The other possibility is that he was getting extra food elsewhere and that source has now gone. Old ladies love feeding "strays". George used to go 2 doors up every sunday and have roast chicken with the germans, followed by a nap and a game with the grand daughter!

thanks for the reassurance - he certainly is more active now than during the winter months, but i just couldn't remember him being this way last year, so found it a little strange.

i did wonder about the dosage of drontal, as the XL is for cats up to 6kg and he's nowhere near that.

have yet to place the order so i think i'll take your advice and go with the normal pill and just give him it every month.

3x85g (255g)  isnt alot more than 2 pouches, it sounds like he has upped his eating as hes more active after winter. If he was really hungry he would eat some dry food! Hes trying his luck for something more tasty! 

For a cat 4.3kg i would give a normal drontal,especially as your planning to go on a monthly routine, that should be ample for him. He doesnt sound like a cat with a heavy worm burden

How much dry food does he eat in addition to the 3 pouches of 85g wet food?  If not much, I wouldn't be too worried altho I suppose any really noticeable change in behaviour esp eating and throwing up should mean a vet visit. If he is eating a fair whack of dry food too though and not putting on weight, I'd be off to the vet for a chat.

Our 5 year old white and tabby Freddie is about 4.6kg (altho came to us at 3.9kg). I have always had heavier cats before and it took some time before I realised that he is not underweight at all just active. I have no doubt he would be hunting like a trouper if he had enough teeth to do any damage!

I ended up buying some drontal tabs online but they are pretty big and I now wish I had gone for the worming treatment that you apply in drops on back of neck.

Also frontline flea treatment is the biz! Don't forget the Acclaim household spray. Don't be tempted to do half a job, ain't worth it.

yep cheese is a good way of making them take there tablet too

i know what u mean about wasting the tablet

one of my cats made me waste 3 in one night  :rofl:thats when i gave up and got my vet to prescribe profender for the little minx

i read on here that cheese is a good way to entice them aswell, so i gave him a bit last time we had some and he seemed to like it.  i think a tiny bit once a month won't do any harm.  just don't want to be wasting talets at 2 quid a pop.

as a last resort i'll try profender.

my vet told me the averege weight was around 4kg but all cats are different it depends if he is a small framed cat or a larger framed cat,
have u tried putting his tablet in a piece of chicken or ham?
if giving ur cat a tablet is a real battle there is a spot on wormer call profender but its a pom
so only availble from ur vet but of course ur vet will give u a prescription for it after its been prescirbed once and u will be able to buy it online much cheaper .

went onto the site and it seems as though i'll need the XL wroming tablet as Geoffrey weighs in at around 4.3kg.  Is that normal for a 4 year old male? Is there such a thing as a normal weight for a particular breed of cat, or is every one unique?

i really don't know if it was drontal or not, but i'll be buying some anyway, along with a little stock of frontline.

now i just need to get the bottle to give him the tablets - i'll go watch those videos and see if i can get any tips.

was it drontal worming tablet ?
if not thats the one id recomend u use .
if u go to http://www.vetuk.co.uk u can buy them for a bit cheaper than what they are on sale for at the vets , i think its about £1.60 a tablet and they will deliver it to u free of charge within 48hrs 
have a chat with ur vet when u take geoffrey for a check up and explain he is a hunter and the vet will proberly suggest worming him once a month

Hi Lisa, thanks for the reply.  We currently only worm him every three months as per the vets advice.  I'm not sure what the pill is called as i always take him to the vet to have it done as i just torture the little beggar trying to get his down his throat.  Plus it means he gets a little check up every three months just to make sure everything is okay and the vet can spot anything that i miss - as you say its peace of mind.

Looks like i will have to be ordering some worming pills through the site then.

cats who go out and hunt should be wormed every month ,
do u worm him every month ?
what worming pill did u use ?
id make an appointment with your vet to get him checked over if i was u ,if nothing else it will put your mind at rest

Geoffrey, our 4 year old tabby and white, has recently started to want eat alot more than usual.  We used to feed him 2 x 100g of wet food and leave the dry food in a bowl for him to pick at in between his wet meals.  He used to have a bit but was never keen. 

Recently though he has started meowing ALOT and we wondered whether he was hungry, so we fed him, and ever since he has been eating 3 x 85g wet food pouches per day.  Is this normal behaviour? I can't say that he's gaining any weight either.  He doesn't touch the dry food now.

I can feed him at 5pm and then three hours later he's meowing like anything and sat by his bowl waiting for some grub.

He's frontlined monthly and only had his worming pill at the beginning of April.

He goes out whenever he wants and he's a real hunter, we had 4 birds in the space of four nights last week, and this afternoon we saw him 'playing' with another.  Could the birds he's killing be giving him a parasite?  He doesn't really eat the birds, just bats them to death i think.

I have noticed a few times that he has thrown up aswell, although his sick did not contain anything too suspect.

Can anyone suggest why he needs feeding so much, and why he constantly seems hungry? Someone once told me that cats will eat until they are full, but it seems like if i kept feeding him, he would still eat.

Is there anything to worry about, should i get him checked out or is this fairly normal behaviour?
