Tonight we celebrate!  ;D

This week I've rehomed 4 abandoned cats. Tigger, Socks and Garfield all found forever homes, and today I'm delighted to report that Lulu has finally found her forever Meowmi.  :Luv:

The kittens are now 7 weeks old and weigh thusly : Lorna 507, Mario, 658, Lola 705, Robbie 740. Clearly there's still a way to go wth Lorna but they all have found solid food appetising so mum Theresa has been booked in for her spay on 2nd November when the kids will be 8.5 weeks so she can, finally, go home to her mum, brothers and sisters. The kittens won't have their vaccinations until the vet thinks they are ready, Robbia and Lola will probably go together first as they suffered least with the flu. Mario and Lorna will stay behind until their immune systems are able to cope, and as they are both likely to be flu carriers will probably need a very safe and understanding stress free home. I'll be hunting around mid November for homes for these two little miracles.  ;D

Me, on the other hand, I'm in the wars again. I've wrenched a shoulder ligament that may be an aggravated injury from 2001 when I broke a sliver of bone in my rotary cuff area that partially disconnected the muscle in my arm that controls sideways lift. I'm useless, can't lift, drive or even type comfortably so my first week at work was curtailed from Wednesday morning. Doh. Ouch, all that.

Thankfully hubby us being amazing and has helped me get two cats to the vet today and is doing almost all the essential housework. My CP Pals have also stepped up and are helping me to complete vaccination programmes etc. But this has seriously impacted the near future for WFCP activities.

Two cats to vaccinate and handover tomorrow then no more until I've seen the fracture clinic specialist on 29th.

Thank you all my friends for the good wishes, prayers and sympathies this week. It has been dreadful and wonderful in equal measure.  :thanks:

Pulled myself up by the bootstraps, Mario needs me.  :-:

Jarvis will be cremated at the vets who cared for him, they've been amazing.  :thanks: :thanks:

OH, bless his heart, took Mario to the vet this morning for his ocular check, he had some necrotic tissue removed from his eyes yesterday, right eye is looking much better but still concerns for his left. He's had a step forward though, we've been given some weaning biscuits and he is finally eating solids. All positive again.  :)

GI Joe! Back home with his feeder Laura. All cats survived the weekend. :crossed:

How positive is that!  I know how dreadful cat flu is and it's just stunning that some of the young uns look like they may survive it.  You're obviously doing a fabulous job Sheila.  Mario and Jarvis are very much in my thoughts as are you

every day is a positive Sheila, I know when we handreared bluto from a three week old feral with flu the vet said not to name him and just get anything into him you can, we had only melted ice cream and oxtail soup in those days, would have loved complivit!  anyway he lived to 14.5 with only watery eyes in the winter as a side effect - every day you can bring them on is a good sign

Sheila add some Complivit to the kittens milk, a good shake and it all mixes up I had the Boris on it from 7 weeks after he nearly died after we lost Egor, Ivan and Georgia to fading kitten syndrome my best result was 200gms in a week does make the pooh a tad yucky but the do gain weight and that's what you want another thing is cat milk and of course plenty shredded processed chicken my idea becomes when they are that small as with my oldies a calorie is a calorie and if its not normal cat food then so be it

We will keep all paws crossed here and yes Calici can be a worry but we had Chunkchop with it, he came with it - sister Fudge is negative and when we have blood tested any of the others we haven't had a positive back and we never kept Chunkchop separated he was a cats cat and a humans cat

Oh Sheila - that makes my heart turn over -  that little Lorna is an ear suckler too, and I remember well that initial feeling of surprise.  And uncertainty.   :evillaugh:  I grew to love it, as an endearing trait of Ross's, and I hope Lorna gets a chance to show her love too, and become big and strong.

My same hope extends to all the charges in your care.

Very glad Joe found his way to his Laura.  Makes me feel relieved for him.  Cats have a very strong instinct at times as to where they want to be.

Am so sorry for Tad's loss.

Well its all dreamy here... optimism rules ok?

