No problem, I'm slightly addicted to etsy so use it all the time. There are some great cat products on there.

For Etsy, you click on an item to view, the shop name will show above it e.g 'TuxandTabby', you click on the shop name. Scroll down and on the left hand side under shop owner will be a link saying 'contact the shop owner'.

Gill, am not sure, but I think from having had a squint at Etsy, I typed in "Cats" in the search bar, and then selected a seller at random.  There was a box on the right hand side which said "Ask a question" and I think that pulls up an email address, or not quite an email address but a means by which you can communicate with the seller.  Be sure to select UK only for the seller selections, otherwise there could be postage issues.

Hope that helps

Do you knit catnip toys Souffle?

No I knit the cats that you hand on your tree as a Christmas Ornament judecat. I usually do a personalised one for someone and a couple of preknitted ones. I'm having some eye issues just now so haven't got started yet this year. I have developed loads of floater things which are taking a bit of getting used to. The optomotrist says there is nothing to worry about and my eyes are getting older but it is a worry.

Yayyyyyy looking forward th these  ;D ;D ;D ;D

Thanks for voting.    As you can see from the posts in here it is a hard decsion and one I certainly did not want to make. I didn't want to be the person to upset anyone (you know i am a right soft ass! lol )  hence left the full decision to the members. Sadly the posts re who should get the auction were started before we had a chance to decide and already there was conflict.   I am sorry but it wasnt fair for me and Gill to take the brunt of this.

The auction therefore this year will go to Lost Cats Brighton as per the majority vote.

Sadly, I haven't been able to do alot of sponsor work this year so I am soo very gratefull to all that have helped and contacted sponsors for us.  :thanks:

I think the auction will be a more smaller one than in previous years but any money raised is better then none to help the needy babes that are not so lucky as our own.  It's for them purely we do this  :ahh:

Soooooo   I will this week pop up the new 2015 auction section and ususal instructions etc and of course pop the xmas hat on our Purrs icon  ;D

Good Gowd I mentioned the "c" word !!!!!!

I really hope that we can rtaise as much as possible for the needy babes   :Luv: :Luv: :Luv:

Thanks so much everyone

It is spoiling it for sure but the only way is forward. What is done is done and we cannot waste time looking backwards. The membership has decided.

Only 20 votes, not many.

The only way may be forward, but to where?  I'm not sure.

I have to say I avoided this thread because of the way the tone was going, but the auction is run voluntarily, in our own time, with the generosity of donors, sponsors and members. It isn't a right, but involves a lot of hard work from many like minded people for a good cause. To be bluntly honest, if I am staying up late, giving hours of my own time (on top of work/cats/life) I want to know a bit about the cats that benefit. Selfish I know, but I like to know where the money has gone, and don't think a monthly update is too much to ask. Both charities still benefit from the purrs draw monthly as well as big bertha.

I don't see why the idea of a postponement is so abhorrent given the request for updates and that, as above, they still benefit in some way. As a larger charity, I would question whether ycr would feel the benefit of a split auction.

Hopefully a decision can be made and we can return to the excitement of the auction gear up.  :shy:

Well according to Gill, Ron's won't feel the benefit of a split auction either.  Which doesn't make me feel small donations are worthwhile.

I'm sick of this anyway...

Why are people constantly ignoring the facts on here that this was promised to Yorkshire cat rescue?  There shouldn't have even been a poll or any doubt about it!  I hate this way of going on.  People telling others they can have something, and it not happening.  YCR was accepted into Purrs as all the others, whatever size they are.  Of course, the bigger the rescue the more cats to look after.  They all need money.

If its going to a rescue of that size then I probably won't take part in the auction and the goods I have got will be donated to local rescues here in Aberdeenshire and one in Angus that we support as they take the time to keep their social network up to date and yes we all work and have health issues and lives outside rescue as well as being available 24/7 to help where we can

Also as a big bidder I won't be joining in or advising some of the original member of the auction -they come and bid big as well sorry but if they have shops and rehome that many cats a year they have a good financial income - I have friends who are a registered charity and have 3 shops that keep them in what they need and they do things like horses and wildlife as well as cats and dogs and have large vets bills as well

I will of course speak to my Rep at RC to advise what I propose to do and advise accordingly

As I said earlier if Ron is awarded the auction the money will be directly for the cats, vet bills, food etc , it is nothing to do with the building fund.

I have to agree with what Liz has said and Ron is a very small independent rescue, a one man band supported by a small group of volunteers and always in desperate need of funds for the vet bills alone.

He does not have the resources of Yorks who are huge and do a great job but right now he has cancer and is not a young man and the auction for him could be the difference of the rescue going under or just getting by  and the amount of money does matter cos £500 would maybe pay one vet bill and more would could obviously do more.

Its never an easy decision to say who will get the money and I have always thought its so sad that we only raise a relatively small amount in terms of cats needs but its the best we can do and has grown over the last few years.

This year we have problems just running the auction and for us this year  its  harder than any rescuer posting once a month.

Like rescuers we are of vastly differing backgrounds, ages, parts of the country but have come together by our love of cats. Many are disabled or sick but we try to do our best.

