The Fantastical Welsh

Once upon a time there were five cats. Their names were Li'l Mom, Tiny Tig, Claude, Lucy Goose and Pierogi.

Li'l Mom is mummy cat, she and her kids Tig, Claude and Lucy all lived with her in a garden in London town. There was a nice American lady who fed them every day and sometimes let them all sleep in her kitchen when it was cold.

Li'l Mom couldn't jump very high so she stayed in the garden but the kids could roam where they wanted, and so they did, and got themselves into all sorts of bother with the neighbours, especially when it came to toiletting!  :evillaugh: They got away with it for years and years and the family thought it was a great life.

Then about a year ago, a ginger boy turned up and also made himself at home with the American lady. He called himself Pierogi, which he thought was very swish, but they all knew meant "dumpling". They liked Pierogi and he became their friend. But Pierogi also liked to fight and wee up walls which was quite smelly and bad manners.

One day a man came wearing a uniform and told the nice American lady she wasn't allowed to keep cats in her house, or feed them in her garden because they were a nuisance. The Lady was very upset because she loved Li'l Mom and her kids and Pierogi, but she had no choice. The American Lady called all her friends to ask if they could take a cat, or two, but Li'l Mom and her kids had never been taught how to be nice to humans, so no-one would help. The American Lady then found out about Cats Protection, and although she didn't want the cats to be taken away she didn't want to be evicted either and found the courage to make the call.

The nice man in the blue shirt went to collect Claude and Lucy, Li'l Mom and Tiny Tig. "They are a bit wild" he told the American lady "but we will find a nice place where they can be happy forever". The four cats went to see the green people who said they were all very beautiful and didn't need operations, and when they felt better they all went to live in a warm comfortable summerhouse with lovely food and they could all talk to each other from their separate bedrooms.

Meanwhile, Pierogi was next in line. The American Lady was very sad to say goodbye, and she gave the lady in the blue shirt a nice hug and some money for helping the cats. Pierogi had a bit of a shock that day, when he went to see the green people, I can tell you! However, Pierogi was able to talk to humans, as he had lived with them before, and he told them he was a nice friendly cat who would quite like to live in his own house with a garden and lots of other cats for friends. So the blue people arranged for him to go and live in the showroom where he could meet some nice people like the American lady and choose one to live with.

One day the lady who owned the summerhouse came to talk to Li'l Mom and the kids. She asked if they'd ever heard of chickens? And would they like to go and live with some in a place called Wales? Well, the summerhouse was nice and warm but it was a bit boring... chickens sounded like fun so they all nodded in agreement and so it was arranged.

Very early last Sunday morning, the blue lady put Li'l Mom, Tiny Tig, Claude and Lucy Goose into boxes and they went for a long, long drive. It seems to go on forever! But eventually they came to the end of a long track and the blue lady helped them into a new summerhouse. A man with welliebobs and a big friendly smile had built the summerhouse just for them, and it was perfect! Lots of room to stretch and windows to look out from, and a little door that the man said they could use when the rain stopped (he mentioned something called "summer" and laughed out loud!).

The blue lady went away and WellieBob looked after Li'l Mom and her kids forever and ever. They learned how to use the little door, and looked after their new friends the chickens. Pierogi was renamed Dumpling and chose a lovely human who thought looked a lot like the American Lady. He too lived happily ever after.

The blue people would like to say thank you to their supporters who make these stories happen in real life, allowing the wages of the green people to be paid, the travelling expenses and the fostering costs to be met, the overheads at the adoption centres to be met and for becoming the WellieBobs as told in this story, the adopters themselves.

Thank you, folks.  :thanks:

The big black lad isn't Electro-Boy, it's another massive fur kid affectionately known as Sweetie Pie and weighing in at s whopping 7.1 kgs.

The stripey lad is Churchill, below him is the fantastic Sweetie Pie. Churchill is a local lad who fell on hard times and found himself scrounging for grub in the house next door to Kato, one of my personal rescues from 3 years ago (remember Kuki? Her brother). Churchill wasn't neutered or remotely pleasant to any sense, but has come round just lovely for having a few days RnR in the summerhouse. He's lucky, he's FIV negative.

Sweetie Pie is just adorable, but enormous. Similar story to Churchill except he'd found a single human who was able to feed and care for him, but she was an elderly lady and need to move in with her daughter, so Sweetie Pie needed help. Unfortunately he has tested +ve for FIV so we're waiting for the lab check, then he will find a special forever home.

And Claude, Oskar, Azreal and Cleo

Claude's tale is in the Fantastical Welsh above.

Oskar was one of two 6 month old kittens we'd set out to catch in November, never found them (nor did we get offered a cuppa or even a dry place to shelter from the rotten family who asked us to come and fetch them). Turned out the neighbours three doors down had built a shelter for them, so eventually we picked them up and they were half way socialised. Effie (not pictured) was instantly the focus of our vet nurse's attention and the two were never again to be separated. Oskar came to live with me for a week to learn the social skills of litter training and Dweemies. He's now with the adotion centre and won't be there for long as he warmed up really nicely.

Azreal was abandoned, believed pregnant, and saved by the local midwife. She called us, the rest thankfully, our vert could help with as her pregnancy turned out to be a bad case of worms.

