That's great news Sheila!

I think I asked previously whether you have an Amazon wish list, but I don't remember the answer  :-[ It would be great if you do have such a list, it will make it easier for us to support you  ;D

Sheila this is all such positive news.   ;D. I have a feeling that eventually you may be able to make ends meet for the Tuftyclub without compromising too far.  And when you love what you do, and do what you love, life has a way of opening doors you previously thought shut.

Am certainly cheering you on from the guidelines.  Go Sheila!!!

So pleased for wee Pirate!

We've had another bumper week here at Waltham Forest Cats, three cats rehomed and one heavily pregnant female moved into rescue. Not least was our latest meeting with the lovely Vicky, our new CP branch development manager, who traveled down from Oxford to give us the good news that "Waltham Forest Cats Protection" will be launched formally on 1.4.16!

April Fools day for some (and Sly da Sly's buffdy) but a new hope for us.  ;D

I may need your support going forward my friends, we still need to orchestrate foster places and fund-raise, and your continued support is much appreciated. However now we have the backing of a nationally recognised charity to find us some more volunteer pals to bolster our local resources, that, for us, is invaluable. Our ferals will be sorted, our sick and injured cats treated, and our kittens rehomed.

I couldn't be more pleased, and more scared as I still need to work full time to make ends meet for the Tuftyclub, which will seriously impact on my free time, but hey, I know you will all understand when I don't post quite so frequently.

I promise I will send regular pics and updates on this thread, you are my inspiration and my rock, I thank you Purrs Pals, with all my heart.  :Luv: :Luv: :Luv:

Please wish me luck, it was this forum that inspired me, I'm relying on you to keep me and my pals invigorated.   :wow:

Little Pirate update, I got my first cuddle yesterday :yayyy:, he was a very brave boy and actually came out from the computer desk where he sleeps by day to investigate my friend Heidi, first time she has been round since I got him. He and Pippa are now the best of friends and they sound like a herd of elephants charging up and down the stairs chasing each other :evillaugh:, he and Emo bump noses, Bob is coming round and has gone from full out growls to occasional hisses. Not bad for a week ;D, he loves his fusses until he remembers he is rufty tufty and 'kills' my hand , so all good, second jab in a couple of weeks time, but he was good in the carrier for Sheila, many thanks for bringing him all the way down to Worthing. :Luv2:

Well it's been a very happy week here in da Forest.

Firstly we are very proud to announce the adoption of young Pirate to our own Judecat, a truly perfect angel  ;D

And then there;s the rehoming of Blind Harry whose plight came to our notice a couple of weeks ago but is now fully fit, dentistry sorted and with his new Meowmi.

And then there's Dawn, she suffered a medical issue last summer that prevented her taking Fuzz (who I kept!) but she's better now..and we found her purrfect partner! A teeny single black kitten in need of love love love.

And then there's Boris, a stray injured boy we have taken in and arranged to be added to the adoption centre books. Yaaayyy!

Aside from this we've neutered two more cats (one was female in early pregnancy) and rehomed one boy Paddy who was an abandoned stray that had tagged on to a local colony.

In all, I think we're doing OK.

Huge thanks to all our follower and supporters. Please, take a bow!   :thanks: :thanks: :thanks:

Posting for a possible transport run from here to Stoke/Stafford area.

Picked up a little blind boy this evening who was taken to a vet quite close by but no other rescue had space or would help. The vets have been amazing, fixed his teeth, blood tested, sorted out his appealing diarrhoea etc.
Luckily I've found someone who specialises in blind cats but need to get him up there....  :shify:

And whilst we are on the subject of heroes, take a bow Judecat. I'll let her explain.....  :wow:

Phew, that was a day out! 300 miles and a headache later, All 5 cats and kittens delivered safely with a bright future ahead of each one. Love those cat people who make this happen!  ;D

My head very much soothed by the most beautiful double rainbow  ;D on the M25 on the way home, I instantly knew it was from Elsa Dolly and poor Bella who may have been waiting for the opportunity to wave a double farewell, as they both went to the Bridge together. My heart is happy knowing they got there together  :) :)

So, tomorrow it's pen scrubbing day, wash the motorway crud off the cat bus, redistribute the traps and transfer cages amongst our teeny army and start over again. It's good to finish the week on a high, and it's results like this that offset the hard work and occasional unhappy moments. Today we are kings!  :Applause: :grouphug:

This week, the feral pregnant female we brought in last week had two bouncing healthy tuxedo kittens in safety, mum and babies doing well.  :Luv:

One of the most elusive cats we have been trying to trap since last August finally succumbed to the lure of tinned mackerel. Look away now Rosella, this girl is the image of your Grouchie boy and has the temperament to match!

