Am so sorry Geoffrey's not back to his properly normal self, and will be thinking about you at the vet visit.

Back to the vets again this evening, he still isn't right.  He vomited a few times on Monday, not at all yesterday and then once this morning, and his eyes still look a bit glazed.   He's kind of ok in himself but not quite the greedy constant-bugging-for-food pest that I'm used to.  I'm not sure if this is what I should be expecting or not if it is 'just' a particularly nasty kidney infection.  Could the antibiotics be causing the vomiting and actually he is getting better underneath?

I'm going to try and get another wee sample before we go tonight (don't fancy my chances though!)  Can anyone suggest anything else they think I should be asking for right now?  I'm just worried about my poor little man  :'(

I hope Geoffrey will be OK again soon

Napoleon lived with one working kidney for at least 3 years maybe longer, I dont know cos it was only discovered when he was ill with something else and it was pea sized.

Here's hoping the antibiotics do the trick and Geoffrey is back to 100% soon.

It's so worrying when the furballs aren't their normal self.

Aw bless Geoffrey.  Must be very worrying for you FB, but hoping the AB's do the trick, and he'll be back to normal very soon.  Sending him lots of snoozles and shaved bits dont matter - all the footballers sport them, and what's good enough for Riley is good enough for all of us.  ;)

Poor Geoffrey :care: Lets hope that the antibiotics help things and that it is 'just' an infection

Riley says Geoffrey is most welcome to join his furless gang, it's all the rage nowadays don't you know

Well Geoffrey is home from his scan.  There is something up with his right kidney, it looks very thickened and the middle bit looks very small and uneven.  There aren't any obvious lumps or cysts, but something is clearly not right.  Left one looks fine and bladder looks fine.  My vet is on holiday for a fortnight now so we have 3 weeks worth of antibiotics and hope that it is 'just' a particularly nasty kidney infection, I will do another urine sample in a couple of weeks when she is back, unless of course I am concerned in the meantime.  If this doesn't make any difference then he will probably need a biopsy, so please everyone cross fingers that the longer course of antibiotics work well!

Poor Geoffrey has shaved sides too.  She said they can normally just do it from a shaved belly but because he has...additional padding...they weren't getting a good enough view.

He's glad to be home for now!

Geoffrey is lucky to have a slave who knows him well enough to understand when something is not quite right. That will stand him in good stead as any treatment needed can be got underway sooner.

Soooo the results are in, and there is blood and protein in his urine.  She did say that it doesn't look like renal insufficiency (something about the concentration being right?) and there weren't any crystals so that's good news, but he's going in on Friday to have an ultrasound of his kidneys and bladder to see if they can get to the bottom of what is going on and where.  At least he is ok within himself, but I'm still worried...he just has that slight look on his face which tells me that all is not quite right.

Surprisingly quiet...lots of nice cuddles  :Luv:  even better, I have a wee sample! I was just about to give up so I tipped all the plastic balls out of the litter tray and I was just getting ready to put it back in its normal place and refill it while I'm at work, and he wandered into the empty tray and duly produced a sample.  So at least I have a nice fresh one to give to the vet first thing.

Been back to the vets today, Geoffrey still isn't quite right somehow.  D&V have stopped and he is eating and drinking normally, but he's just got that slight look in his eye that tells me that he's still not 100%.  So now he's locked in the bedroom with me in an attempt to extract a urine sample overnight.  I had him in my home office with me and a litter tray all day today and he wouldn't oblige before we went to the vets, so instead he's no doubt going to keep me awake all night scrabbling at the door  :evillaugh: wish us luck, I dread to think how many days this is going to take, as I need to leave for work before 8, and I bet he'll go at about 8.10...

Good today, thank you  :wow:  got home from work and the collar is still on so there obviously haven't been any massively vomity incidents (haven't found any presents yet  :shify:) and he's busy hoovering up every crumb of food he can find, which is very much normal behaviour.  Now sitting on my lap getting in the way while I'm trying to do some work.

If this continues I suspect the 'right' course of action would be to do another blood test once the convenia is through his system, and hopefully it will show his kidney levels back to normal...

Well that took longer than anticipated, my appointment was 9.15 and I've only just got home

This morning Geoffrey was sick again and there was more diarrhoea in the litter tray although he is behaving normally and asked for his breakfast as normal.  When my vet had a good prod about she thought that his kidneys felt exceptionally tender so I left him there for an hour or so while she ran some bloods (went and did my grocery shopping!)  Bloods came back mostly normal with the exception of creatinine which was high and white blood count was low end of normal - but we looked at his previous pre-op bloods and both the last two sets have also had low WBC so that might just be normal for him.  Kidney definitely isn't though.  So she has given him a convenia injection to cover for a kidney infection and I have to try and get a wee sample for Monday.  She said if he isn't 100% back to normal by 2-3 days then she wants to take him in and scan his kidneys.  My poor little man - fingers crossed the convenia does the trick!

Thanks - I think he must have just picked up a particularly nasty tummy bug as it seems to have settled down at both ends now and he is about 95% back to normal.  Maybe still just a little pickier than normal over his food but appetite is back including stealing Milly's food and trying to eat my pudding earlier!  Have an appt at 9.15 tomorrow to get him checked over, hopefully his temperature will be back to normal and his tummy all feeling normal too.

well, am very relieved to hear that, but know how worried you must be feeling as to what's causing these episodes.

Hoping the vet may be able to shed more light on what's going on.  meantime, topping up the snoozles for Geoffrey.  :cat rub: :cat rub:
