I've already signed the petition but I might go on the march (15 March in London). I hate all hunting - canned or otherwise.

Global March for Lions 15th March & petition against canned hunting

Hi,

Hope I’m posting this in the right place.

I thought Purrs would be a good place to raise awareness about the ‘Global March for Lions' which is taking place in various cities worldwide on 15th March.

UK marches will take place in London, Birmingham and Edinburgh and the campaign and march info is on twitter and facebook.

The campaign is aimed at raising awareness of Canned Hunting of Lions in South Africa.

‘Canned Hunting’ - also known as trophy hunting - is legal in South Africa and involves tourists paying huge amounts of money to go on an organised hunt and kill a lion (which is often drugged) in an enclosure.

The lions are bred in captivity, taken away from their mothers at a very young age and hand reared to ensure they are used to being around humans.
Many Lion ‘farms’ in SA offer the chance for tourists to play with and pet the cubs – for a fee of course. Tourists normally have no idea that they are paying to pet lions that will then be sold to hunting ranches and killed by tourists as soon as they reach adulthood.

Link to the website for the Global Marches is here:

Further information on the campaign against canned hunting can be found here:

http://www.cannedlion.org/

The more people who can attend the marches, the better. But there’s also a petition against Canned Hunting of Lions here:

Thanks for reading,
