This site might help with postage costs for larger items:  http://www.parcel2go.com/

I have also used www.interparcel.com and www.parcelmonkey.co.uk in the past  ;D

I bid £5 for the gorgeous Willow! :blow kiss: She looks bouffed to perfection there  :Luv2:

To work out how much stuff costs to post have a look at this chart -  if it's from 0.5cm up to 2.5cm (approx as thick as a DVD wrapped in a jiffy bag) it's a large letter, if it's thicker than 2.5cm it's a packet...

I've worked out my auction stuff already and am knocking a bit off the postage that the bidder pays (auctioneers kindly pay to post the stuff they have donated out of their own pocket and then the bidder pays postage too which is an extra bonus to the amount raised) to try and encourage bidding - as an example who wants to pay £2.70 postage for some ping pong balls (very light, comes in the 0g-750g bracket, but thicker than a DVD so would cost £2.70 to post). By reducing the postage 'paid' by the bidder it will hopefully encourage more bids  :naughty: :)

As for a start price, again this is just my personal opinion, but if something is likely to get lots of bids then starting it off at 1p or 99p won't hurt but if something is a bit more specialist eg a microchip cat flap (I believe we have one donated by SureFlap again this year), that might only get one or two people bidding on it so best to start the price off at a realistic level so it doesn't end up going for 99p!

Willow is gorgeous are you sure she is not in the auction  :innocent:

Starting bids dont have to exist and usually dont on small value items, for more expensive things its really up to you, £1, 5 etc You just need to be sure the starting isnt too high and putting off peeps from bidding.

Been snapping away (rather inexpertly) on my new phone trying to get pics for my auctions but they are all way oversize so i'm using imageshack to try and link them... this is a test of a non auction related pic of Willow

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

Guess I'll have to package up my items and hit the post office to find out postal costs of the bulkier ones but how do you decide on starting bids? I had a wee shopping trip at lunch time to a place that sells some really cool cat fridge magnets which I'm hoping you guys will love :)

Edit - Yay the pic worked :)

Oh yes, less is most definitely more with a Purrs style auction :naughty:

I'm on my phone at the mo but will try and track down an example thread when I'm on a proper computer!

Very good point Gill about keeping the bids going in small increments.   The best part of the auction is the :duel:

Oh yes and make sure you give Zara the credit when you post the items for bidding  ;D ;D

The auction is great fun and certainly the fighting talk.........Like 1p from me..............got you LOL

For newbies I should just mention maybe  :shify: that cos the auction lasts two weeks items need to be drifted on over the two weeks so we nave new things every day and 1p bids are often the way to go until the last few days cos we like the fun to continue until the last mad day, epsecially the last mad hour.

You know a bit like ebay except much crazier cos I think we had about 200 items last year and they all finish at exactly the same time and like ebay, the Purrs clock will be the decider as to who gets the winning bid in time by the last second, one second too late and you lost it mayte

Maybe Helen can dig out a good link to one of the really funny fighting threads from last year?
