RIP my gorgeous Silvie UPDATE .....
« Reply #120 on: December 10, 2018, 12:31:58 PM »
Sadly Silvie took a turn for the worse yesterday. I took her to the vets and she had an amoxicillin injection and steroid injection but was very congested and nose all bunged up. She didn't eat but was walking around purring but very wobbly. At 1am she collapsed in the corner of my room, was sick, just water and then just laid down completely out of it. I tucked her up in an old quilt and sat with her for an hour, she was very peaceful but breathing heavily. I dozed and then woke at 6am as heard her trying to be sick again. I held her head up, she started gasping so I cuddled her as she lay down, she twitched a few times and then went :'(. I was so hoping she was going to get better but just wasn't to be. I know she is out of pain now, and I did everything I could, have £2k worth of vet bills on my credit card but I loved her so much and she was worth every penny. Just absolutely heartbroken now and going to miss her so much. Thank you to everyone for all your good wishes :Luv:

Hi Everyone,  I took Silvie back to the vets on Monday for a check up, she just sat there, walked a little bit. Vet was very concerned, said that her priority is with the cat, not the owner and if she didn't pick up she would make the decision for me. Gave her another steroid jab and she has to stay on the Metronidazole for another week and I had to let them know the next day how she was. Fast forward 2 days. Silvie was eating for England, she must have had about 5 small tins of Gourmet pate in one day   on tuesday I realised she hadn't wee'd for a few days, was a bit concerned so rang vet, she said may be neurological, tumour in bladder, blah blah, think they are getting fed up with neurotic me! anyway massaged her belly then carried her out to the garden and she had a little potter around, then after half an hour - she wee'd!! and wee'd. and wee'd. Feline niagra falls :innocent: Since then she has been much better, although I then realised she hadn't pooed since last Thursday and her belly was getting bigger and bigger! I put katalax in her food, olive oil, massaged her belly etc. She sat in her tray a few times and tried but nothing came out. Last night I went to bed and plonked her in the tray one last time, not bothering to look. A few minutes later the smell hit me! She had done nearly a week's worth of poo and I swear she was smiling! So from a cat who was comatose last Saturday to today, where she is coming downstairs, walking round the garden, eating non-stop its little more than a miracle. She is still sneezing quite a bit. She is still on the steroids and antibiotics, I just hope they are not masking anything nasty and that the new antibiotics have helped clear any infection she may have had and I can prove the vets wrong!  :scared: :)

Thank you all. She still not eating or drinking but more alert. I have syringed some water into her cheeks about 4 times today to try and hydrate her.  :Luv: But apparently a side effect of Metranidazole is nausea, so even though I squirted a crush steroid in water into her, if she feels sick she won't eat.  :(

Well its seems like miracles do happen. I am not getting too optimistic but I woke up at 3am and looked at Silvie and from being flat out with her head right back she had moved and was sort of sitting in a better position with her head upright. Woke at 7am and she was still the same. Now she is more alert, I think she can see a bit, have squirted some water in her mouth, as well as her antibiotics and steroid crushed into water. She is def much better than yesterday but hasn't eaten yet. She is still in the dog cage but responding to my voice. Please keep sending good vibes her way :Luv2:

It's a shame my normal vet wasnt on yesterday it was her day off. I think Silvie is too far gone now to see a vet, she is stretched out in the dog cage with her head right back, just moving her front legs slightly. She is totally out of it. I had to go out and do my horse earlier, thinking when I got back she may have gone, but she is still fighting. She responds to my voice but she cant see and cant move. Its so hopeless :'( :'( :'(

Heather, is there a different vet you could see? Maybe a different practice? You don't sound confident in the one you've seen so it's worth getting a second opinion - at the very least for your own peace of mind.

Thanks everyone. She kept making growling noises during the night, hasn't eaten this morning, I didn't leave food in her cage overnight. Squirted the antibiotics in her mouth. Her head is bobbing up and down and I don't think she can see.   I sent a copy of her blood results to a friend who is a retired surgeon and he said that white blood cells and neutrophils are raised so she def has an infection. The vets said no infection (tho he was a locum). Just have to see how she goes today and will try a get a steroid in her somehow. I know if its a brain infection its very serious but a slight chance of recovery. With a tumour there isn't. Just so strange that yesterday morning she was fine, and then suddenly just had the fits.  :( :( :( :( :(