And Carol, your input is more than welcome   ;D I'll have a look at your reference material if and when we get that far, at the moment Plan B is wishful thinking as there's still no guarantees they will live that long. But I thank you, yes indeed, I need all the help I can get so don't anyone be shy in posting on here what good ideas and experiences I can learn from.  :thanks: :thanks: :thanks:

Sue, it's making me weep for you but Little Lorna has proven to be an ear sucker.  :innocent:
She's only 380g at 6 weeks so is severely stunted by the flu, but she's sooooooo clingy now and she huffpuffs in my earhole with the occasional nip to wake me up.  :)
Not had this ever before, it's just erghh and awwwhhh at the same time, the hairs on my neck and arms are up, its the most beguiling and disturbing feeling. I love it and want it to stop at the same time.  :shy: ;D

Great news first.. Lorna finally got her first go at weaning and seems to have got it, by Golly I think she's turned the corner.  ;D Then Lola joined in  ;D then Robbie decided he would show them up  ;D so that's three on the road to rehoming.   :)

Not so great news, poor Mario's eyes are not improving, despite his antibiotic and eye ointment his eyes look dreadful and he is refusing solids, so at 6 weeks he's starving for formula/milk and is a real worry that his sight may not recover.  :(

Little Jarvis is also not thriving, he did take 0.5 mls of formula from the bottle earlier (the first time he's accepted it!) alongside some trickled in from the syringe and Theresa has allowed him one feed today but he still seems to be shrinking  :scared:
He's two weeks old today and to me looks no different to when he came in except for his huge bug eyes. Vet weighed  him this week and gave me the "don't blame yourself" talk.  :-: I shall not be defeated.

I went on a training course today to learn how to use the CP tracker and website. I'm hopeful that this will help me move our cats on much more effectively by giving needy cats much needed exposure. Its right up my street :shy:

Tomorrow we have two longstanding abandonment cases being re-homed!  :wow: I'm utterly delighted and if anyone wants to check out Central London page its Garfield and Tiiger who have found their forever furents. Socks will be left on his own.  :scared: but Laura, their Godsmother, will take care of him.

http://www.cats.org.uk/london/adopt-a-cat/?cid=125857

Best of the best? GI Joe has found his way home to his Laura, the lovely feeder 2 miles away from me, Godsmother to Tigger, Kitty, Socks and Garfield.
I've no idea how he did it but here he is, on Laura's doorstep, waiting on his chikkun.  :Luv: :phew:

On a terribly sad note, my oppo, Tad, sadly lost her Dad yesterday.  :'(  She puts so much in and takes nothing out, a darling woman who gives everything with no strings. I'll do what I can.  RIP Tad's Dad.  :'(

hope you are all ok Sheila - I know where I used to volunteer they were very careful about cross contamination so if it is calici carol might have a valid point, Oscar and algie where calici carriers and were kept in an isolation unit well away from the main cattery and we were only allowed to see them once we had finished in the main cattery  - don't be too hard on yourself hun, you are trying to help them

Lorna is so sweet  ;D

Carol is so right about stress being an activator of flu and have seen it first hand at a rescue here. One poor kitten had been in isolation because he had flu, He got better and then was dumped in with all the other cats and it came back but theu nhad no clue about cats and hadnt even noticed.

Their prime knowledge was dogs and cats were just their as an extra!

Sheila you're doing a brilliant job under very difficult circumstances  and we have fingers and paws firmly crossed here that all will be well.   Cat Rescue needs dedicated and capable people like you, and while the work can be very rewarding it is also emotionally and physically draining, as your baptism of fire has no doubt shown you, so do try to allow yourself some 'me' time so you don't suffer burnout as many do.

The plan, therefore is thus... this 3 week relief should, just, see us clear of the infection .................. ...........Theresa and wee Jarvis stay here until he's weaned at which time Theresa can be spayed and go to her forever home. Jarvis can be further socialised with Whiskey's babies and paired off with them for re-homing.

Isn’t Jarvis thought to be the source of your flu outbreak?  I wouldn’t be happy introducing him to Whiskey’s kittens as he could potentially be infectious and young kittens, as you know, are very susceptible.  All cats who have had the herpes virus (which your outbreak sounds like) and many who have had calici carry the virus in latent form and it can be reactivated from time to time, notably in times of stress. Leaving his ‘mum’ and being thrust among other kittens could just be a sufficient stressor.

I’m sure you’re far too busy to be doing a lot of reading but if you want any references let me know and I can supply them.
