Home for a cat in Birmingham

Of course I understand everything you say and would feel exactly the same myself, but you can't blame me for trying every thing in my power to find a home for this old boy, even if it means a little casual emotional blackmail

He looks a little like Polly when she was in her later years. Luckily, she lived to be 22, but I'm sure that's not common. I'm just concerned about losing JayJay within a couple of years 
It might be best to adopt more locally incase the newbie has serious problems with being accepted or accepting my resident pusscats. A local rescue would take the cat back should this occur. I would also like to meet any cat before adoption.

I hope you manage to find a good home for him, one that hasn't suffered as many feline losses as I have recently.

Seriously no pressure though. He's cuddly and fun (and yes, he needs a claw clip for when he gets too much catnip based fun though! Manners not quite perfect yet! ) but his older years may put you off.

Yay!!!    Good luck with the arm twisting Hippykitty - wish I lived near you, as I'd have taken you.   

I think JayJay is in great need, but agree that it may be better for you to have a younger cat so that hopefully (the Gods be willing) you can have many years of cuddling ahead of you.

I rang Wythall, left a message on their machine, and was phoned back today. They said I was welcome to go to the sanctuary any day apart from tuesday, so I've started arm-twisting. Unfortunately, the cat-loving friend I have who has a car is nervous about driving after having had an accident a couple of months ago. But I think she'd enjoy going to see lots of puddies.

As to JayJay:  please! Though I'm unsure about such an elderly cat who I would be grieving for before long.

I was taken to a house last night where the owner had died last year and his family have cleared out the house but left his poor cat JayJay behind!

JayJay was named after the old boys grandchildren whose names both began with J, and it's the parents of these kids who have abandoned the poor cat. 

JayJay is a beautiful older boy, around 16 to 18 years and Very cuddly, I sat on the lawn for 30 minutes with him just loving up on my lap, and me a complete stranger! He has been fed by Elaine, the old mams neighbour, for the last year but she is moving soon and doesn't want JayJay to be left alone again.

He is described as very hungry and losing weight, if he were my cat I'd be getting him tested for HyperThyroidism, an easily managed condition, but one that will lead to his ultimate demise if left unchecked. I'm very drawn to this little guy myself but he lives less than 100 yards from me, so even if I adopt him as a feeder, he would stillbe yelling to get in at Elaine's each day.

JayJay is white and black with gorgeous eyeliner, very attractive markings and gets on well with Elaine's female cat, as he's an older boy he will need a home with calmer occupants.

If anyone can offer a home for JayJay in his final years, I will undertake to deliver him to you, and happen to have a north south run coming up next weekend 12th July.

I'm going round to see Elaine with my camera later, so will take some pics of JayJay and post them on Purrs.

Thanks so much Sue for the lovely post and the suggestions.

Wythall isn't too far from me if I can persuade a friend with a car to take me there. Although Yoda is so cute, I'd be more interested in his mum as she might have a harder time finding a home. I like the fact that they've never been street cats but have come from a loving home in unfortunate circumstances, so will be fully socialised.

It would be tempting to take them both, but I think that might upset Cyd, Lucy and Vic too much.

I'll give them a call later, then have to twist an arm or two for a lift over there. I so miss having a cuddly cat. Polly and Samantha were the last affectionate pusscats I had, but old age took them over the bridge. Despite years of patience and trying, I've never won the trust of my ex-ferals.

One other suggestion - though again, not sure how practical this would be for you, is that Drifters reach (part of Westgate Ark) here in Newcastle have a number of cats and kittens up for re-homing - they are willing to let them be re-homed further afield subject to their discretion.  They have a number of cats and kittens, some of whom are described as being very affectonate. 

Appreciate though that it's quite a trek for you and the potential cats to have to make in either direction.

Hippykitty, I hope that you get just the right one (or two  ) very soon.  There is no way you're careless with your cats - your whole house move came about as a result of wanting to do right by them - it's unfortunate, but you simply suffered a very bad run.  Notwithstanding, Fred is alive and well, and has simply exercised his rights as a cat to choose his domain, and if George has too, then it would be good to know (albeit rotten for you, considering how  very much you cared for them).

I hope the next one (or two  ) that you get will be real cuddle-bums, who will lavish snoozles on you and let you know just how fabulous you are as a kitty Mum.

I have a vacancy (maybe two) for a cat who gets on well with other cats. I'd prefer a cuddly domestic because none of my other cats will let me hug them (ex-ferals). I'm good with nervous or shy cats, and my absolute fave cat colour is black and white, though they're all beautiful.

I can give understanding, time, lots of grub, watchfulness over their health, but I hate housework! I aim to get the garden cat-proofed soon.

I have three other cats living with me (Cyd, Lucy, Victoria) another who's reverted to being feral (Fred), and two lost (George and Pebbles; I suspect that George has been taken in by some well-meaning person and Pebbles is dead). I'm not usually this careless with cats! Very upset about them all.

If any rescue on here near me has a cat who may be suitable, let me know. I'm sure the local rescues, of which there are very few, would turn me down considering my recent misfortunes with cats.
