Aw, that's such good news about the older ladies.  Very pleased Em.

Not so good however is the cat flu.  Nasty nasty stuff.  Wishing the kitties all the best

Fluffy was the last of the multi cat rescue to get reserved on Saturday!  :wow:

She is waiting for dental treatment with 2 of the others before she goes to her new home. A guy came in looking for 'an older cat' I showed him Ella (tortie - think names on their board must have been incorrect!) first, but then he spotted fluffy rolling around the floor through the window in the door and said 'she's the one' I thought when he found out she was 15 he might have been put off, but he said that was perfect  :Luv2:

So pleased!

Later on on Saturday Ella went too though to a lovely family.

No more admissions at the minute though due to cat flu. 5 kittens and 2 adults all in the same room suffering and needing meds, eyes cleaned and eye drops....  :(

They're beautiful.

Love the curly belly pic - Moray's is like that too, but cream coloured.  He even sometimes lets me blow gentle raspberries on that adorable belly.  Not sure I'd try it with Fluffy though.  Respect.....  ;)

I met these two 4yr old cats on Saturday. Jessie is the tortie and Ella is the grey & white. The photos arent the best as they just would not come out from hiding in the cat trees! I thought maybe they had just arrived, but had been in since Tues. I think this is how Denzel would be if she was in a rescue.

They were both enjoying being stroked, and were purring, but didn't venture out. Despite this, someone was going to offer Jessie a home until I was told they had to go together.

The last pic is of Fluffys (from the last pics) belly - look at that curly fur!  :Luv:

omg I'm sure sometimes good intention just gets out of hand at least she turned to you for help

I know at least she didn't just keep struggling on. I was suprised they are all so friendly actually, sharing one human between them!

I'm so pleased yours have come on so well Sue and that they are such good friends with Moray. I still can't say the same for Evie with Denz & Dex, she still has her moments!  :naughty:

I've been following that Emmy.  Am so glad the cats were removed, so they can all stand a good chance of being re-homed.  I particularly love the little girl I the bottom photograph - isn't she gorgeous?   :Luv2: :Luv2:  Actually, it sounds like the week has been even more hectic than usual, although with a great number of cats being re-homed at the weekend, which is fantastic news.

I look at our 3, and I feel blessed to have been fortunate enough to have adopted them.  Yes - even the gurlies, who I said would be "trubble" from the start  :evillaugh: They've become such little cuddle-bums.  When I think back to how wild they were when we first re-homed them, and how we doubted we'd ever get to the stage where we could approach them without them running for cover.  now they hop up on our knees voluntarily, and snuggle up with us on the bed at night sometimes.   :)

Malt is never far away from Moray these days when he's in.   :Luv2:  He's her hero......   Sometimes, when he exits the flap, she's hanging on to the door for dear life, trying to pull herself up to peer through the glass.  Time enough for them when they're chipped and neutered.  Am dreading the prospects of letting them out when the warmer weather comes.

So, a lady contacted the Ark as she was living in a 1 bedroom flat and had 20 cats and couldn't cope with them anymore. She had aquired a lot as strays and some had been pregnant. She only had 1 litter tray for all of them tho......

The Cat & dog shelter took 4, a neighbour of hers took a 21yr old, and I think she is keeping 1 or 2. They are aged 4weeks to 17yrs old, and are all friendly, although some are a little shy.

The top pic is of them in the flat
The seond is Fluffy who is 15 and has no teeth
The third is Wooly who has 4 kittens. I am sure she has some Maine Coon/ Norwegian Forest in her with those fluffy ears and she has fluff on her feet too. She desperately needs fattening up a bit. If you look in the background you can spy a kitten or two!  ;)

I know! That cat was super confident!  :evillaugh:  I was there two of the days, poor Magenta did the food all 3 days, bless her, it was chilly! The last day wasn't as successful tho.

