It has a "stroking hatch" and you can put a seatbelt through the loops  ;D

one woman turned up at the vets where i used to work with her cat in her arms!!! Sat under an open window and allowed the cat to crawl up on her shoulder and surprise surprise, the cat went out the window. Couldn't understand why she couldn't sue the vet for negligence - some people shouldnt be allowed out without a carer themselves...

My Dad once came home from the vets with an empty carrier, unfortunately he left the vets with our Pumpkin in it.  He didn't even notice her get out.

She was in what the vet thought to be the last stages of leukaemia so we thought we'd never see her again.  My Mum leafleted the whole town, went door knocking etc.  We had loads of calls, but she's always disappeared by the time we got round.

Two weeks later Pumpkin came back home, fit as a fiddle.  Either the vet had completely misdiagnosed her, or she'd just somehow healed herself.

My Mum has never let my Dad forget about it.

Sharons stand-in thinks it happened next door to me but isn't sure - I would leaflet if Iwas sure - their other branch is 5 or 6 miles away. I asked the man in the bookshop 3 doors away and I will ask my neighbours 2 doors away tonight when they get in to keep an eye in their garden. 4 doors away is a kebab shop and they shoot pigeons that go in their garden  >:(

I know only to well about what happens when cats escape from carriers that's exactly what happened when I was suppose to be transporting Rossi ... my advice is to get as many posters as humanly possible round the area .... push them through everyletter box and stick them to every lamppost / wall shop ... literally flood the area with them.  This little kitty will be hiding and be very frightened.

Fingers crossed it will soon be found.

If the worst had happened and she'd had an accident with a car I'm sure you'd have heard/seen something about it.

Its a shame I only just found out as I could have sent out a seachr party. There is a derelict garden behind the house next door. I will also ask my other neighbours if they have seen anything. Also I'm surprised the vet didn't bother to ask me if I had seen a strange cat around - I know all the local mogs  ;D

I will keep an eye out for it - its a busy road here  :(

I just got an email from Margaret who is covering for Sharon while she is away. A cat escaped from its carrier outside the vets on Tuesday and hasn't been seen since. I think its the vet next door to me so I wish I knew earlier - it could be anywhere by now  :'(

I know I have been guilty of using carriers with dodgy catches etc and cats seem to double in strength when they want to escape so best to check and replace if need be.
