I went traveling earlier this year and came accross a few places that had feral cats looked after by the local community.
In buenos aires the famous cemetery where Evita is buried has a colony of cats that is fed by the staff. They are very grubby and probably a bit flea ridden though!
In George town. Penang there were cats fed on the streets and in most of SE Asia.
It's nice to see but I'm sure living on their wits isn't always much fun :-/