She has a kitten, we firmly believe this to be the sister of Pippa the Pipaqueak famed of this forum and beloved adoptee of our Paula, so here I'm introducing little Kirsty, named for the vet wife of the vet who examined her for free  :wow: she's a healthy 12-14 weeks, one wobbly milk tooth that has had a knock but otherwise she's fine.
Unfortunately she a single kitten so is very timid and needs specialist care to ease her away from her Mum and bring her round to pet quality. Thankfully we have found an amazing sanctuary that can do this and she and her Mum are off there later today.

Finally we have little Mikkie, a friendly stray black girl with oodles of love to give. She came in with two older, fully feral kittens so this little family are off to sanctuary along with Bronwyn and Kirsty today.

Great news, all these cats are FIV negative which indicates the colony is also clear, we can move on to the boys! Wooohoooooooo!

So, I need sandwiches, a flask and some diesel as its a 260 mike round trip to the sanctuary, it's going to be a long day!

Byeeeee  :car:

Thanks all, dashing through as another busy week ahead.

Two females trapped this week, one almost at full term of pregnancy so she's gone into foster care to have her babies in safety, the other in for spay this morning and will be rehomed to her kind feeder.

The paperwork is taking longer than anticipated but we plough on undeterred, CP are getting twitchy about this but we've refused to stop activities just because they have got our signatures!

Three more feral cats coming in this week, all have sanctuary spaces booked and will be off next Saturday after they've been neutered.  Phew!

I've said it before and I'll say it again.  Sheila, you are an absolute treasure and I'm proud to know you.     The cats who come under the auspices of Waltham Forest CP don't know how lucky they are to have such a caring, dedicated, enthusiastic and capable champion.  I wish every success to you and your team.  It won't all be plain sailing and there'll be lots of heartaches along the way but you already know that don't you, so I'm sure you'll go from strength to strength.

Well, finally we got past the most awful January I have ever known, February began with my 50th birthday, a holiday and a well earned rest, Valentine's Day passed without too much incident and because our little rescue was experiencing a quiet period we took time to rest, recover and regroup.

Discussions ensued about our future, what we liked and didn't like about the way our group was being run, and a small group of us stepped up to the ockey. We took the plunge yesterday and signed up as our very own branch of Cats Protection.

So, my friends, it's official. I'm now the Branch Co-ordinator of the charity's newest branch, I have trusty pals Tad and Mark at each elbow and we have the word at our feet. We will have our own finances, so it's now up to us what we do to make best use of the money and people we have.

CP management have been brilliant in helping to extract us from the shadow of Central London branch, we will be retrained, properly this time, to make the best of the wealth of CP resources, we will have branch support, guidance and a friendly regional manager who is delighted to have found a new branch that's almost ready made.

Those of you who already support us, and I'm incredibly grateful to you, rest assured we will squeeze every ounce of value from your hard earned pennies, and once our bank account is established and we have out own web page you will be able to gift aid your donations directly to our branch.

So this week we are reading, learning, preparing our business model and getting our heads around the fact we no longer need to ask permission to do the great work we have been doing. We are negotiating new terms with our vet supporters, our sponsors and our partner rescues so we get our networks in place ready.

And the cats, yes, the cats. We have three enormous colonies in view, two weve already started but the third has yet to be investigated fully but it looks like we have at least four pregnant females and upwards of 30 cats to catch, neuter and return or relocate.

Please continue to watch this thread, I'm so happy. You won't be disappointed.

Thank you for giving me the confidence to push for this.  :thanks:

We quite often find all black cats hereabouts, I'll keep you in mind next time a friendly one comes in MadLilli. xx

The 5 cats were across two different sites and no, we're getting good at trapping now and have our little tricks that make it quite a simple operation (of course having the correct equipment is a massive boon! Thanks to our generous supporters for supplying much of that!)

