I bought a clicker when the boys were babies with the intention of training them but it didn't come to anything, probably because I didn't do it for long enough but they are trained to a certain degree eg even though they obviusly don't speak English when I say 'come on then boys' they will run from wherever they are to the kitchen as that's the signal for breakfast/dinner - clicker training is just replacing the voice with a click sound and rewarding their actions.

Xander will fetch rolled up paper and bring it back to me.

Riley plays fetch too, with straws/mice/bozita carton strips - anything really. Little does he know that I'm actually trying to get him to go away by throwing it, he dutifully keeps bringing it back  :evillaugh:

Yes, I need to get one of those clickers. The guy said first of all he was using the clicker just at the end when he gave them a treat but he found it better to click on every jump.

The black and white one surprised me he/she had quite short legs as well.

It's interesting that cats are really considered untrainable but recently that seems to be being proven wrong. Although I wonder if the invention of dreamies has something to do with it.
We had treat balls for our dogs when I lived with my parents but would never have though of getting one for the cat. Xander will fetch rolled up paper and bring it back to me.

:omg: That was amazing  :wow: Especially knowing how hard cats are to train in general makes it even more impressive

Both cats were fab but I was impressed how agile the black and white cat was considering he/she was a bit *ahem* chunky  :evillaugh:

You can tell from the video that they are clicker trained as you can hear the clicks http://www.fabcats.org/behaviour/training/training_for_happier_life.html

Why do you hate it? Do you think they'd do it if they didn't want to?

My cats both love dreamies, Xander will use the treat ball he'll bat it around to get treats but Buffy no way is she going to humiliate herself working to get treats.

I think it could be a good way to exercise indoor cats.

Wow that is really cool. Wonder if I could get my cats to do that? It must take quite a bit of work.
