Update on Winston.
He had bloods done and his BP checked . BP normal , bloods showing he has kidney failure quite advanced . He has been on Fortekur for about 8 years for his heart murmur.
Today he had a scan as the vet thought he had fluid in his tummy and was talking about him possibly having cancer .
Turns out I was more right , he is too fat and that's why his sides stick out ! So ,better fat than cancer , but will try and cut his food down a bit  :innocent:
His scan didn't show that much , so he also x rayed him. This shows his heart problem has got worse and his heart is enlarged .
He also has arthritis quite bad in his front legs , so metacam for that .
He checked his eyes well too and said he can possibly see shadows ,so not gone completely yet .
He is now also on heart tablets !
That's , water tablets, heart tablets , BP tablets , Fortekur and metacam !
He has his own weekly pill box for all his tablets put in what he has every day !
Really need one for my own as forget half mine as Need to make sure Winston gets all his now every day.
He is back on Tuesday for a check up .
Maybe I should take him to spec savers too and get him a white crutch to lean on ! Poor old boy  :'(
Also realized Cody and Smudgie are due for vaccination boosters .
So that will,be three to take Tuesday !

I'm so sorry this situation is making you ill, Gill.

Poor Winston has been pulled about a lot for an old boy and it's to his credit he's still eating well and keeping himself busy. Wait until the bloods come back then you'll be in a better position to think through your next steps. Worrying yourself sick over words like cancer does nobody any good, but it does pay to be on guard for news from left field.
Winston is not a young man so some deterioration must be expected at his age, staying positive is good for you and for Winston, now isn't the time to panic, okay?

The vet hasn't rang me with his blood test results yet ! Not sure if that's good or bad. :scared:
He did his blood pressure which was normal, checked his legs which aren't good at the back and then did a blood test .
He also reckoned he had fluid in his tummy as his sides seem to stick out  :scared: he said it could be a sign of cancer !
His sides have always stuck out though , he eats more than I do , so not sure what to think.

I was actually ill this morning ! Not slept all night, up early and got myself in such a state I felt physically and mentally ill and was almost sick on the way there and whilst waiting .  Still feel iffy .

I said that to her on the phone last night Helen.  If his eyesight goes completely he will be ok - other senses will work overtime too.  He knows where his luxurious bed is, his spot in the garden and his M&S prawns in the freezer  ;)

How did you get on at the vet today Gill?

Hope the tests went OK today, in a safe and loving home being blind isn't the end of the world - there's still smells, sound and of course the touch of his Mum to reassure him

Thanks .
Just got back and he is completely blind  :'(
He is back for blood tests and a full check up Friday morning ,I can stay and wait and then bring him home.
He is on a quarter of a tablet for his blood pressure and it was normal last time a few weeks ago .
He is also on Fortekur ,so hoping his kidneys are ok.
There is nothing wrong with his appetite though !

Amber was on the same medication as yours for the same condition her eyesight went just before we put her to sleep last january at 16 years, she had a fit and seizure

So sorry to hear this Gill, but as has been said, blind cats can do very well, a long as their environment remains stable for them.   Will keep everything crossed for Friday's visit.

Cats do very well without sight as long as you dont keep moving things, Kocka used to go outside and always remember my london vet saying hid could negotiate the fish pond!

also remember not to creep up on him and make a bit of noise or talk to him so he knows where you are

Awww, poor chap! But cats don't go through the process that we do when we lose one of our senses (or part of our function). He won't suffer the grief that we would and will adapt quite quickly.

They adapt to blindness our Bertie did and that involved moving house at 20 and mastering stairs and a whole new house which he did with gusto and our lounge and diningroom and our bedroom were a mirror of our old house furniture in the same way etc and he had 11 glorious months before he succumbed to old age at 21 he went blind at 17

So sorry to hear this Gill I know our Bertie went blind at 20 with high blood pressure can also be caused by Hyperthyroid which also like diabetes causes them to drink a lot maybe worth a blood panel just to check, my diabetic is 16 and has great eyesight

Hope the vet can get to the bottom of it

Over this last week his eyesight has deteriated  quite badly .
I am off to the vets tomorrow but reluctantly as I am worried about disorientating him even more by putting him in the basket and car .
I don't think its diabetes but not sure .
He is on blood pressure tablets and Fortekur , but has been drinking a bit more than usual .
He is also arthritic and have been giving him stride plus for a while now but not seen much benefit , on his second tin now .
I am worried sick as he is over 15 and a half now.
His appetitive is good though and he can still get outside to sit for a while in the sunshine ,so not too bad in himself .
