No, just said they had to give her a tiny bit of sedation and she's come round fine, eaten her breakfast and to go to the vets at 430 to discuss what they've found, really scared, dh is going to make sure he's at the appointment

Keeping everything crossed that all goes well with Bella at vet visit today and that it is not too long before you can bring your beautiful girl back home.

It would be brilliant if it's only a matter of one pill a day.  Heart issues are so worrying but excellent news that no fluids detected around her lungs

Am trying not to worry but I think tomorrow is going to be a long day. Got to drop her at the vets at 9am and it depends if she needs sedating as to what time I can collect her

He sounds very good and proactive, everything crossed it's just a case of giving meds. In humans it would be called Atrial Fibrillation, is it the same in cats?

If it is, it is what OH has, one pill a day has sorted it out nicely.

I just want Friday over with so then I know what we're dealing with. He said there's a drug he might recommend but it'd be off licence, that doesn't worry me as such as so many drugs are used off licence. I'm just scared incase it shows something awful. Bella's happier now she's had breakfast

Well that sounds not exactly positive, but giving you a direction to proceed in, which is  reassuring of itself.  Certainly if she has the tests done, it will either rule it out, or clarify matters, and enable meds to be considered.    Do you feel better for having trusted your instinct and made the appointment?

Just home, vet was lovely, he really likes cats, and loved Bella. He gave her a full check up and said he didn't want to do bloods today as he thinks it's her heart, he said not only has she got a murmur but it goes from beating fast to slow and back again. He said there's three options 1) start her on medication straight away 2) do a full cardiac screen, scans, X-ray and stuff or 3) do nothing as inbetween episodes she's well. He said that he wouldn't recommend option 3 but he had to give it.  I told him she's far to important to our family to do nothing and that she is insured (her heart murmur was first discovered when she was already insured by petplan so we've kept her insured by them knowing they'll cover her) . So he arranged for her to go back on Friday when they have a morning free so they can get a ultrasound specialist in, to do her scans, and X-ray and if needed do bloods then as they might need to sedate for for the scans and saves sedating her twice in a week.  To try and keep her calm and quiet and if she has another episode to try and video it and time it as well. He said it all sounds bad but she's not showing signs of being unwell between episodes so that a really positive thing, she's not fluid overloaded and she's not loosing weight so it may just be that she'll need some form of medication to regulate her heartbeat

Vets at 1020, there was a 9am appointment and normally I could have dropped daughter at school 5 mins early and ran across the road to the vets. But it's daughters first day with her new teacher and she suffers with anxiety so new teacher and Bella being poorly and she's a mess so can't leave her earlier why does everything have to happen at once

Vets open in 15 mins, so getting daughter ready incase they say take Bella straight in. Bella is very grumpy this morning we decided to fast her as last time she had bloods she needed sedation and I'm positive they'll want to do some today .

It's just happened again, she got a bit giddy at feeding time and just stopped. Picked her straight up and she wasn't floppy or anything just like she was turned of, lasted a minute or so. Going to get her a vets appointment tomorrow, I know in the past if they do bloods they need to sedate her, so would you fast her just incase??? Dh normally feeds them when he goes to work at 6 but I'm thinking it might be worth holding of till I've spoken to the vets

So pleased that the weekend away was a success and that Bella was fine.   Maybe try Zylkene in Harris' food for a week or so and see if it calms him down a bit, you can also get beaphar calming spot on drops, it helped a lot with settling in my newest cat, you can get them off amazon. thanks everyone for the lovely words, we had a fab trip to london and Bella had a relaxed weekend with my dad.  Shes back to being her normal self (sleeping/eating/demanding strokes). trying to stop harris (18 month old cat) from chasing/playing with her is proving tough so am going to get a feliway plug in to help mellow them out

Well at least that puts the matter into perspective.

Our Padster had a heart murmur too, and that was manageable.  They're usually graded 1 to 6, so Bella is on the higher side of the grading, but it doesn't mean it can't be treated.

Bella is a relatively young cat, so it's natural they may want to carry out further investigations.

Heart murmurs aren't necessarily linked to heart disease - there can be other causes, but it isn't always possible to tell unless further tests are undertaken.

Wishing Bella a peaceful and sedate weekend without any incidents, and that you and your daughter enjoy your long planned for trip.

Just back from the vet, he thinks it's her heart that caused it,she has a grade 4 heart murmur. We're to try and stop her getting to overexcited and keep an eye on her. If she does it again they'll do bloods and based on those possibly refer her to a cardiologist.

It's going to be worrying for you, but for now you're doing all you can.

I suspect Bella's behaviour will have to be monitored, and unless it takes a serious turn for the worse, there's not much more you can physically do.  As Paula says, sometimes these can be a one off in the electrical wiring of the brain, as it were.

Our lovely old Tess suddenly developed fitting when she was around 5.  In her case it was triggered by over-heating - she was a beardie collie cross, with a heavy double coat.  We solved matters by keeping her clipped, and making sure so far as we could that she didn't get heat exhaustion (not easy with a dog who lived to run and play, but we managed).

It may have been the case with Bella too, if she was getting very excited.

Try not to worry.  You and your daughter deserve to have a lovely weekend, and hoping everything settles down so you can have your trip together without fretting.

Keeping all crossed.   :crossed:

Thank you both, spent most of the night awake worrying, we're meant to be going to London for the weekend tomorrow for daughters 8th birthday. My dads coming to cat sit. don't want to leave him with a poorly cat, but it's daughters birthday present so don't want to let her down either
