Oh, cats definitely know! They are much more tuned in to things that us humans have become oblivious to. And it's really wonderful to be comforted by a warm, furry friend. Poor Ruth, though...

I think they defo know when we're poorly.  Max was exactly the same when I had tonillities etc last year, and stayed curled up next to me for hours, wheras normally if I was at home during the day, he'd be running around like a nutter to get my attention  ;D

...when we are ill?

I was quite ill over the bank holiday weekend with tonsilitus and a chest infection so I spent most of the weekend in bed. Menue is normally dancing all over me trying to play when she's allowed in the bedroom, but she just sat by the bed on the floor and wouldnt get on the bed (normally she just dives straight on!). Also when I did get up to get a drink etc, she followed me... into the toilet and sat watching me... she was like my shadow...

Now I am a bit better, she just wants to sleep all day!!

For a man to truly understand rejection, he must first be ignored by a cat.

Dogs believe they are human. Cats believe they are God.

No amount of time can erase the memory of a good cat, and no amount of masking tape can ever totally remove his fur from your couch.