So, Bib and Bob the two kittens have found a wonderful foster home in Colchester where they will be socialised and rehomed; their Mum Whisky and Dad Bobby have been neutered and returned to their lovely feeder, Cindy, who had been up chasing Tom cats away from Whisky for weeks... poor woman was at the end of her tether and is so grateful for our help.
The stripy kitten Harriett Houdini (she escaped from her crate) has also found a home. Sid and Nancy the two black ferals (and I suspect Minty's parents) were neutered (Nancy was pregnant again, we got to her in time this time) and they've been returned to their feeder Laura.

It's been a wholly satisfying week on the TNR front, this feel-good factor has kept me going through what has otherwise been a sad week.

The dark tabby female Bella whom I caught last week who had been living rough under a car, she was in a hell of a state, the vet checked her she turned out to be an older girl with not pregnant but suspiciously lumpy tummy and heart murmur.
I decided to keep her here to see if she improved. "Bella" came indoors where she could get warm and she quickly cuddled up next to me, but spontaneously lashed out a couple of times, understandable, of course after her ordeal, however this unpredictable behaviour made her a poor candidate for rehoming. She might have been fine once her condition stabilised, though, so we persevered. Sadly she took a turn for the worse last night when her hind legs began collapsing under her. I took her back to the vet this morning, her heart was failing and the prognosis was not good. We decided the kindest result for her was pts.

It's the sad, heartbreaking side of cat rescue, sometimes there's simply no alternative.
I'm sorry we couldn't save you Bella, we did what we could and you knew warmth, good food and love in your last days. RIP little one.  :(

This coupled with the sad loss of my own darling Elsa Dolly this morning  :( has left me longing for the end of January.

Happily with my birthday coming up I'm looking forward to a few days away with hubby to enjoy some time off from the pressures of work and cat rescue.

Back mid Feb with updates - the good work continues with the fab Tad and the team from Waltham Forest Cats.  ;D

Today we trapped 5 cats! Included in this figure are the two loose kittens aged around 8 weeks, two all black  :catluv: females and a teenage tabby. All booked in for vet checks and neutering as appropriate.

I will also proudly announce that today I met and embraced a very good friend whom I've never met before. It's such a special place, Purrs, we seem to have the monopoly on fabulous folk and today just proved it once again. Jackspratt is now a personal friend. Thank you Purrs. Xxx

Loving the updates Sheila, and well done on your sterling efforts for the Avenue colony.

Stru, mpets.  I know all about them.   :evillaugh:  Malt's season is done.  Just hoping Barley doesn't start next, as we've got them booked in for 1st February for their ops.   :innocent:

This week we have neutered two ginger females, Kiki and Mittens and a ginger male Squidget whose owner has health issues. Both females were believed to be pregnant to the male who is their son/brother respectively. Kiki has FAD that we've treated with Advantage, she needed worming and Zantac syrup for her blooded stools. Mittens needed to be wormed and litter trained as at 11 months she had never been taught. We've rehomed Squidget already and the girls are now vet checked as fit, in foster care and are up for adoption on our Waltham Forest Cats Facebook group.

One reported pregnant female dark tabby stray living rough under a car covered with tarpaulin, took me three nights to coax her into the trap, she's gone in the trap tonight. Now named Bella she will be Vet checked first thing tomorrow. She's in my summerhouse crate with an Advantage applied and as much food as she can pack in, she's had three meals so far. Hopeful for her future as she seems friendly, but she has no microchip. She will go to Tad following her vet check to clear my summerhouse pens, spay booked for Tuesday.

Two 5 month old kittens Bonnie and Clyde and their mother the alpha queen of a colony we've been working on since August. Whitney, now neutered and returned, Advocate applied. This concludes work on the Avenue colony. I'm delighted it has been a long frustrating job.

We have designs on a new colony, a pair of teeny kittens and their strumpet of a mother, and goodness knows what else, tomorrow as they say is another day.

Still waiting to see the person who will set up our branch, gone a bit quiet.... I'll poke a stick in it tomorrow.

Oh and I must get to the bank! Have a cheque to cash  ;D ;D
