We quite often find all black cats hereabouts, I'll keep you in mind next time a friendly one comes in MadLilli. xx
The 5 cats were across two different sites and no, we're getting good at trapping now and have our little tricks that make it quite a simple operation (of course having the correct equipment is a massive boon! Thanks to our generous supporters for supplying much of that!)
So, Bib and Bob the two kittens have found a wonderful foster home in Colchester where they will be socialised and rehomed; their Mum Whisky and Dad Bobby have been neutered and returned to their lovely feeder, Cindy, who had been up chasing Tom cats away from Whisky for weeks... poor woman was at the end of her tether and is so grateful for our help.
The stripy kitten Harriett Houdini (she escaped from her crate) has also found a home. Sid and Nancy the two black ferals (and I suspect Minty's parents) were neutered (Nancy was pregnant again, we got to her in time this time) and they've been returned to their feeder Laura.
It's been a wholly satisfying week on the TNR front, this feel-good factor has kept me going through what has otherwise been a sad week.
The dark tabby female Bella whom I caught last week who had been living rough under a car, she was in a hell of a state, the vet checked her she turned out to be an older girl with not pregnant but suspiciously lumpy tummy and heart murmur.
I decided to keep her here to see if she improved. "Bella" came indoors where she could get warm and she quickly cuddled up next to me, but spontaneously lashed out a couple of times, understandable, of course after her ordeal, however this unpredictable behaviour made her a poor candidate for rehoming. She might have been fine once her condition stabilised, though, so we persevered. Sadly she took a turn for the worse last night when her hind legs began collapsing under her. I took her back to the vet this morning, her heart was failing and the prognosis was not good. We decided the kindest result for her was pts.
It's the sad, heartbreaking side of cat rescue, sometimes there's simply no alternative.
I'm sorry we couldn't save you Bella, we did what we could and you knew warmth, good food and love in your last days. RIP little one.
This coupled with the sad loss of my own darling Elsa Dolly this morning
has left me longing for the end of January.
Happily with my birthday coming up I'm looking forward to a few days away with hubby to enjoy some time off from the pressures of work and cat rescue.
Back mid Feb with updates - the good work continues with the fab Tad and the team from Waltham Forest Cats.