Then there's tiny Cleo who was brought in to the vet by a strange man who claimed to have found her in a box, but the box was nowhere to be seen, she was in his coat pocket. A little scared and very hungry, all Cleo needed was some TLC and a new home was found for her very quickly, as you'd expect from some a charming kitten.

Been too long since I dropped by, here are some of the reasons why...

Victor, Lucy Goose, Tiny Tig and Li'l Mom.

Victor was handed in by a young mum who couldn't cope with him. He'd been taken from his family too young and therefore had no idea he was hurting people with his claws. This led to the children disliking and, to a certain extent, abusing the kitten. Victor needed training, that's all. We provided that, and the learning needed by his lovely new owners to maintain his manners.

Lucy Goose (black and white), Tiny Tig (tortie, white flash) and Li'l Mom (tortie) all appear in the real life story above, the Fantastical Welsh.

The fabulous Electra only slipped once, since then she's been using the tray like a good'un. She's in for her spay today (we hope) and back to me for Daddy cuddles until the weekend when she will go to her foster carer (the amazing Emma who looked after the litters from Leia and Whiskey for us) until her 14 days are up. Then she'll be available for rehoming.

We've been busy, yes, this week we've collected 4 ferals (Little Mom, Tiny Tig, Lucy Goose and Claude) and another stray (Sweetie Pie, who is so beautiful he could be Electra's brother), booked in another 3 strays for trapping and are now at the point where we've stripped all available vet appointments until next Tuesday! Guess it's time to switch off the phone and take a breather.

Committee meeting tonight - first one of 2017 where I unveil the new plan (well it's the old plan with a bit of extra fundraising and education bolted on), and give everyone a big pat on the back from being superb last year. They seriously were and have hit the ground at 100 mph this year!

You wanna go faster? I can't hear you! YOU WANNA GO FASTER???  :wow: :wow: :wow:

Beautiful Electra.  I do hope she has no Greek proclivity for revenge.   ;)
Well she isn't litter trained as I just found to my horror.

Bless she's such a friendly little thing, one of four cats that have been living since kittenhood in the grounds of a care home. All delightful animals but have never been confined, so litter trays are foreign to them.

We've set off strongly this year, already the names Plato, Quaxo, Maurice, Electra, Victor, Daisy-Mae, Bill Bailey and Florrie have been taken so we're ploughing through the auction list. Added to these are the cats who have come in form private owners for rehoming - a new workstream for us as we haven't previously has the resource or availability to help in this way.
Little lives Mister Kitty, Trinity, Misty, Chinky and Sammy are the better for it.  :Luv:

Trinity was removed from a drug addict who was being evicted from his council property, poor little guy was living in a flat cooped up with three grass smokers, and still has that smell in his fur. It took him a few days with me to detox but is coming around. We've sent him out on trial to an elderly gent who lost his cat before Christmas and seemed quite keen to help with Trinni's recovery :care:

Chinky and Sammy were brought in together, their owner was going into hospice care. Lovely cats but Chinky was so overweight at 8Kgs we were convinced he had underlying issues, but no, just fat due to being housebound and fed on Go-Cat! We cleaned their teeth and they've now been found a home where they can remain together and have their diet monitored.  ;)

Misty was an abuse case, bless her. The owner's partner was upset because the cat stopped using the litter tray and threw her out. When speaking to the owner it became apparent there have been similar experiences with the other humans in that house, so was relieved to get Misty out of the picture for her own safety. Hopefully this will calm the situation somewhat and allow the humans to sort out their problems.  :(

Mister Kitty was a strange tale, but to cut a long story short he was an abandoned oversized kitten who needed to be rescued. We did, and he's gonna be just fine.   :)

Very sad to hear of the death of Ron Ayres from Ron's Lost Cats, Brighton. A true hero in the cat rescue world and one of my real inspirations.  :'(

God's speed to The Bridge Ron, there will be many happy faces to greet you. RIP.

Beautiful Electra.  I do hope she has no Greek proclivity for revenge.   ;)

Long overdue update  :innocent:

Deejae went to her forever home just after Christmas and is doing great. The last of the abandoned kittens, Splodge, was also despatched with great excitement to his new posh home in Broadstairs! Pudding, the teeny one, is very likely to be going nowhere as her loving fosterer Ruth has succombed to her charms  :Luv:

Here it's been mad, as usual, but unusually with rehoming cases - our adoption centre is eerily quiet for this time of year so we've been able to help some folk relocate their unwanted pets to pastures new.  :) Three came in last week, two of  whom were bonded males, 7 years old needing dental treatment and blood tests as one was particularly overweight, but they're fine and have gone up for adoption. Two more are scheduled to come in today for medical checks and rehoming.

I've three semi ferals booked in for neutering on Monday, trapping to be arranged for this week. The summerhouse is scrubbed ready for action. It's lovely and toasty in there now since Mr Fabulous put the proper pens in, but I'd still like a bit more draft proofing.

The Tuftyclub. however, are on sad watch tonight as we wave goodbye to Pursley, our beloved Grand Mama. See you at The Bridge, my love. xx