Afew homings, a lot of people looking for kittens who went away empty handed as they are in short supply at the minute. Some interest in setting up feral trap, neuter, release/ rehome groups for different areas. Donations, funds and awareness raised.

A pic I took of the cat

Good to see the weather has stayed dry for the open days between Christmas and New Year.  And that delightful little black and white cat, checking out the stalls  :wow: :evillaugh:  Truly catering for everyone.  Well done everyone at Westgate Ark.   :)

Oooooooooooooo they are like a pair of Tortie Hoolies  :Luv2: :Luv2:

I hope they get a home together.................maybe Andrew would.......................no I dont think so his have already tried to kill him !

I saw a programme on TV a few years back from abroad where british vets had gone out to help neuter loads of feral cats and kittens, cant remember what country but they were doing the kittens at a few weeks old if I remember correctly.

yes I think it did start in the US but have heard of more charities here doing it so that when they rehome they know there won't be any issues with the owners getting them done - does seem a shame about the socialisation though, that's the best bit!

I think the national charity just rang & asked if we could take them. Paul often gets calls from charities/ rescues asking if there is any room. They probably know he's a soft touch and has a big problem saying 'no'! I have no idea what happened to the mum.

I have heard of them doing it that young in the US, but not here. I suppose it makes sense if it is safe, especially if they are ferals. Their fur was already starting to grow back a bit too, so not sure exactly how many weeks they were 'done' at. They must have been at that particular charity for a little while and they just thought they couldn't help either to rehome them or spend the time socialising them  :(

how did they end up at the ark?  very cute, as you know I do love a torti - I thought early spaying was becoming quite common now?

When I went into the Ark last Saturday, the 'manager' said 'come and have a look at this, I've never seen anything like it!'

Well I didn't know what to expect  :shify: In one cage were these two 8week old kittens from 'a national charity.........' already spayed and had their ears tipped. He was shocked by the fact they had been spayed so young, but more upset that they had been given up on so quickly.

After only a week of intensive handling Harleys kittens were just like 'normal' kittens. You would never have guessed they had no human contact since they were born.

Paul put them on facebook and there was an ignorant comment about how tipping ears on a cat was the same as cropping a dogs ears which is illegal  :-: obviously someone who doesn't have a clue wot they are talking about!

They are two very pretty girls tho  :Luv:

Thought I would share some more pics I had taken.

This is Rosie Lee, how I found her when I walked into her room on Sat - she looked so sad  :(

She had picked at her spay sutures and it had got infected, so she had to have a course of antibiotics, staples put in and a cone of shame  :(

She hated it - every time I went for a cuddle she tried to roll her head over but couldn't! She went to her new home earlier this week  :narna dance:

Westgate Ark pics
« Reply #1 on: November 12, 2015, 13:00:03 PM »
I trapped my first cat last Saturday!  :wow:

There was a mother and 3 kittens living in a workyard. There was a shelter from the rain for them, but it was pretty exposed and bits of wood everywhere (I think they design playgrounds)

The yard was locked, and I met a lady there to let me in - it was freezing and pouring down with rain.

We saw the mum pretty quickly, but she gave me a glare and a hiss  >:( so I set the trap and we sat in our cars to let her to investigate it. Within 5 - 10 mins she was in. Very stressed and desperate to get back out. I transfered her to a crush cage and covered it over to keep her calm, and put her in the car while we set the trap again for the kittens.

There was a tabby, B&W, and a ginger. We waited a bit longer, but they were having none of it! I left the trap with the lady as the kittens were eating wet food and were old enough to be without mum (8-10 weeks from what I could guess as they ran under the 'floor'

When the mum (Harley) got to the Ark we left her to settle in the cage for a bit first and she is actually very sweet. Obviously has been someones pet, but no microchip.

Some pics - she's very pretty  :Luv2:

I'm not sure when the kittens got caught, but I volunteered to go back over on Tues with some tuna, but they were all safe in the rescue - quite feral, but apparently getting used to being cuddled!
