The Fantastical Welsh
Once upon a time there were five cats. Their names were Li'l Mom, Tiny Tig, Claude, Lucy Goose and Pierogi.
Li'l Mom is mummy cat, she and her kids Tig, Claude and Lucy all lived with her in a garden in London town. There was a nice American lady who fed them every day and sometimes let them all sleep in her kitchen when it was cold.
Li'l Mom couldn't jump very high so she stayed in the garden but the kids could roam where they wanted, and so they did, and got themselves into all sorts of bother with the neighbours, especially when it came to toiletting!
They got away with it for years and years and the family thought it was a great life.
Then about a year ago, a ginger boy turned up and also made himself at home with the American lady. He called himself Pierogi, which he thought was very swish, but they all knew meant "dumpling". They liked Pierogi and he became their friend. But Pierogi also liked to fight and wee up walls which was quite smelly and bad manners.
One day a man came wearing a uniform and told the nice American lady she wasn't allowed to keep cats in her house, or feed them in her garden because they were a nuisance. The Lady was very upset because she loved Li'l Mom and her kids and Pierogi, but she had no choice. The American Lady called all her friends to ask if they could take a cat, or two, but Li'l Mom and her kids had never been taught how to be nice to humans, so no-one would help. The American Lady then found out about Cats Protection, and although she didn't want the cats to be taken away she didn't want to be evicted either and found the courage to make the call.
The nice man in the blue shirt went to collect Claude and Lucy, Li'l Mom and Tiny Tig. "They are a bit wild" he told the American lady "but we will find a nice place where they can be happy forever". The four cats went to see the green people who said they were all very beautiful and didn't need operations, and when they felt better they all went to live in a warm comfortable summerhouse with lovely food and they could all talk to each other from their separate bedrooms.
Meanwhile, Pierogi was next in line. The American Lady was very sad to say goodbye, and she gave the lady in the blue shirt a nice hug and some money for helping the cats. Pierogi had a bit of a shock that day, when he went to see the green people, I can tell you! However, Pierogi was able to talk to humans, as he had lived with them before, and he told them he was a nice friendly cat who would quite like to live in his own house with a garden and lots of other cats for friends. So the blue people arranged for him to go and live in the showroom where he could meet some nice people like the American lady and choose one to live with.
One day the lady who owned the summerhouse came to talk to Li'l Mom and the kids. She asked if they'd ever heard of chickens? And would they like to go and live with some in a place called Wales? Well, the summerhouse was nice and warm but it was a bit boring... chickens sounded like fun so they all nodded in agreement and so it was arranged.
Very early last Sunday morning, the blue lady put Li'l Mom, Tiny Tig, Claude and Lucy Goose into boxes and they went for a long, long drive. It seems to go on forever! But eventually they came to the end of a long track and the blue lady helped them into a new summerhouse. A man with welliebobs and a big friendly smile had built the summerhouse just for them, and it was perfect! Lots of room to stretch and windows to look out from, and a little door that the man said they could use when the rain stopped (he mentioned something called "summer" and laughed out loud!).
The blue lady went away and WellieBob looked after Li'l Mom and her kids forever and ever. They learned how to use the little door, and looked after their new friends the chickens. Pierogi was renamed Dumpling and chose a lovely human who thought looked a lot like the American Lady. He too lived happily ever after.
The blue people would like to say thank you to their supporters who make these stories happen in real life, allowing the wages of the green people to be paid, the travelling expenses and the fostering costs to be met, the overheads at the adoption centres to be met and for becoming the WellieBobs as told in this story, the adopters themselves.
Thank you, folks.
