My poor old Tabby who is 21 had not eaten since Christmas Eve but drinking lots, she always drinks a lot and just showed no interest in food at all. Took her to vets last night, had to go to a different branch as no vet in my normal one, the chief vet spent an hour with us, well we were the last patient of the day, he kept saying she was sooooo old but he did a blood test and we waited for results. Her WBC was 40.0 and her kidney enzymes were raised too.(around 42). He was worried about kidney failure. Also said one kidney was bigger than the other. He kept calling her Grandma too, poor Tabby was not impressed!!!
He wanted to keep her in overnight on a drip but we settled for antibiotic injection, a huge bolus of fluid under the skin as she was dehydrated and to bring her back this morning to go on a drip all day. I spoke to him this afternoon and he said she had blood in her urine, a lot, so could be an infection or something serious higher up. Not worth going down the route of xrays ultrasounds etc in a cat that age, but he did say she had eaten a mouthful of food today which is a good sign. So she is staying in on a drip tonight, had more antibiotics and will see how she is tomorrow. She is a little fighter, am hoping its just an infection and she will pull through