The poll looks pretty conclusive to me and after all its the members who come on Purrs who put their money into the auction and think its only fair this year that they make the choice............this is never done lightly and Tan and I have always thought about this deeply but members do not usually get any input. This year we are faced with a small rescue in difficulty versus a massive rescue who may have to trim a few corners and have facilties etc that only Ron could dream of .

I am not going to post on this topic any more as Tan must be making her decision and have to do some other auction related work.

I’ve been thinking about this.

It’s my understanding that Yorkshire Cat Rescue (YCR) are the next in line for auction funds, as discussed in this thread http://www.purrsinourhearts.co.uk/index.php/topic,45177.msg811400.html#msg811400

That's it in a nutshell for me.

Playing devils advocate most rescues have a high social media and forum presence as this helps them stay in the public eye and raise awareness and keep them in the public eye

I also have vets bills in 4 figures every month of the year and we do it on our own in fact I look after 70 odd cats every day of the year on my own and still try to keep on top of the Clans social media, I also have 4 on borrowed time and have lost 5 cats and 1 kitten this year as well as working and having diabetic and hyperthyroids so know the monthly costs involved

All rescues are under pressure emotionally and physically and of course financially but those that take the time to post and let us know how they are getting on it takes a couple of minutes and even with all his health worries and the potential loss of his rescue hasn't stopped Ron posting

When it comes to the amount of posting from supported rescues I think the reply from YCR posted by Souffle explains the problem much better than I could.  Most rescues now have their own website and some sort of presence on social media.  That’s a lot of updating that needs to be done by voluntary workers and YCR are not the only rescue that are not regular posters on Purrs.

While I totally understand the desire to support LCB, their immediate need is a building fund rather than a cat welfare fund.  I’ve therefore voted for YCR to benefit from this year’s auction.  Perhaps we could look at a separate one-off fundraiser for LCB’s building fund some time in the new year?

I have had a message from Yorkshire Cat Rescue and the founder asked me to post this for your information. I live in Yorkshire and have supported them so I think only fair they have some input while Sammeul is unable to post.

The person from here who has posted on "Purrs ...." in the past is our centre manager, Sam (I think her user name is Sam Mewl).  She has log on details.  Unfortunately at the moment she is having to do jury service so it has put a huge amount of pressure on us to have her away. I can't guarantee she will have time to post.

She normally works 5 days a week and often stays late to finish, and as far as I'm aware most of the posting she does on forums such as Purrs is in her own time, and I can't insist that she posts in her own time.

If you would be so kind as to post some of the information below, that would be great.

We rescue and rehome almost 900 cats per year, and we are run ragged both caring for the cats and fundraising to do so.  We have had some terrible terrible illnesses and conditions with the cats this year, many multi-cat households with very sick and very scared cats and we have been working like mad to try and help them (and succeeded).  We've recently spoken to staff at a local council in their housing department to try and get the people who don't like cats to intervene and help before things get out of hand (the cat lovers already do!).  But this will probably mean a massive increase in the number of cats we will end up taking - many of these households end up with in excess of 15 cats and sometimes over 20  or 30!  We have had a large number of untamed kittens and though we have worked with them and turned them round so that they can be rehomed with families rather than as ferals (there aren't that many feral places anyway) it has put a further strain on us and on our fosterers.

We can't afford a dedicated fundraiser and though we have recently opened a couple of shops and they are helping out, we have to raise the rest of it ourselves.

Perversely this makes it harder for us to join in on forums such as Purrs, as we are so busy fundraising and raising awareness that we don't have time to make regular posts.  There are quite a lot of forums for one thing or another and we just know we don't have the resources to utilise them as we would like to.  The same applies to social media such as Facebook and we wold love a presence on Instagram, PInterest and others but we don't have the resources to manage this properly.

It seems unfair of us to just put a quick thank you and not much else, but having said that we do value any money raised and of course the awareness of our charity by visitors to the forum.  At the moment we don't even have the time/resources to find the time to advertise our cats on catchat - we have to rely on our website (which is updated from our database) and our fosterers posting on Facebook and other social media.  We would love to have volunteers who could post knowledgably about us on forums such as Purrs, but they simply don't exist!!  If anyone volunteers to do things like that we grab them and tie them to a chair!!

To give some illustration of numbers, our vets bills since April (when our financial year begins) have averaged at just under £8,000 per month.  We neuter all the cats, and vaccinate them and microchip them and we also treat them for worms and fleas and any other stuff they need - dental work and obesity being two of the more common ones, but we also have a kitten with diabetes, a cat with terminal cancer and have had a dwarf kitten (who sadly died a few weeks ago).  We also support sick cats in their new homes so that the cats can get homes and not spend their lives in a pen.  We have several geriatric cats on our books (in new homes), a cat with diabetes and a cat with epilepsy to mention a few.

I understand that the decision remains with the members who post regularly.

Ah well, looks like we're not getting the split now.

This one needs the wisdom of Solomon, but hopefully, the Auction will be a success, and needy cats will benefit, whatever the outcome.
